Chauncey Billups??

Post#1 » by Revolutionistt » Mon Dec 12, 2011 10:36 pm

This is interesting, especially because part of the reasoning to try and sign him is to prevent the Magic from doing so. I think its a brilliant move to try and keep Dwights focus on coming to the Nets as early as possible. At the very least he will serve as a positive backup PG and play some good minutes while being a positive locker room presence for the young guys. Even if we cant land Dwight and end up signing Nene I like the idea of having Billups on the roster.

I see absolutely NO downside here either. Like Arenas...costs us virtually nothing. Fill out a roster with a dirt cheap contract for someone who knows how to play.

Worst case scenario...he hates being claimed by us and decided to retire. So what? Now he doesnt go to the Heat or Orlando or to any other team that is a threat.

Best case scenario he still has something left to contribute and gives us quality minutes. I would pick up Arenas too. Why not? Arenas and Billups coul pick up minutes at the 2. No question.

Cant have too many people who know how to pass cant have too many people who can rebound a basketball. The downside here is so minimal...and I LOVE the message it sends to Dwight and Orlando.

You don't think Dwight might react negatively to having his attempts to stay loyal thwarted? It's kind of like a weird love triangle at the moment. Dwight is sending out mixed messages and seems a little emotionally unstable. Not sure if it's the right move to use the force on him.

That malarkey aside if you sign Billups you're also keeping him out of LA.

Arenas is different. He already cleared the waiver process but is a complete FA now.

We have to bid on Chauncey and the highest bidder gets him.

What would be good is if we signed Nene, R.Williams, RJ to vet min, and then gave Chauncey the rest of the money. He'd be a huge expiring contract and one that would be valuable closer to the deadline.

It's a business. If the Nets make the moves, that just means that they're making the championship moves that Dwight has wanted all along lol. He's not going to hate us for that. D-Will will just tell him, "See, we get stuff done in Brooklyn".

We didn't bid. An amnestied player claimed can't be traded til the offseason. We didn't bid.

Well, Chauncey is gone now (to the Clippers). Unfortunately, we aren't in for Reggie Williams atm. I would like RJ here for vet. min but did he ever actually get amnestied? I thought Spurs were holding on to him for now since they didn't get a SF in FA.
