Pick your power forward
It seems to me that Lopez and Humphries are really both power forwards. IMO humphries might be the better of the two in terms of role player. However, if paired with someone like Dalembert, Lopez becomes a dominant 4.
Yes Lopez is a 7 footer, but he seems able to guard the 4 spot and I don't see many pfs that can guard him.
IMO the BEST trade Nets could make in the off season is some deal based on Humphries for Cousins.
On the flip side, Lopez, being a 7 footer is a better trade chip. Moving Lopez also means that you have a prototypical guy at the 4, and positions 1 and 3 are covered via opt-ins.
keeping both would make sense to some degree since Kris is a plus rebounder and Lopez make up for his deficiencies by being a good scorer, however neither really jumps out as a true advantage type of player. It would be like when the Sonics had Ray and Rashard with a front court of Jerome James, Reggie Evans and Danny Fortson.
Of course, the last option is get rid of both, trade them for different pieces.

Re: Pick your power forward
Kings got rid of a coach to keep Cousins, no way they trade him. You just don't trade that kind of a player because of his personal flaws, when he's a beast at what he gets paid for. I have no problem keep Humphries and Lopez(as if we have a choice), but its going to be entertaining to see what the Nets do during the off-season and draft night.

Lopez is not a PF and I'd prefer someone like Garnett to be our PF instead of Humphries.

no such trade exists....
lopez has to be the clear answer. humphries would be best suited coming off the bench.

No to all of the above.

Note to lurkers, he is not a Nets fan.

Re: Pick your power forward
Lopez really isn't a power forward he's a center... I have no clue why his rebounding has continued to regress each year he's been in the league (okay I lied I do have a few theories...) but If he can get his rebounding back to LaMarcus Aldridge level bad instead of Andrea Bargnani level bad his rebounding won't be a problem.

to the first item, I think in a half court offense, which is what AJ wants, going big would be viable.
to the second: when I say humphries based deal, I am thinking something like Humph + brooks + pick for couz. I did not want to make this a proposed trade thread, or a repeat of the GM thread. the point was I don't see how Lopez, who plays like a power forward being a 7 footer, and Kris who has been producing numbers if nothing else is too expensive to be a back up for the nets. Are you really paying 8 mil for a bench player? Would Nets REALLY pay more than the full midlevel for Kris? Can't imagine a team like Pistons or Pacers NOT offering him that sort of deal. Even the Celtics could theoretically make an offer exceeding the Nets buying price.

Re: Pick your power forward
Keeping Hump will have a lot to do with draft night and trades before free agency, along with other free agents.
If we land a top 3 pick and make a splashy move with it on draft night, we'll be above the cap considering all cap holds anyway and then will likely just go over it with Bird Rights and resign or at least S&T everyone, so then maybe he will be a $6 or $7 mill a year first big off the bench that a lot of strong playoff teams have on their roster.
If we don't make any major moves he is probably once again the fallback plan if we strike out in other areas.

This.
How ISN'T Anthony Davis a great complement to Lopez? His speed, weakside shot-blocking and plus-rebounding all shore up Brook's deficiencies. And I don't care what people think about his lean frame; he's ready to be an impact bigman (I'm thinking 10/10/3/2/3) right away.
Now, if we don't win the lottery, then that's a different story. I don't love pairing Lopez with Drummond, and though I am a Jayhawk through and through, I have always felt that Robinson was a reach in the top 3, where some draft sites have him slated. If we surrender the pick, we need to keep Kris at a reasonable price (3 yrs, $23mil or thereabouts), or pry away one of the many young soon-to-be RFA bigmen fom their current teams. Heading the list is for me Jason Thompson, but there are tons of other guys whose teams might blink if we made an aggressive offer.

Re: Pick your power forward
First: Lopez >>>> Humphries
Second... While I like Humphries, I don't think he;s a starter on a contender. I prefer Garnett even at this stage of his career.

Re: Pick your power forward
Jason Thompson is trashola. What's with the weird reaches like that?

JT is not trash. 6'11 dudes with refined offensive skill sets and above-average rebounding ability don't grow on trees.
He's not all that compatible with Jog DMC, but that could be a plus for us. SAC has too many young bigmen to develop, and I don't see them matching if we signed Jason to a Channing Frye-type of offer sheet (say, 5 years, $24mil). He was practically a double-double machine before Cousins arrived, and is still only 25; he could be a valuable asset.
Don't get me wrong, I'd still prefer the smaller Humphries. And if we could keep Brook and get Dwight, HECK, that's best of all. But JT isn't a bad bargain basement buy. Realize that we may have to look pretty far down the rabbit hole if things go sideways this summer. Young PF/Cs like Omer Asik, Ian Mahinmi, Darrell Arthur, Marreese Speights and Net-killer Ersan Ilyasova should all get a long look as part of Plan C.

So has he looked good doing it or are you just seeing the stats?
I haven't seen a ton of Sacto this year and it's been lately that he's beasting, I was surprised by the game logs, big numbers.
But I ask because he's done this in the past with very little impact and looked awful and lost doing it if you watched the Kings.
I honestly don't know.
Have you seen them a lot this year?
I saw a number of Kings games towards the beginning of the season and then again when Cuz had that little breakout with the hot streak, but I've barely seen them the last month.

No, I haven't see a ton of him, or really any team outside of the Nets, Bulls, Mavs and Heat, this season. I have seen him in games alongside DeMarcus Cousins, and due to footspeed it just doesn't work. DMC needs a livewire PF next to him, a la Josh Smith, to cover up his lack of defensive effort.

Well Thompson is actually very mobile so now I'm confused.

Re: Pick your power forward
I liked Thompson when he first came into the league he displayed a very unique ability to handle the ball on the break like a guard which made me think he could develop into a devastating off the dribble player (for a power forward)... For whatever reason his game just never progressed though...
Thompson would be a good player off the bench but I dan't see him being a starter on a good / playoff team.

My thoughts exactly.
I remember the days of yore when many were calling him the steal of the draft.

Re: Pick your power forward
If you guys land on the number 1 pick what would be your thoughts on dealing the pick for Lamarcus Aldridge? He'd be beastly next to Deron it seems. I come in peace just thought I'd inquire/ get some feedback.
