It's a two players draft so yes 10x out of 10.

Theres one thing you need to realize. If the trade never happened you dont know how many games the Nets would have won, meaning the number of ping pong balls would change and so would the position in the draft. Not trading for Deron would not have guaranteed the #3 pick just because that is how it went down yesterday.

It doesnt matter that we know the pick ended up as #3 because theres no guarantee it would have been #3 is the traded didnt happen. It could have been a higher pick or a lower pick. But either way, I do the trade 100% of the time.

Its going to take Favors years to become an all star caliber player (if he ever does). And this #3 pick I doubt will become an all star type player Kanter, Walker, or Knight. You never know.

Yes. Why does the 1st round pick still get attention? If we had the #3 pick, you are looking at taking Brandon Knight or reaching quite far for a 3.

Right now, it still looks worth it, as this is a kooky draft, with only two surefire stars, and arguably no one with superstar or even perennial All-Star potential. But IF Deron bolts next summer, assuming he had turned down an extension, we may have to view this as a bad gamble. It's still too early to tell for sure, but either way, I'm proud that our FO has the stones to make a big splash. It's almost impossible to win a title without a future HoF-er. Now, we have that.

Trust me, the Nets did the right thing in trading for Williams.

See guys...

Here's the thing. You cant decide something is a bad gamble AFTER you make it. You have to weigh the risks and commit BEFORE you make it. You have to factor in the fact that the guy you deal for could leave as a free agent. You have to factor on that a shorter contract with the new CBA being worked on could actually help you as well. You have to factor in future cap flexibility. How close are you to contending or even competing? What type of team can you truly build going forward with the move before topping off as a middle of the pack? Can you bust through that ceiling with the direction you chose to go?

And most importantly...was it a good gamble to land a top 10 NBA player for a former all star PG who most of us thought was overated, plus last year's biggest upside draft pick plus a top 6 draft pick this season...not if its a 1 no, if its a 6 yes. Where it lands when you have no protection WAS part of the gamble.

So if you loved the trade before...the draft should have NO bearing now. Can I understand the thought process of...hey we bet, we lost? Yes. But please dont call it a bad gamble based on what pick Utah got. Utah made the bigger gamble. They gave up a young franchise PG who had alrady taken then to the playoffs for a raw Favors, an injury prone Devin and their best upside to this deal was the HOPE they land the best possible pick. They moved up....but not all the way. So was THEIR gamble worth it? If they landed the #1 was it worth it? How can you answer that using a known/unknown angle to your logic? Go through past drafts. MANY #1 picks who arent anywhere near a Deron Williams.

Anyway, good luck the Utah they have a lot of work to do to turn it back around. Good luck to us. If the CBA screws us we could be headed to firmly middle in a hurry. It figures. All these years screwed as a small market team...we make a big trade for a franchise star and they want to talk franchise tag just as we are ready to jump accross the river and become a major market team? What a bunch of crap...
