I'd do this, but only as a last resort. As in, Petro is unmoveable any other way, we have no one else interested in coming here (Nash, Gordon) and we'd have Deron, Wallace and Lopez secured.

well i dont think gordon comes here cause i think NO would match a max offer to him

i dont really think nash would be interested in either backing up or sharing a backcourt with williams, regardless of speculation and articles. i think he goes to toronto.

we are going to match any lopez offer im sure, and if dwill doesnt come back i dont care anymore cause were f'd.

so year, basically i think those are safe assumptions -- other then moving petro otherwsie. im sure you can get creative there... but this would give us some talent in martin on a 1 year deal. if farmat opts out he could round out our team nicely..

If the goal is 2013 8 figure cap this is the type of deal we need to do.

I'm not a huge Martin fan, but he makes a lot of sense in between Deron and Crash.

This deal has been talked about a lot for what it's worth.

Martin is tempting, but...you don't make this trade simply for cap reasons. When you make a trade for cap reasons, you make it under the assumption that the guy you're getting won't be here next year.

Martin's cap hold will be HUGE in the off-season, so for us to have any kind of cap room for Dwight, it would mean us renouncing his rights. So we basically gave up Brooks for a one-year rental of Martin (who, ironically is just as, if not more injury prone than Crash, the player that the OP loves to bash for his unavailability).

We're better off letting Morrow and Petro expire and keeping Brooks for next year. Deal Morrow and Petro for someone who can help us this year, but can we please stop giving away what little assets we have for one-year rentals?

It's not that simple Speedy.

We'd still have to ship Lopez in some form if we go for Dwight in free agency or partial S&T, so Martin can then work out a smaller 3 year extension that is more fair, keeping him and getting Dwight, or Josh Smith, or Bynum, etc.

Deron isn't signing up for another lotto team or fringe 8 seed even if the ultimate goal is Dwight and 5 to 8 years of high level contention.

Martin at least helps us legitimize a playoff run this year and if this is all done properly can be a long term solution.

That's why I said it's "tempting".

I thought the intention of Petro's scenario is that come next off-season, that renouncing Martin would allow us to sign Dwight. Did I get that wrong?

We can't sign Dwight without losing Lopez no matter what.

i wasnt intending it as a pure cap move.... but as a bit of the best of both worlds.

we stay competitive now, keep dwill happy, and then next year still maintain cap room.

i have no issue at all renting martin for 1 season. i dont think brooks is really an asset either... i cant imagine many teams would be interested in him.

I wouldn't do that.
I like Marshon's game and think he could become a good player.

If you do this trade then you're without a SG after this year for an injury prone player in Martin as a rental. Not worth it...

We have no reason to do this after picking up Lamb.
