PF/defensive big options?

Post#1 » by PetroNet » Mon Jul 2, 2012 10:50 pm

What are we looking at for options at PF or as a defensive big?

I'm all for using part of one of our exceptions on Camby.

Also a sign and trade of some combo of hump/brooks/1st could garner a good big on a longer contract.

who is out there? what about hump+? for brand?

Since when is Brand a defensive big? This is 2012, not 2006.

Humphries, Brooks, and a 1st could garner what big? Seriously, name one.

If you want Camby, that means you don't want anyone else. Because Teletovic isn't taking part of the mle, along with Camby and Green.

Stay with Humphries and hope for the best is the best the Nets can do. However, expect a trade for Scola or Boozer in the coming days. If either of those happen, hope that scoring 120 points a game will do it, because that team is getting 118 scored on them.

If you want a defensive big you do not want Marcus Camby. Brand is owed a gargantuan $16+ million, good look finding the contracts to send out in order to acquire him...

I'd look at Kenyon Martin if you want someone on the cheap (plus could you imagine if Kidd and Kenyon both sign with the Nets? Talk about epic nostalgia!)

My gut instinct tells me that the Nets are going to end up re-inking Humphries AND signing Teletovic. I don't know enough about Teletovic to comment on whether or not he deserves the full MLE but that alone concerns me...

My guess is the MLE for Teletovic & resigning Hump with Bird rights. We'll just have to outscore opponents.

Camby would be ideal for the $3.1mil trade exception.

guys dont forget gerald wallace is still a very good defender and lopez averages 2 blocks a game... who knows how hard lopez is working this summer, he has all the tools as a 23 year old 7'1 280 lb center in this league to be a stopper inside. lets just hope he puts in the work needed this offseason.

KEN-YON MARTIN! *clap clap clap clap clap clap* KEN-YON MARTIN!

Shell of his former self, but I still love me some Kenyon =(

Really not a lot of cheap options out there. I do think this will end up being Hump resigned + Teletovic. Also, don't kill me....but Magic Randolph. Sign him and tell him...you're a PF. You don't need to be super bulky, but gain 10 lbs or so, run the floor and block anything that gets close to the rim.

I think we are still in possession of our TE (one for 3M one for less than that). Dejuan Blair, who was rumored to be available around draft time for salary dump, anyone?

I would be fine with hump back and teletovic as the back up pf. That's fine with me. So we would have a starting five of dwill, Johnson, Wallace, hump and Lopez. With a a bench of kidd, Brooks, green, and teletovic. And a filler center

If they are looking to get the best player possible I like the idea of Millsap banging around inside.

Brooks and a first for Millsap (and renounce Hump)?

If not Kenyon wouldn't be a bad complement to this roster assuming they had another alternative since he can't play a lot of minutes (Teletovic).

Key to me is keeping $5M in expiring money.

What would be the point of renouncing Humphries? The team is still massively over the cap.

Where are you getting this 5 million in expiring money, as well?

Probably just wrong about everything because I don't pay attention to most of the rules but here was the thinking. Feel free to let me know what the reality is.

In one of Berger's AM articles he had the Nets cap # adding up to $59M after the JJ trade. Thinking back now I think he had Humphries or Green in there and not Stevenson so I probably already started with a bad number. Continuing on I was basically assuming we were less than 8M over the cap right now, and thus renouncing Hump or trading him would be allow us to take on the difference in salary for Millsap - which is all useless speculation because I doubt he could be had that cheaply anyway.

Re: the $5M expiring that's a lot more straightforward. I'm assuming Brook will end up around 10M/year. Brooks is 1.2M. If we have expiring contracts worth $5M we can match Dwight's salary in a trade at the deadline without adding to their cap.

I'm all for Camby. Kenyon Martin would be nice too, but then we also need a backup center.

The number you started with was incorrect. It's about 69 million after the trade. Renouncing Humphries will only open up about 3 million of space, WITHOUT Lopez even getting his contract and just having his caphold there.

The Nets won't have any expirings at all unless Kris Humphries is sign-and-traded for one.

Do the Lakers have the bird rights to Jordan Hill? You could offer him a 3 year/11 million contract to him and have the Lakers sign-and-trade him in exchange for the last second round pick the Nets have for the next 5 years. Overpay him in order to get the Lakers to not match, and he still has some upside to hopefully become a first big off the bench-kind of guy.

I can't think of anyone else that might be willing to sign-and-trade a guy to the Nets so the Nets could get him under the 3 million TPE.

Or Maybe Hump S&T for Warrick and Dudley(oh the irony!)?

F*** Dudley. Once Nash leaves he'll be exposed and he'll be left making PSA commercials.
