The Chris Paul Effect

We really need to keep a close eye on where Chris paul ends up. It could potentially side track our plans on acquiring Dwight.

Looks like it's going to happen as of right now.

Also, great work to the NBA with the amnesty system. Players can force themselves to where they want to play, still, after being amnestied. Billups is going to be in Miami.

Latest news from Larry Coon...players can renegotiate contracts and spread it over longer period of time as long as salary doesn't decrease by 40%.

This, if anything, is probably the nail to the Nets coffin. With this change to the CBA, other teams might actually be able to keep their players (like the Magic) or sign new players (like the Knicks, Mavs) in 2012.

Didn't do math on this, of course...but we might as well throw what we know about the salary cap with this rule, as it opens things up for a lot of stuff to happen.

Not sure it works out like that. If it did it would be getting a lot more media coverage.

Don't think it works like that, I'm sure there's a cap on how long the negotiated contract will be, I doubt it will be like baseball.

And LA gets paul for Bynum and Odom.

Zero chance Dwight gets traded there now, right?

Just read some report it's a 3-team trade involving Houston with Gasol also going to Houston.

If LA gets Dwight I'll stop following the NBA for a while. This is ridiculous.

Yup. I'm with you.

Pau Gasol and Odom for Chris Paul?!

How can Stern allow this trade with a straight face?

What is a team like NOH going to do with these 2 guys?

I can't... I mean... wow...

Who are they getting back? They can't possibly trade Gasol, Odom, AND Bynum without getting a couple of big men back

If we don't get Dwight it's pretty much a wrap. LAL will get him.

I don't even know Deron will leave, but NBA basketball will be pointless for all but about 5 teams fans and the player fanboys that watch to nut hug superstars and bandwagon the winner.

I'm not saying Orlando will want him, but that's what I think the LAL front office is thinking.

I can't... I mean... wow...

I've been reading the reports.

NOH management respects CP3 and wants to maintain good relations with him post-any trade. This is why NOH is even willing to talk to CP3 in the first place.

Now, I think we need to stop overreacting and thinking about the end result rather than who's getting traded.

If the Lakers do this trade, every one of their star players (Kobe, CP3, Bynum) will have had knee surgery within the last two years. The best thing for an older team is to have big men like Gasol, who you can pass the ball to down low.

Kobe is no spring chicken but in order for the Lakers to win, they'll have lost their height advantage. AND on top of that, they're asking their most injury-prone player to now become the focal point down low and to run up and down the floor.

Gasol and Odom would no longer eat his minutes or replace Bynum when he's out. Now, you're asking CP3, a 33/34 year old Kobe, and Andrew Bynum to outrun other teams cuz there is no way they're going to outmuscle them now.

The length of the Lakers will be gone. And they're easily a knee twist away from being a bottom 4 playoff team in the West.

I don't see why everyone is so up in arms. The only way this deal makes 1/2 of any sense is if D12 goes there eventually. If not, this move officially took away the #1 thing the Lakers have beat teams with and that's height.

I think people are so up in arms is because they just acquired a top five player in his prime for two guys in there thirties. The Hornets just traded him for the sake of trading him. I mean, I like Luis Scola and Kevin Martin, but this doesn't make sense for them.

This keeps happening over and over. Lakers trade for a top player all the while trading assets that don't make sense for the other team when others have more intriguing offers.

It helps them clear lots of cap room also. If they reject bynum's option next year, and possibly amnesty peace or walton, and dwight becomes a FA (which he will cause he will make mo money) he can sign with the Lakers too. Don't have a lot of time to check, am I right?

smh at the hornets
