The Official Trade Thread

Post#1 » by vincecarter4pres » Sun Jan 15, 2012 4:49 am

So we probably need one of these, we used to have one, now we don't, so now we do.

I'll start with a statement and a target but not an actual trade.

If MarShon is legit, then the perfect fit next to him IMHO is Nicolas Batum.

IDK how we could get him without overpaying, but man he would fit right.

I was going to post this earlier, but didn't know which thread lol. Looks like Blazers are going to commit to either Batum or Wallace, and everything points to Wallace.

No way to get him without overpaying. It would probably be Damion James and the Rockets first just to get them to pick up the phone, plus more to get them to listen, plus more to get them to say deal. This is the same team that declined to trade Batum for the 4th pick (rumors or actuality), though I guess them wanting to save money and not be big spenders in this new CBA may make the trade for James, who is still on his rookie scale contract, a little more attractive.

Here's a crazy one to get this thread started...

Would have to be a deadline deal with Dwight remaining with the Magic:

NJ sends:
Brook Lopez
Johan Petro
Shawne Williams
Damion James

Portland sends:
Nicolas Batum
Nolan Smith

Utah sends:
Paul Millsap
Enes Kanter

NJ receives:
Paul Millsap
Nicolas Batum

Portland receives:
Enes Kanter
Damion James

Utah receives:
Brook Lopez
Nolan Smith
Shawne Williams
Johan Petro

I still believe we need a point forward type of player at the 3. I don't like Marshon starting for us unless he starts to learn to play-off ball (meaning cutting, slashing, going through screens, etc.) and he needs to learn how to defend. He needs to learn to man-defense, relax and play physical at the right times. He is mentality on both end of the court is to make a play which is perfect for a 6th man. He would best fit on any team as a second unit or the player you build around.

As for the 3-spot, I still want AK47. This guy can actually dribble the ball to take pressure off D-Will and he fits very well as a forward for both Lopez(3-Spot) and Dwight(4-Spot).

Somehow I don't know if Portland would really want to do that.

I think they would jump on that. Utah as well.

I'm not so sure from our perspective, but it makes some sense.

I'd love to do that trade. I love Batum's game, and Millsap is a beast, definitely better than Lopez imo (with all respect to Lopez, I'm sure everyone finally realizes how much of an impact he made for this team).

Strictly looking at it from our perspective, that's a good deal. And we get rid of Petro and his contract, which is by far the most attractive part of that deal.

I don't think Millsap is better then Lopez in the least and Brook likely hasn't hit his ceiling, but Millsap is a very good player as is Batum and both would be great fits with Dwight.

We could go BPA with our pick or put together another package to form a true Big 3 on draft night or the offseason.

Eh, I might be underrating Lopez, or overrating Millsap, but to me, Millsap is better on both the boards and on defense. And I'm thinking about our team right now, and who would help us more, and although Brook is a better scorer, I think our defense is a bigger problem, because we've been putting up points lately, we just can't stop anybody.

And Millsap, if given 30-something mpg, is a very efficient, 15+ ppg scorer, enough of a post presence to take pressure away from our other players.

Millsap is a very nice all around player, but he's not exactly what you're making him out to be in your last sentence.

He works well in complete lineups where there isn't a ton of pressure on him from the defense so he can free flow all over the court and do his thing with a relatively low usage rate.

You sub Millsap in Lopez's place on that 12 win team we probably win literally 7 or 8 games that season.

I don't care what his fit would be for this year or how he would help us get wins this year though, I am doing this trade with all eyes on the prize and he would be a great fit with Dwight.

I know Howard and Williams want to win now with quality all around them but whatever happens we have to leave the 2012 draft with Kidd-Gilchrist. He is the perfect 3 to fit along with Williams, Brooks and Howard.

Kidd-Gilchrist is a quality defender, great glue guy and athletic as hell.

I don't think our pick will get us anyway near MKG so we need to move up because I think we will be a 8-14 range pick.

Obviously if I was picking 1st Davis would be the choice but were not getting 1st overall.

I have no idea of the value of picks so no idea what it would take to get the say 4th pick overall, maybe use Lopez somehow and offer our 2012 & Houston pick. I just don't know but drafting MKG is a dream to me.

Maybe work a deal with Lopez and picks to bring back a PF who would suit playing with Howard in the deal also??

Like I said I'm bad with trades and draft picks but just throwing it out there.

My ideal scenario is if we can get Howard in free agency, use Lopez to acquire Gay or J. Smith, hopefully Josh Smith moreso. I think Gay is better, and I think he's a very good player, but J. Smith plays PF too, and him and Howard together = block party.

What would be the offer for J. Smith? Lopez and 2012 pick?

Yeah I would guess so.

It seems like a possibility because I've heard Smith's name thrown around in trade rumors for the last few years now, and because of that recent article that said the Hawks are looking for a center.

As a Hawk fan, I would consider that if it were a top 5 pick. And I'm sure you know Smith and Dwight have been friends since childhood so that wouldn't hurt your chances at D12.

You're not getting Brook Lopez and a top five pick for Josh Smith. Get that idea out of your head right now.

In addition, the Nets cannot afford Josh Smith and still have the cap space for Dwight and Deron so don't even bother Nets fans, unless it happened at the trade deadline next year when the team can use the 150% rule.

Not giving up a top 5 pick for J-Smoove, not in a century would anybody do that. If it was Horford then we'll be listening.
