Raps fan here. Asking for some input from about Lawrence Frank. It would be greatly appreciated.
Some on our board think he's a defensive expert.

He's kind of a jack-of-all-trades maser of none kind of guy. He preaches defense first. I can't really recall a player he didn't get along with publicly...

Yeah, just go to the link that DarkXaero put up. A fan of a different team (I think it was Houston) asked us the same question when Frank was in the running for the head coaching job.

I think his greatest weakness is in the emotional management of his teams. My biggest complaint about him was how he was unable to motivate his team, and that at times the team seemed to tune him out (especially leading up to JKidd's departure).
He gets mad props from all the commentators/analysts about being one of the most well prepared/organized/hardest working coaches in the league. But then I look at coaches like PJax, Doc, and Sloan and I notice that their teams seem to respond better to them, even when they give the simplest messages.

He had nothing to do with Kidd leaving. Kidd loved him. All the vets did. The rooks didnt. But...he got the job when we were still good and before he was ready. He had quick success and then when it was time to actually coach...he got into trouble. He tended to prepare well...but under coach let the guys do what they wanted. Analyzed and spoke well about what we didnt do...but didnt seem to get his guys to do it. Early on young players had no place with him...until the rebuild began.
The truth? We wont know how good he is until he gets job #2. He showed a lot of promise despite him not being the right coach for this team when he first got the job. But he works so hard. he is bright. Players like him. He takes the bullet with the media for his guys...and yet the media likes him.
I think...he has great potential to continue to evolve as a coach. He will give you his all. I am actually looking forward to him getting another job. I was always hard on him back then beause as I said...I didnt feel he was the right guy for us. I wanted a more experienced coach following two years in the NBA finals....a guy who had the poise to impact what was happening on the floor.
But now...I can objectively say...he is one of the good guys...and I can see him evolving into a great coach.

Agree with E. Look, a lot of us didn't like Scott, and I firmly believe he cost us a Championship with his coaching in that Finals against the Spurs. But his time in NOH he showed improvement, and I believe he'll be better in Cleveland.
Even Avery has shown some changes from what he did in Dallas.
It happens. Coaching in the NBA is a tough gig, and most will require one failed stint that they can look back on before really hitting their stride.

He was pretty good for his level of experience. Good defensive coach, diagrammed some good plays. Like Enetric said, job #2 will show us a lot about him. And he did have my all time favorite moment on ESPN First Take.

Really!!
Has he gotten a job yet?
When he got fired, how many people thought he was going to get a head coaching job the next year?
Frank was always an assistant coach. Mark Jackson got the GSW job over Frank. Casey got the Toronto Job over Frank. Mchale got the Houston job over Frank.
SMH!!!!!!!
Was Boston's defense better this year or last year?
LOL!!!!!

Boston's defense was better this year and that was with guys like KG being a year older and slower and Perkins' game falling off the face of the earth when he actually did play / being jettisoned later in the year and forcing Jermaine O'neal into the starting lineup.
2010-2011:Opp FG%: .434
Opp PPG: 91.1
Def Rating: 100.3
2009-2010:Opp FG%: .451
Opp PPG: 95.6
Def Rating: 103.8
Def Rating = Points per 100 possessions.
No one has wanted to believe me but I've been saying for the last few seasons that the Celtics problem is with their offense not their defense.
