Why aren't we using a Deron/Humphries pick and roll?

For the most part, when I see Deron running the pick and roll, the most obvious guy to do it with (Humphries) isn't being used...it's Petro or Shelden Williams. And I read an article that says because nobody on the team is a legit post presence, Williams is getting a lot more defensive attention, which is hurting his production. So why not just keep running a Williams/Humph pick and roll, it should work very well.

And I don't mean just run it once in a while, I mean abuse the crap out of it. That should basically be our main offensive play the whole time...I don't know if people remember, but that OT game against Phoenix last year when Humphries tip-in came just a bit too late, Nash and Gortat were murdering us on the pick and roll...they literally ran it 5 straight times and we couldn't do anything about it. And whenever they needed a basket, they went with the pick and roll and they got the basket. I don't see why Williams/Humphries can't just do the same thing.

Okur needs to start hitting his shots though, he's looked terrible in these first two games. If he can go back to being the shooter that he normally is, the pick and pop with Deron should be another consistent source of offense.

I would just start Okur if my only other option was Petro.

i agree, we should a one of the most pick and roll heavy teams in the league with the line-up we have right now. the pick and roll with Deron and Hump or Memo is probably our best option for developing offense in the half court. it keeps our wings from having to any kind of ball-handling and/or dribble hand off responsibilities and allows James to back cut off the action and Morrow, Brooks, and Shawne to spot up.

not really. i mean hes been bad because he cant hit a shot but hes also still very new to this team and hasnt been given any kind of chance to get into a rhythm. and unfortunately we dont have the luxury of having him earn his burn. he needs to be given over 30 minutes a game and given a green light for the foreseeable future, until he proves to us that it just isn't going to happen. because him turning into something is the really the only chance this team has to stay in games

Apparently the concept of running the P&R with our two best players seems to escape Avery's mind.

But Avery would have to purposely be telling them not to do it for us not to be using it nearly as much as we should...it's one of the most basic and one of the most effective plays in basketball, everyone uses it, even kids that play pick up ball use it...your best finisher and your best passer run it together, yet for some reason, we're not doing that...weird and frustrating as hell...especially considering that it's Deron's bread and butter, used it with Boozer/Jefferson/Okur all the time back in Utah.

Avery's sucks imo. We shouldve gotten Mark Jackson when we had a chance.

Don't understand the Avery hate. Have you guys seen the Nets rosters since he took over?

Was just saying this on the General Board before I went to sleep a few hours ago.

I never wanted Avery at all.

Said back when it happened would have kept Opie over him.

How much you want to bet if we get Dwight, Avery is fired by the summer of 2013?

Most of the long-time posters here wanted no part of Avery Johnson but if the Nets had signed Mark Jackson I would have stopped following the NBA. :-?

It's a system choice, and not a very good one. Avery ran the P&R all day when he was in SAS, and should know that it is chicken noodle soup for a floundering offense such as ours.

Why?

I think Mark Jackson will be a very good but not great coach who balances being a players coach and keeping order amongst his team.

Wow, I'm not down on Avery at all as a coach.

He's the right kind of coach...a tough, defensive minded coach, who has a lot of experience and has had a lot of success. He's not the problem, he just makes a couple of questionable calls, like not running the P&R. But overall, I like him as a coach, he's WAY better than Frank or Vandewegh (sp?).

Oh that's all?

Avery's a tool and as mediocre a NBA basketball coach as they come, he isn't close to the coach Opie was and I was not an Opie fan.

He might be able to relate to young and lower level players on a personal level but I have absolutely no confidence in his X and O ability... The guy had no prior coaching experience he would have been a TERRIBLE fit for the Nets.

I hope things go well for in Golden State but I wouldn't count on it.
