Garnett vs. Duncan

As fantastical as it is to talk about either of these first-ballot HoFers coming to New Jersey, the odds are probably better than Anthony Davis of Dwight Howard coming, at this point.
Both happen to be UNrestricted free agents this summer; while loyalty and familiarity will surely be factors in their decision making, we could offer an unique opportunity. IF we had our pick of either of these two guys, which would you want?

At this point, KG. He's just better on either end than Duncan.
And I think it would be easier to get KG to leave Boston than to get Duncan to leave SA, obviously.

How do you figure that? KG acted like a hormonal 16 year old girl when the Celtics traded Perkins. So I dont see it being any easier to get KG out of Boston then it would be to get Duncan out of SA. That being said, I wonder if the Nets would look at signing Nash IF Deron decides to sign elsewhere. Hes looking for a three year deal and I think Nash, Brooks, Wallace, Lopez, Hump, and one other free agent (KG as you mentioned) can make a serious run. Keeping Morrow and Green coming off the bench provides some good offense, but defensively would be a liability. One more decent 4 or 5 would be a must.

Because you might as well rename the Spurs the "San Antonio Tim Duncans". He is their franchise. I don't see him not retiring as a Spur.
The Celtics run seems to be over, and Ainge seems to be leaning towards blowing it up. I think KG leaving this summer is likely.

If Deron walks, the unique opportunity we are offering is...? If he stays, I think we'd be a suitor for Kevin Garnett.

I'd take KG, he's been terrific this year whereas TD's decline although unfortunate is happening right before our eyes. How KG's owned the guys like Love, Howard and Bosh is incredible and shows how dominant he still is on the defensive and that could really help us especially if we keep Brook.
Lopez
KG
Crash/Green
Brooks/Morrow
Deron
That's a nice line-up to start off with, then if needed try to find suitors for Lopez/Brooks in a trade to improve.

All good points. I tend to agree that KG would be the more likely FA acquisition, and it has nothing to do with either of the players; free agency is a two-way street. SAS seems almost dead-set on keeping Timmy until the day he retires. Ainge has made it quite clear that he'd like to revamp the entire lineup this offseason. Sure, he'd keep Allen and Garnett at ringchaser rates; but I doubt he'll put up a fight if a bidding war breaks out for either of their services.
To me, it boils down to this: I believe that while Duncan would be a better MENTOR to padawan Lopez, Garnett would be a better COMPLEMENT. Footspeed, weakside defense, health and attitude all point to Kevin as a better fit next to Brook.

I mistakenly voted for Duncan without knowing that this was about who do you want for the Nets next season. Of course, I'd rather have Garnett.

if we get a top 3 pick and draft and get a young center than with the other pick take a kid like Perry Jones (think that's his name) I'd try to sign both Duncan and Garnett. Slide Duncan to the center position. I'd let those two kids learn from those all-time great for a couple of years.

I was thinking the same thing about Nash the other day.

I don't see why either Garnett or Duncan would ever want to come to the Nets. Makes no sense for either one of them. Duncan isn't leaving San Antonio, and if Garnett left Boston, he would want to go to an experienced team that has a chance at a tittle.

I didn't read the actual post, I just voted based on the thread title, I thought this was another all time KG vs Duncan debate.

I understand your position, but health concerns aside, aren't we just a move away from making some noise? I think a guy like KG would embrace the opportunity, and I feel that our FO will make some moves to increase our capspace to give him the kind of payday he'll be expecting (3 years, $24mil?).
