Would you trade Lopez for Cousins?
I wanted Nets to draft Cousins over Favors. I also think he will be a better pro than Brook Lopez...I think he's better already even in his first year.
We don't have the luxury to wait for the draft to save us since we've traded them for Deron. So we need to acquire good young players with experience.... I'd look at DeAndre Jordan, Wilson Chandler, JR Smith, Jamal Crawford, Kirolenko
What do you guys think of this lineup?
PG DWill/Farmar
SG JR Smith/Murrow
SF Chandler/Outlaw
PF Cousins/Humphries
C Jordan/Petro

Kirilenko isn't young, nor very good anymore.
In order to sign DeAndre Jordan away from the Clippers, it'll cost too much and leave us unable to have max space in 2012.

Nobody in their right mind would do Lopez for Cousins. Is Lopez having a down year? Yes. Is Cousins proving to be a bigger head case then most thought entering the draft? Yes.
If you want to trade Lopez here are 2 things to consider. 1) you're selling at an all time low which is never a winning strategy. and 2) you better be getting back a player who is a top 20 player without any doubts. You want to talk about deals around Love, Granger, or Curry? I'd definitely listen.

This is insulting.
The Kings could throw in their other so-called prospects / chuckers like Marcus Thornton and Donte Greene and the answer still wouldn't change.
Hell no.

I got some mixed reaction also when I proposed this on the Kings' board. Will see in a few years who turns out to be right. But if I'm the Nets I'm moving Lopez.
I agree with trying to get a Granger, I think that's possible.
People are having too much patience with Lopez. By the time this over-patience runs out Deron will be with the Knicks.

Re: Would you trade Lopez for Cousins?
RealGM is home to a lot of ''what have you done for me lately'' type \\ posters. So it isn't surprising to see people rag on Lopez because of a down year.. despite him being 22 years old and having a PER of 18.9 in his three year career.
I would NOT trade Lopez for Cousins. Aside from the offcourt issues, He just isn't as good as Lopez is, nor will he ever be. For one he's one of the most inefficient scorers in the league. TS% of 480 is absolutely horrendous and even more so for a big man. Despite having similar usage rate he isn't even close to Lopez's production IN A DOWN YEAR. He even averages more turnovers despite playing 8 minutes less.. This is a no brainer.

Re: Would you trade Lopez for Cousins?
No, absolutely not for Cousins.
I have changed my tune on Love though.
Although I still think he's a stat stuffer extraordinaire, he's also a damn good player and if you could put him next to Nene, or even better, Dwight, I think that has a lot of potential as a lineup.

Re: Would you trade Lopez for Cousins?
He's a 20 year-old rookie. Let's not pretend this isn't even close. It is. Brook Lopez is unquestionably the better player right now and he was unquestionably the better player in his rookie season. But stats don't tell the whole story. Cousins needs to mature and improve his shot selection, but he has the combination of a huge frame, great touch, and MOBILITY that Brook simply does not have. He has attitude problems, yes, but he also plays with attitude, something you will never be able to say about Brook Lopez.
I've seen nearly every game Brook has played in the NBA, and however you want to explain it away (and I think there are some valid excuses for at the very least his truly abysmal rebounding this year), he hasn't shown the capacity to improve one iota either defensively or on the boards. Even before this year, his TRB% dropped significantly. Defensively, he still looks like a rookie, unsure and hesitant on his rotations and flat out blowing assignments multiple times per game. Brook has some very rare skills, and as I've said before, if he could improve to even mediocrity in a few areas he'd be a tremendously valuable piece. But I'm unsure enough that that will ever happen that if I could get a good young player and dump Outlaw's contract for him, I'd do it.

Re: Would you trade Lopez for Cousins?
Demarcus Cousins is a terrible defensive player himself so if you're gonna knock Brook in that aspect you better criticize Cousins as well.

Re: Would you trade Lopez for Cousins?
Minnesota wouldn't even pick the phone for Brook for Love at this point, I'm afraid. Clearly he isn't as good as his stats indicate, but his value dwarfs Brook's right now.
I know Cousins struggles defensively as well. But he's a rookie, he plays with fire and aggression, and I'd do the deal hoping for improvement. To be clear, I don't think the Nets are anywhere close to robbing the Kings in a Brook/Outlaw for Cousins/expirings deal. It's an immediate downgrade in the hopes of a future upgrade, which is always a risky way to operate. But Cousins does have more potential IMO, and the Kings aren't robbing the Nets either.

Cousins for Lopez?
You seriously fail at life if you think it's worth trading for him.
I took like a 6 month vacation from RealGM because of guys like you. I'm convinced your a Knicks fan just trying to fly under the radar claiming to be a Nets fan. Knicks fans are the quickest fans in the world to turn on their players. This season is a wash now and this discussion should be tabled until next season. Every GM in the league would still offer a crap ton for Brook. Fans aren't as willing because, for the most part, we're psycho. But ask any GM and they'd be like "wow you Only got Cousins for Lopez? Crap if we offered Lopez/Harris for Deron, we'd probably have either Milsap or Jefferson and a pick coming our way too.
Lopez still has a ton of value to GM's. Chill out and let the kid develop.

Re: Would you trade Lopez for Cousins?
Hell NO!!! That would be a terrible idea.
Look after the new CBA things will begin to be clear, like how much a max contract will be, and how much the new cap will be at and so forth. I really don't think things are going to be drastically different from what they are now like franchise tags or anything like that.
This offseason once everything is figured out we need to make sure come 2012 we have enough money to sign a max contract (you know who). Hopefully we will still have enough money out there to make a signing this year for Wilson Chandler (my #1 target) I think he liked the NY area and would be interested in returning even if it's for the Nets. We should also look into maybe a Mayo trade this offseason maybe we just absorb him and they get a TPE/2013 1st. or something IDK. The last order of business is to trade Petro/Outlaw. If we can accomplish all those this by 2012 we would be in great shape.
Should we have to trade Lopez it's gonna be for an established player that will come in and fit with D-Will/Dwight should we get that lucky.

Eh I still wouldn't consider Lopez for Love to be honest. For all the crap Brook gets about his defense Love is one of the few players in the league single-handedly capable of making his own team a bottom tier defensive squad.
Love's aversion to playing help defense or to make proper defensive switches is downright disgusting.

I mean honestly, there's a lot of truth to this statement, but at least Love provides sensational rebounding, a more polished and well rounded offensive game in comparison and he can pass much better.
They're both poor to mediocre defenders, at least Brook can block a lot of shots on helpside and plays solid D in the post, but Love can grab the ree and throw sick outlets.
