The nets can't just sit around with their thumbs up their arse waiting for orlando to make a decision. I think they just sign Nene...try to pick up a veteran SF for cheap like RJ...and resign Hump for a decent contract and give it a shot with that team. If they keep waiting around...they will be left with nothing!

Yeah, screw up the chance to trade for a top 2 player in the league just to sign Humphries and RJ. that makes sense.

You have to understand at the end of the day it's all about business, and any player and I mean ANY NBA player, yes that includes Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose, all those "humble" guys will do what is in their best interest.

My interest as a fan is the best chance for a championship, and I feel that team isn't enough to cut it, it's Dwight Howard or bust, and I hope the FO does everything possible to make it happen.

Nah, I'll take the top 5 player who doesn't want to be here, but is signed long term, over a top 105 player that just loves playing for the Nets. One gets you a championship, the other makes you the Milwaukee Bucks.

So what if the Nets don't get Howard...and Nene signs else where, and basically all the top free agents are gone! So the Nets would basically be left holding the bags...that's a good thing?

The best thing about what has currently happened is that we are practically guaranteed to get Nene.

The main competition for his services (HOU, IND) have got their PF so they no longer need his services. Regardless of whether we get Howard now or later, Nene should be ours.
RJ accepts the vet minimum, it doesn't affect us being below or over the cap so it's irrelevant.

Our plan B even more a certainty than it was at the start of FA. If there's no Dwight deal very soon, Nene will just sign with us.

The Nets know more about the Dwight situation than you, me, or anyone else on this forum does. They aren't going to jump the gun - while being favorites Dwight - to make signings and get rid of the cap space. This is obvious because despite reports that Nene is a Net, it isn't official.

I agree with some of you guys for the most part...but I don't see anything wrong with a hard playing "fringe" playoff team. That's how championship teams are built...not that super team sh*t...teams grow through time and cohesion.

the fact that there aren't any news of Nene signing somewhere and the Nets upping the offer for NeNe is a good sign so patience is a virtue my friend

Great point...I just feel a little uneasy that it's basically up to Orlando to send him wherever they want to.

The problem with your idea is that even if we were a hard playing fringe play-off team, that team you listed just doesn't have enough quality in it to get past the Heat or Chicago. D12 is a game changer, he's 10x the player Nene will ever be, D12 is probably the defensive player of the last 3-5 years and him anchoring the D with Williams running the point has the potential to be something special and would make our team that much better. The NBA is a superstars league, the more we have the higher our chances of winning, especially 2 players who not only compliments each other well, but are both great offensively and defensively.

Orlando could also say screw it, let's see if we can win something and miraculously convince a guy who wants out to stay. I wouldn't put that past them, and wouldn't mind that scenario at all.

But if they do that, they aren't going to get any salary relief and be put back five years in rebuilding.

Enough of the Lakers, Celtics, Heat, Knixed. It's all about us right now. This is our off-season moment!

When it all unfolds and we get Dwight, it'll be all worth it.

We will gain RESPECT from other teams, from the media, from the TV stations to cover our games. And then watch bandwagoners flock our board.

Our RGM fanbase would multiply from 20 to 200 or even 2,000...

This is our best chance to get back to respectability post-Kidd era.

Nene? That's one step forward and two steps backwards. I'd rather rebuild if we lose on the sweepstakes.

If, after all the efforts we put it and we end up losing, I'll still feel good knowing that our FO TRIED and never QUITTED... I'll always be proud to be a Nets fan.

This times a bajillion.

Dwight having us a preferred destination and us having cap space to sign him in the offseason gives us crazy leverage. It means other clubs going for dwight are less likely to commit to trading for him if he's not inked into a new contract. Dwight will feel fine walking given that he did the right thing telling Otis that he wanted to move on (unlike the cb and lbj). Dwight will know that by signing as a free agent the nets get to retain more assets to play alongside him or use in trades to build around him.

The minute we commit to a new back up plan we lose that leverage and are dependent on Orlando to help us out. Then if we lose deron we're committed to a guy like nene who just doesn't make sense in a rebuild (which is why denver should & will let him walk). The better worst case scenario is to have deron leave and still have brook, cap space and the lottery.

Lol...nah homie. Former Knick fan that came over before the 09'-10' season. At that time I was loving the young nucleus with Terrence Willams, Favors, and Lopez. So this is a really exciting time to be a fan for me.

Can I take this thread back

I have to say this thread was a real pleasure for me. Over the last decade I have spent an embarrassing amount of time out of my life preashing patience and big picture thinking. Trying to educate fans on the process that is the NBA and how to get where you want to go. It wasnt that long ago that there were more than enough voices arguing back who didnt get it. Panic and fear of getting nothing and we might lose a bit longer and all these nonsense reasons why we should make medicore moves that lock us up for years to come kept me in back and forth battles over posts just like this. I cant recall a time I read this many posters on this board on the side of big picture thinking. Maybe its the smell of how close we are? Well, just dont forget how it feels. I told you all 3 yers ago what Brooklyn would mean and I never waivered. I said embrace the losing and hold onto the assets until the right opportunites prensented themselves? Well...its been 17 months and we are have spent that time being on Lebron's radar, landing Deron and having Dwight request a trade here. Anyone want to dig up threads telling me how much they want to crap money away on Tay Prince?

Regardless of outcome lets hope King continues the patience until he gets the right pieces. Rod certainly stocked the ponds before he left didnt he? Life is good.
