Humphries Money

Post#1 » by 2Mas » Tue Mar 20, 2012 9:53 pm

Hey nets fans, I got a question about Humps salary. How much do you think you guys will offer next year to keep him around? I like him a lot & think he can really help the Celtics, where i'm hoping he'll sign. He's making what 7 or 8 mil this year? Figure if Boston offers 30 for 3 years he'd take it?

What's the price for Hump & where does he fit in your future plans?

Yeah, he'd look good alongside Rajon, and at 3/30, you would beat all offers IMO. 3/23 is about as high as I'm comfortable with the Nets bidding. Of course, if we whiff in FA again, I'd rather re-up him sooner than later, on a front-loaded 5-year deal. Something like $10.5mil in '12-'13, then 9 - 8.25 - 7.5 - 6.75, for a total of $42mil (maybe a player option in the last year). That's the most I can see us paying for a loyal but limited provisional starter / supersub.

Well I know he's gonna be over paid but damn Kwame got a 1yr 7mil deal. Bigs are in demand so their price goes sky high. I'll take him for 3 years 24mil easy. Athletic big who can rebound. Why aren't you guys into him?

A fringe-starter is not something you spend on in a rebuild. Nets can ill-afford to keep him long term. Best thing to do is to s&t him for an expiring contract and a prospect/pick.

Celtics SHOULD NOT want Humphries either. He is not a build around guy...
Teams who should be offering expiring players and prospects/picks would be:
Magic: Redick, Clark, draft pick
Dwight gets a real PF to help him out inside, control the boards and control the game

Bobcats: Maggette and a couple 2nd rounders
Humphries might be expensive, but they have a lot of yuong talent and Kris would mean extra possessions for the team as they develop their guys. They can have his deal end before they have to extend Kemba/BB

Pistons: If Maxiel opts in and Will bynum plus a well protected pick
Kris compliments Monroe well, good half court duo, add in their pick and maybe they actually do something

Spurs: Captain Jack and a first or Blair. Spurs makes the most sense to me since Humph seems like a Popovic type guy. Jackson would be again going back to a former team.

Because he's a bench player being forced to play starter minutes because of our abysmal roster.

humpries is a great double double player, but for the 8-10 million realistically he isnt a game changing power forward so i would have to agree with everyone who says he is a perfect 1st big off the bench on a contending team.

he either re-ups in new jersey or i can see sacramento signing him and putting him beside demarcus

As a Celtics fan myself, I can also see the appeal in a player like Humphries. The Celtics start Brandon Bass and KG, and I always wonder what'd happen if you'd swap a player like Bass for a player like Humphries. Seriously, it's painful to watch the C's get outrebounded by 20+ rebounds a game, and the reason why is we have no players who know how to friggin' jump. Humphries rebounds well (even though he doesn't always box out his man) and he hustles for loose balls like no Celts big could be bothered too. C's lineup is greatly in need of an energy player, and it could be Humphries, but I'd agree it'd have to be for the right price. I've seen some Nets games too, and Humphries is seemingly always either looking to set a pick at the top of the key or looking for the ball in the post. He could be a very effective pick and roll player. He doesn't seem like he shoots as many long jumpers as he used to either, and he has improved his free throw rate and percentage. He has also added a couple more post moves this year...His defense isn't anything special, but the anecdotal evidence of the last two seasons seems to portray him as a pretty effective player. I do agree that he'd thrive playing alongside a dominant center, which is something the C's certainly could never offer him...

He's one of the easier guys in the league to evaluate. What he has and doesn't have is very clear playing a big role in out bare cupboard

If you need him solely for the purpose of rebounding & scoring easy buckets, then he's great. Outside of that, he doesn't bring much. He's can't create his own shot, and his defense is not very good. I could see him working well on the Celtics, but not if they plan on rebuilding next year. In my opinion, when rebuilding, you have to get the stars first. You can't let you cap get filled with role players preventing you from improving.

His market value will be interesting. He'll fetch at least the full mid-level exception. I'm not sure any contending teams will have the cap space to offer him more, and as I said, I don't think he makes sense for a rebuilding team to sign. There could be a S&T market for him, but that remains TBD. I think he'lwind up with a 4 year/$30mil type deal. I hope it's not with the Nets, because we need to upgrade our frontcourt. We can't stay with the status quo.
