Just want to tie it all together...

Hey guys...checking in....
I should probably read through the threads to see if this has been spoken to...
But the Nene thing? Is it even feasible for us to sign Nene and still make the the Dwight deal? Haven't looked at it closely...but off the top of my head seems like its a this or that move. Anyone want to speak to that?
Next...the trade veto
The scary downside...a potential pair of moves I can see in my mind's eye that screw us....
LA turns around and goes after Howard with the same assets. Knicks offer Amare for Paul...league approves that because Hornets get a face of the franchise star back...more sellable...which is what the league is trying to do with the Hornets.

The trade veto was a very circumstantial thing. Because the Hornets are owned by all the other owners apparently their complaints were taken into consideration by Stern and he cancelled it. This would NOT be allowed with any ordinary trade with a single owner.
So yes, LA is probably going to go hard at Dwight Howard now that they can't get Paul via a trade. I wouldn't put it pass them to offer Gasol and Bynum and try to sign Paul next offseason.
Its extremely unlikely for us to sign Nene and get Howard because
a) you can't sign a free agent and immediately turn around and trade him, there is a grace period in between (most likely halfway through the regular season at least).
b) we're probably overpaying Nene as is the norm and IMO he'll immediately be an amnesty candidate next year, Orlando won't want to trade for him even with Lopez and picks included. He's not that good people.
c) Nene wouldn't be signing with us unless we swore to him we weren't trading him to some rebuilding project. While i doubt there is specific language in any contract for this, i doubt thats the way we'll operate.

La could not sign Paul in the summer after doing al that. That wouldnt have the cap room. So this would be a this instead of that.
As for Nene...I wasnt implying re-trade him to Orlando. I was saying...is it even possible for us to salary match a Dwight deal if we sign Nene and KEPT Nene? THe Dwight deal as proposed uses our cap space to avoid salary matching. If we sign Nene...there goes that chip. And of course no way to eat Hedo's contract.
So...without forcing Outlaw into the deal since Orlando wont take him on...can we even salary match for Dwight AND sign Nene?
That's what I am trying to get a handle on. I have to pull up the salaries. See if there is a package for Dwight we can offer that salary matches, but keeps Nene with us and doesnt try to get Orlando to eat Outlaw which they wont do.

It would be a little hard to match with Nene signed.
It could be done though, but we would have to include Morrow and we can't spend the remaining $7.5 mill we should have in cap after signing him.

Reports are Outlaw will be amnestied.

Again, we're almost definitely amnestying Outlaw, so not much need for worry there.
It's doable though. Sign Nene and get Dwight.

I wasnt implying that I dont want to Amnesty Outlaw. I am just aware that he is one of the larger contracts we have so he is the easy solution to salary match. I was just trying to avboid people making offers or ideas that had Outlaw going to Orlando because we both know...Orlando wouldnt take him. So? Sign Nene...what's the package match for Dwight? Lets put pen to Paper.
The two picks still in there. Brook still in there. Now...we have to match for Dwight salary wise...what's the package?

I just added up the numbers off HH in my head.
If we amnesty Outlaw, and let Grahm go, at about 34 mil with 8 contracts...havent seen the rook signing so add those and go from there.
So we are looking at 20-25mil left. Deduct Nene.
Now if we cant take Hedo...and we cant absolb all of Dwight without going over the cap, what has to go back out with Brook to make this work cap wise?

Hedo makes about 11M, Dwight makes 16-18M (not sure, going off top of my head here). So we need roughly $28M to have room for those two. IF we are also signing Nene, that's another rumored $15M this year. That takes us to $43M that we need to acquire these three players.
You say we have $34M after Outlaw is amnestied + approx $2M for Brooks/Jordan takes us to $36M. Cap this year is $58M, which means we have $22M available.
This would mean we are short $21M from what we need to acquire Hedo + Dwight + Nene. I don't think we have any large contract big enough (sans Deron) to cover that $21M

Unless there is a 3-team deal.

They add up to roughly 29.1
We have roughly 22.5 in cap after executing the Outclaws.
Sign Nene, probably S&T with Denver, I suspect it will be 4 years and around $63 mill starting at $14 with 7.5% raises.
Take away his cap hold and account for his salary you're at 9 mill.
Brook
Brooks
Farmar
Morrow
Petro
9 mill cap
Comes to around 24.6
You can do it. 2 separate trades if necessary. You also have James salary to work with and Gaines. Jordan Williams, etc.
Get to keep Nene but are left with a skeleton crew for this season and thin assets and cap space/exceptions to improve the roster in the future.

I did the calc. in another thread... Yes the Nets can still sign Howard after giving Nene a ridiculous $14 million a year contract.
If the starting price is higher than that then things get a bit complicated...

There you go!
Two deals. That's what we were missing. OK. So...Lets use the pieces and come up with two trades where we get Howard and Hedo and do not include Outlaw in any version.

Who's cap hold are you referring to?

Nene. Once you sign him it cancels a cap hold, giving u close to another 500K in cap.

He means the open roster spot...about 500K per open spot.

Doing good, just trying to tell VC and the rest of the board that everything will be ok. He seems to be a bit hip to conspiracy theories lol.
But, we're definitely glad you checked in. Although you missed about 2-3 trolls within the last 10 days or so that you would've blasted, if you were here. It's funny when people come on the board and are asking if you're still here and then I have to respond, "well, back in the day you see....."lol

Hey Enetric, how are you doing? Nice to see you back.
I don't know if someone brought this, but Stan Van Gundy voted for Brook Lopez for the all star team in 2010.
So, Magic probably look to Lopez with good eyes.
If somehow we get D12 and Nene... I will be so happy...
Go Nets!
