Josh Smith

I'm not a huge fan, but the thing i'm actually excited about is a big name supposedly listing the Nets as a preferred destination. It's been a while. I would like his athleticism but I surely would not want to spend franchise money on him. Hopefully we can get a salary dump if it happens.

Personally, I'm intrigued by the idea of bringing him in, in a not so costly manner of course.
In order to keep Deron around they are going to have to bring in some big name players. I wouldn't be opposed to this move in the least bit.
He probably ends up in Boston....

Im sure most of you are aware im a big fan of bringin in J-Smoove. I was very excited to see him list the Nets as one of his preferred destinations. I just hope any trade scenarios involves a third team taking Outlaw off of our hands.

Josh Smith for Jameer Nelson and Brandon Bass could be an interesting move for both teams.
Would tie into Dwight's Arenas comments as well.

My thoughts from the other thread are just that I don't think the Nets have enough to get him and may not compete with the other teams on his list. I wouldn't mind bringing him in (especially if it meant D-Will staying and Dwight absolutely wanting to come here), but I just don't see it happening.

Am I the only one perplexed as to why Atlanta would make that trade. After getting Hinrich last year and the progress of Teague in the playoffs, I really don't see the need for Jameer in Atlanta.

What do you guys think of this trade? (assuming no amnesty clause)
Nets Trade:
Lopez
Outlaw
Farmar
ATL Trade:
Hinrich
J-Smoove
Pachullia
Depth chart:
D-Will/Gaines
Hinrich/Morrow
- /James
Jsmoove/
Pachulia/Petro
I think that's a playoff team. This way we can get expirations for howard, give us more relevance by getting his best friend, and compete for the playoffs next season.

Man, @kidd2k6. I was harmlessly reading this topic on Josh Smith and after reading your post suggesting that the only realistic trade that involves B.Lopez is crazy, I had to post and call you out on it.
In order to get this deal done, bring a big name next to Deron, show him other than tell him that NJ is serious about building an contender it is going to take letting go of Brook Lopez to get it done.
A few things you see because you are blinded by your Love affair with Lopez is that Josh Smith yes is bigger Impact player between the two and will result in more W's in the Win column now + in the future.
More importantly, JOSH SMITH IS DWIGHT HOWARD'S BEST FRIEND. Need I say more?
Don't be blinded.

Sigh ... since nobody else is willing to be the buzz-kill, I will.
The Nets are not going to get Josh Smith, unless they give up Brook Lopez in a multi-team trade. They simply don't have the assets. It doesn't matter how good Billy King is; he can't use Jordan Farmar, Anthony Morrow, Damion James and Johan Petro (even if included with picks) to net Josh Smith. It's not happening.
I just hope the Nets can add some quality role players and get what they need in free-agency while also leaving room for Dwight Howard.
This is a pipe-dream.

who exactly suggested in this thread that Josh Smith can be had without Lopez being involved?

If it can be done without us giving up Deron or Brook, then great. But if we have to give up Brook, then I'll pass. Unless Dwight comes in free agency to Nets, I wouldn't give up Brook for Josh Smith.

The PER and W/S 48 comparisons of those two certainly don't agree with your statement of Josh being a more of an impact player.
The only, and THE ABSOLUTELY ONLY, way I make this deal, is if I KNOW, not think or hope or whatever other word you choose, that Dwight is following him.

As the day goes on I don't think this deal is all that plausible . The Hawks are going to want way to much in retrun for Josh Smith. The Nets might not have what Atlanta could be searching for in a trade.
A friend of mine suggested that Orlando, New Jerz, and Atlanta should work out a deal that would send DHoward to NJ. Josh Smith to Orlando for J.J. Reddick + picks to Hawks, and Brook Lopez to Magic.
Everyone wins..

Yes you DO need to say more. Like...how do you expect to sign Dwight in 2012 if we add a player making 13.2 mil for 2012...this season? I mean...we have the cap hold for Deron...who is expected to make 17.8 mil in 2012. Even if he opts out rather than extend to give the team the type of deal LBJ, Bosh and Wade gave the Heat....still talking 14mil. What exactly is the plan to dump all of Outlaw, Farmar, Morrow and Petro? And of course NOT sign anyone else including Hump to more than a 1 year deal.
I personally would have no problem dealing Brook for Smith if this was next summer and we had Dwight signed. No problem. DONE. But...I want to hear a plan that actually sets us up cap wise to do it...you know where the Hawks arent laughing at the idea of eating our long term contracts.

Which of course is the problem. No one wants to come up with a plan. They just want action.

I head he has a 15% trade kicker too. Mmm...no good.
