IF We Had to Deal Deron...(Topics Merged)

Let's say hypothetically that the Nets and Deron reach an impasse on extension talks. Would you be open to dealing him sooner than later? I mean, let's say we snag Nene, to the tune of 5 years and $68mil. That FA acquisition, while a big step toward long-term contention, would tie up most of our capspace, effectively taking us out of the running to trade for Dwight Howard (at least until Dec. 15th). If not being able to get the DPoY is the last straw for Williams, maybe we ought to check out his value on the trading market.
Of course, the trick would be finding a trading partner with whom D-Will would sign an extension, and can give us fair return value. Since he was raised in Texas, and Houston has been collecting youth assets in the hopes of executing a superstar trade, I thought the Rockets would be a good partner. Here's the deal:
DW/TrOut/Petro for K-Mart/Flynn/PPI also think that they should remove the protection on the '12 pick that they owe us. This deal would free us from the contracts of Outlaw and Petro, while adding a young PG with starter potential and a great rotation PF. Also, we would gain about $9.5mil in additional capspace from this deal, enabling us to make a competitive offer for another FA (like Wilson Chandler, 5 years, $56mil). Losing a top-10 player hurts, but if he won't commit long-term we might be better off building a team around Brook. Our team would end up looking like this:
Farmar, Martin, Chandler, Hilario, Lopez
Flynn, Morrow, James, Patterson, Williams
What do you think?

Personally, I wouldn't deal with this issue till we get there. There are so many variables that can't be accounted for yet (e.g. the lockout, free agency, trades, etc.) that it's tough to make any comments.
Also, the Nets fan side of me doesn't want to face this reality anyway...

If we had to deal him, I've said it before, there's basically 3 pretty realistic deals I would take:
Trade #1
OKC sends Westbrook and a pick, Cleveland gets Westbrook, sends us Kyrie Irving and a pick plus the pick from OKC.
Trade #2
OKC sends James Harden and Serge Ibaka. They can then deal Westbrook for a top notch big.
Trade #3
We send him somewhere that like OKC and a third team comes in and sends us a 2012 pick that is guaranteed to be top 5 plus some filler like a later future pick orr two.

BTW, ecuhus, your deal is just awful.
That team is a treadmill team to the fullest extent possible.

If I'm Billy King and the rest of the front office I am doing everything under the sun to keep Deron in Jerz.
Another thing to consider is finding a serious trade partner that Deron will be willing to go play. Time will tell.

Honestly not sure how realistic an OKC deal is at this point. At this point, I'm not sure OKC would give up Westbrook when Deron is this close to free agency. It's also hard to see OKC totally taking a sledgehammer to their team like they would in trade #2 (since between Deron and the followup deal they'd be moving 3 of their 4 best players).
If we were in a position where Deron had to be moved, the first team I'd call is the Clippers. Something centered around the MIN pick and Bledsoe. Trading Deron means you're rebuilding and there's no better way to start the rebuild with a second lottery pick in what should be a loaded draft.
I do agree with you about the original proposal in this thread. It would be a "treadmill trade" to the truest extent. Also if you're going to trade a star like Deron you do not compromise the level of talent coming back by including bad contracts like Outlaw and Petro. There's a reason why 90% of superstar trades have not involved a bad contract bundled with the superstar (Marbury/Penny to the Knicks being the one exception).
Its a moot point though since Indiana would never accept that trade.

I think the Pacers would trade Danny Granger, Collison and the 2012 future first. Of course Dwill would probably never want to come to Indy especially with out Granger.

I meant the original trade that Echus proposed where Indy was trading Granger for Morrow, Jordan Hill and the 2012 HOU first (with the protection lifted). My bad on not being clear

If you had to deal him the big problem just like with the Melo deal is that any team that trades for him and gives up assets will want him to sign an extension. Now I think D-will would be open to signing with more than 1 team but it hurts the Nets position in negotiations. My guess as to where he'd be open to would be the obvious ones like LA Lakers, Dallas Mavericks, NY Knicks, maybe LA Clippers with maybe a few others like Orlando if Dwight stays or maybe OKC Thunder. Now I don't believe the Nets would deal him unless they were absolutely sure he wasn't coming back. I don't see them shipping him to NY as they are right across the river. Maybe LA Lakers could give up Gasol or Bynum and maybe Odom. The Clipps would be a sleeper as they have some expiring contracts and have maybe the best asset in the game Minny's unprotected 2012 pick. Their would be options but the Nets won't deal him until they are absolutely sure he isn't coming back.

None of these trades are realistic because Deron isnt signing with either of these teams. No extension...no deal. You know the drill...see Melo.
I am of course playing along with...if there is a season...and if there is a trade deadline. Why are we acting like there will be one? Long summer?

If they got an extension...Thunder would be NUTS not to make that trade. But why would Deron sign off on that deal? If he walks...he is walking for big market.

Haha, I love when E comes back and has like 20 posts over night and you wake up and check the forums to see how he has dominated every topic. It's like he's Santa Clause except he's yelling at you about how stupid your analysis is and yet if you're lucky enough, you'll get an Enetric gold star lol. Gotta love it...
Anyway, I agree that the Thunder would only make that trade if the D-Will agrees to an extension. However, I won't go so far to say that he won't sign because it's a smaller market. He would have a great chance of making the WCF/Finals for a number of years if signed there. We all know that D-Will likes playing in a bigger market but at the same time, we know how gung ho he is on winning.

LOL! Thanks I needed a good laugh. And if I came off like I was saying anyone's analysis was stupid....my apologies.
Now...Merry f-ing' Xmas biatches!

Don't really like it from Houstons standpoint. That looks like a one and done team to me:
Dwill / Lowry / Dragic
Lee / Williams
Morris / Budinger / Parsons / Outlaw
Scola / Montejounas
Hayes / Hill / Petro
Houston counter offer:
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachi ... Id=68xcrosDwill / Dragic
Martin / Lee / Williams
Morris / Budinger / Outlaw / Parsons
Scola / Monetjounas
Hayes / Hill

Switch Thabeet, Flynn with Budinger, Morris, take off the protection off the pick you owe us and you take back Petro.

Doesn't work salary wise,
that leaves us with
Dwill / Dragic / Flynn
Martin / Lee / Williams
Parsons / Outlaw
Scola / Montejounas
Hayes / Hill / Petro / Thabeet
Seems again like a one and done team that isn't in a position to make anymore moves or get better. I don't think Dwill sticks around with that team.

That offer is awful.
If I'm dealing D Will, I want one major asset in the package minimum and I'm not killing the value by including Trouthouse.

If Dwill goes, I think its for a package built on a disgruntled talent or a high level draft pick.
Russell Westbrook if that team can't get over the hump? Tyreke Evans has value and would be better than losing him for nothing.
Rubio and Derrick Williams in Minny? Would that appease anyone if it came down to this doomsday senario?
