Prokhorov is "satisfied" with Nets' progress and strongly backs Avery Johnson
BY Stefan Bondy
Mikhail Prokhorov broke into the league with a larger than life persona and big promises, including a goal of getting the Nets getting to the playoffs in his first season.
It didn't quite work out that way for New Jersey, which finished 24-58 and way out of the postseason chase. Nonetheless, Prokhorov was happy with what he saw from the Nets the first season, even if he failed to make the 10 home games he set as a goal before the season started (Prokhorov came up three short).
Here's his postseason State of the Union from Russia:
"Overall, I am satisfied with the team's progress and the work of the coaching staff. When they had a healthy roster, we caught a tantalizing glimpse of what the Nets can and will be next season under the leadership of Deron Williams and Brook Lopez. I have every confidence that Avery Johnson is the right man to be coaching the team. The Nets have won twice as many games this season compared to the last one. At that rate, in two years we'll have broken every record in the League! Most importantly, we have resolved strategic issues that will serve as the foundation for building a first-rate team as we get ready for the move to Brooklyn in 2012."
