COULD THE NETS OFFER A PACKAGE FOR JOSH SMITH ON DRAFT DAY?

With the way the nets are playing (4th worst record in the league), it's a no brainer that they're tanking for the remainder of the season. That might give them a better chance at landing a top 3 pick in the upcoming draft (that pick was sent to Portland but protected 1-3). It's a high risk high reward strategy.
The question is now... Will Gerald Wallace opt-in or opt-out ? We have seen this where players at his age (30) will opt-out the final year of their contract in order to secure a longer guaranteed contract. Thus instead of 11 mil for 12-13, risk of injury, and a brutal drop off in 13-14... He might get around 7 mil/year on a 4 year contract.
I'm wondering if the Nets front office could package him on a sign and trade for Josh Smith; something like Gerald Wallace + Jordan Williams + 2013 draft pick... The move could provide financial flexibility for the Hawks. That would certainly allow them to go after a legit center. (Al Horford is true PF)... Josh Smith would be an instant fan favorite in Brooklyn.
Speaking of centers... I would not mind a sign a trade package of Brook Lopez for Josh Smith either; something like Brook Lopez + Damion James... That could give the nets an nice line-up of Smith & Wallace at forwards spots; a really havoc-wrecking 2 headed monster. That could entice Deron Williams to stay put. And give some thoughts to a missing piece down in Orlando to consider playing with 2 of his friends (Smith and Williams).
Another intriguing signing could be Javale McGee. We will have enough cap room to make a run at him against the Nuggets. Pairing up McGee and Lopez (if he can stay healthy) would make a long mean frontcourt (Something that gave DWill fits back in Utah vs the Lakers). With that move, then nets could still try a package for Smith. Humphries, Wallace... They have lots of trade pieces...
For some reason, I feel like the Nets are in for an interesting summer. Now imagine they win the lottery...
What do you think?

I LOVE CAPITAL LETTERS!!!

No but seriously, 2nd or 3rd overall pick I think they would seriously consider, but you're certainly not getting Gerald Wallace in addition.
It would probably look like the pick, Farmar if he picks up his option, Petro and Jordan Williams for Smith.
Although you never know, this front office has already proven themselves to unnecessarily overpay through the teeth, so maybe you'll be able to swindle us into throwing in Crash.

I'm a huge Lopez homer, but I've always agreed that a Lopez for Smith deal makes sense for both teams. It would hurt to see him tear it up in a Hawks uniform, but this would be for the best.

How does a lopez for smith deal make sense for the nets?
Smith is not a center. Hell he really isn't a pf. He is more of a small forward.
So we loose a star center for a sf. that would be great if we had a center waiting to replace lopez. but we don't. unless you like shelden williams as our started for the rest of his career.
stupid

Smith is freakishly athletic, which is why he looks like he's a SF sometimes, but he's a pretty legit PF.
And no center? It's like free agency or trades don't exist...

Yeah...uh Sharcm, I'd hate to break it to you buddy but you can actually sign and/or trade for another center.
Also, Smith impacts the game more than Lopez does.

I hope for your sake you meant "starting" and not star center.

The real answer is a definitive no.
Why? Because the only players on the Nets roster eligible to be traded on draft day are Morrow, Petro, Brooks & Jordan Williams. All 4 would have to be traded just to make the trade legal under the cap.
Could the teams agree to the structure of a deal that is executed in the new league year? Sure. It can't be officially announced though.

If it takes the top 3 pick and the HOU pick I'd do it. Plus who ever to match.
D-Will
Brooks
Crash
Smooth
Lopez
Is a legit starting 5 that would no doubt be playoff bound barring another crazy injury bug. If we're gonna trade Lopez for Smith we better have a backup plan for C.
