Good luck Nets/Williams
Hey guys as a Jazz fan, this has been a very difficult season, we had high hopes, starting 15-5 and the rest is history. We're actually the first team to not the make the playoffs after a 15-5 start. We were making historic comebacks on the road, had a great road record, beat all the elite teams, and all with out Okur. We thought we were legit contenders, then all hell begins to break lose. Williams got his wrist injury, Okur missed the whole damn season (the few games he played he struggled), Kirilenko has missed games, Millsap got injured after a STRONG start, and it just goes on and on. Ofcourse then the three franchise altering moves out of nowhere! Sloan AND his assistant Phil Johnson (COY in 1974-75) quit in the middle of the season, which I can't blame them with the Jazz doing so many moves to not pay luxury tax including not matching Wesley Mathews this summer. Then ofcourse Deron Williams gets traded, my friend told me, I was like WHAT!?
Well you guys get the gist of it. Anyways we're very proud to have Favors and eager to see who we can get the next two drafts (four first round picks). Harris looked good early on, not so much lately and was injured, we'll see if he's our PG for the future, but we've been spoiled with PG play in Utah and for the Jazz system I feel we need an elite PG for it to function most efficiently.
I was watching a few games for the Nets this season, obviously hoping they can lose, but Deron being Deron, he has continued strong play despite wrist injury. Next season I will sure catch a lot more Nets games and will be rooting for the Nets and Williams. I know you guys have had a tough stretch since the Kidd days, but your fortune is about to change.
Things about Williams..
Looks to distribute first, becomes more aggressive as the game goes on.
He's an elite fourth quarter performer.
Deceptively quick.
Elevates his game in the playoffs.
You guys are guys are going to love this guy, and I really hope he resigns with the Nets, unless he wants to return to Utah.

Re: Good luck Nets/Williams
I didnt care that we lost Favors, but I always had the opinion that he will be really good one day but not on the level of Melo (I was one of the few that wanted that trade to go down) or Williams. It was obvious the Nets werent making the playoffs even after getting Williams so next year should be very exciting. I was actually looking at some mock drafts and draft simulators and found it crazy that because the Jazz have two lotto picks they could end up with #1 and #2. That would be insane and Id be a little pissed, but not too much. Im more than happy with the trade because the Nets cant keep depending on high draft picks and HOPING to sign high profile free agents that want to win. Trading for an elite PG was a great start and should have a better shot at signing people this offseason.

Re: Good luck Nets/Williams
To me the Nets needed a proven star, and Williams will probably be in mentions for top 5 in the NBA next year, I can see him getting similar numbers to Rose next year, but even better. No point in holding on to Harris, so as a Nets' perspective it was basically trading Favors and two picks for Williams, no brainer if you ask me. NY is possibly the most attractive market in the league, only others that I think can compete are LA, Miami, and maybe Boston from a legacy/historic point of view. If the Nets make some smart decisions this summer, Williams will resign/sign extension IMO.
The Jazz on the other are a small market, and could not afford the Carmelo Anthony situation and distractions, or even worse a LBJ situation, losing him for nothing. The Jazz I think might have got more value than traded if you consider that the Jazz were in deer need of retooling/rebuilding, and this allows to get a ton of depth of potentially the next big thing in Favors. The picks are great too.

If the Jazz end up with the #1 and draft Kyrie Irving there's a poster on this board who is going to kill himself.

Irving will probably go first, but there is a chance he can slip to 2 or 3. Washington and Minnesota might pass on him (Wall and Rubio). Still your point stands.

Why? You expect Irving to be better than Williams? The kid went to Duke, hes either going to be a bust or spend 70% of his career nursing injuries.

Re: Good luck Nets/Williams
I have seen posts of NJ fans saying they want video of Derrick to see how his development is coming along. Here are a couple of videos of his recent double doubles. One against the Lakers, where he lead the team to a win over them (who doesn't like to see the Lakers fall). And the other was a great 4th quarter vs the Wizards.
As far as Deron goes, I hope it all works out for the Nets. He is a very gifted athlete and IMO his crossover is unmatched. He has been battling an injury this year which is why people talk so much about Rose, Westbrook, etc. But give him the offseason to heal and he will be back to his old self. Not that he hasn't done well when he has played, but dealing with that every day had to wear him out, so imagine how it will be when he is healthy.
I also think Deron is an amazing closer. You saw that in his last game with you guys. That is one of the main things the Jazz miss. We are searching for our go to guy to close games. For the longest time, that was Deron.
Initially I was skeptical about Deron re-signing there, but as time goes, I can see him staying with the Nets. Big market with the likes of LA, Chicago, etc. I think Deron will like that. I plan to follow his career and hope things work out for him. Jazz fans have an interest in the Nets losing this year because of the pick, but I will be cheering Deron on with my league pass subscription.
Anyway, for those who wanted the videos of Favors:

I'll never regret the trade but I knew that we were giving up a good, young talent in Favors in order to acquire D-Will. I'm pretty sure that with Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap he'll learn a ton of stuff really quickly. I'm really glad that he's starting to get it going. I saw some attitude on those finishes as well! I'll always support Derrick Favors!

He's showing far more at the Jazz than he ever did for us. Don't know if it was more Averys fault or the fact he was seen more as a trade chip here than a player.
I think Favors has a massive future.

Thanks for this, this is great to see. We've seen glimpses of this kind of performances from him, but Avery kept holding him back. Good to see the Jazz call plays for him as well as well as him playing at the end of the 4th. I'm really rooting for him to fulfil his potential. Saying that I don't regret this trade one bit, if it was for Melo I would've hated it, but Deron's a different story.

Yeah, with Favors, its more about down the road, more of a proj., with D-Will you get a superstar now. As far as Al and Millsap, I also think it is great for him. And it is great to see his attitude those times.

I agree with you 100% about the Deron or Melo comment. IMO, Deron is a much better teammate and from what I can see, unlike Melo, Deron makes his teammates better. I also think he is a better all around player. He makes those around him better. Marsh-Melo is the most overrated player in the league. I don't care if they play different positions, I think Deron is a superior player.

I don't even think anybody in the universe can argue this. Unless you're a delusional Knicks fan

Damn, looking at those Favors videos, he's already looking a lot more confident with the Jazz, and playing with more attitude. When he was here, I always thought at the very least, he would be a solid player. But I can see him becoming a great PF. Once he develops his offensive skillset, he'll be a great player. Defensively, the fundamentals are already there and he is developing at a good rate. Once he develops that mid range jumper and hits it consistently, he'll be great.
Btw, I appreciate the friendly, honest posts by the Jazz fans.

Yeah, it was a hard pill to swallow losing Deron, but it had to happen, we've had to accept that. Now that he is gone, no reason we can't still enjoy watching those killer crossovers, amazing dimes, and awesome closing ability.
I thought I'd add the highlight video of Favors game from last night vs the Spurs. He had a nice line with 17 points, 5 rebounds and a blocked shot. His moves have been amazing, its fun to watch.
Also, I was wondering if anyone here knows if there is somebody putting together highlights of Deron since he joined the Nets. I watch a lot of the games because I have league pass, but I was wondering if someone is putting together highlight videos. I searched around and the only one that I could find was only about a minute and a half long and the audio was music. Maybe I am alone on this, but I like to hear the commentary and the crowd reaction when watching NBA videos. I don't know about you guys but I like the Nets play-by-play announcer a lot. His voice is awesome and I like the words he uses to describe things. Anyway, if anyone knows of someone that I could subscribe to, or a thread that has them, please let me know in this thread.
Alright here is the vid of Favors vs the Spurs:

Re: Good luck Nets/Williams
He's a very good finisher already, both around the rim and from 15 feet or so. A few Nets players have commented that Derek's jumper is already there, and he just needed the confidence/opportunity to take them. He sporadically shot a few with the Nets and made them at a pretty good clip, but Avery was very insistent that he play under the rim and constantly try to dunk on people, which really isn't his game or personality. He's a good, smart finisher at the basket, but he isn't the type of athlete that's going to consistently catch the ball in the paint, gather himself, and posterize people. And despite being picked on by the refs quite a bit, he played very sold, physical man-to-man defense for us too.
I still very much doubt he ever becomes a franchise player or even a second option type scorer. I just don't think he moves well enough with the ball. But second option scorers are easy to find anyway, I think Favors will develop into something much rarer. I've said before, a bigger NJ-era Kenyon Martin is a very reasonable projection for a prime Favors. 16-17 PPG, 10 RPG, 2 BPG, an elite finisher with great defense.
