Backup C?

We need a good backup C enough of the wings. I liked Green but I would much rather go after a backup C (gonna really miss those dunks). We can't go into next year with a 3 big rotation of Tele, Lopez, and Evans. We need a guy like Mahimi (sp?) isn't he a FA? Add him to this team and I'm happy (unless we still swing Dwight). Someone who is a true C that can rebound, block a few shots, and finish easy dunks is a necessity.
Who should we target as the backup C?

Why isn't Humphries included in there? Even if he isn't signed long term, and just another 1 year deal, I think he's coming back.
Humphries/Tele
Lopez/Evans

The Nets do not have anywhere near the cap or the exceptions to get Speights. You're looking at vet min guys if Humphries isn't re-signed.

Honestly I would be fine with shelden williams coming back. He was a good defender. can rebound and he would be really cheap. remember at this point they don't have a real back up pg either. Giving teletovic the full mid level just reduced who we could sign as a back up point guard. If kidd won't take the smaller exception then we need someone that will. We can sign shelden out right because I believe they have bird rights on him still.
so they should spend any other money on a back up pg and re-sign williams as the back up center.

whats wrong with shelden williams? granted he was in over his head starting and getting 25-30 minutes last year, but he is a great option as a backup imo.
tough as nails, decent defender and rebounder, great team guy.

I'm OK with Shelden. At least he tries to rebound and defend.
P.S.
... and the innovator of the "face dunk"...

I'd also be okay with Shelden, as long as he's never on the court at the same time with Evans.

Shelden Williams really isn't good...at all. I mean, I wouldn't mind bringing him in off the bench, because whatever, the guy's got heart, and he'll come really cheap, which is all that we can afford. But he doesn't make the team better...if anything, he makes us worse.
He has no hands, no offensive skill whatsoever, can't rebound for **** (never boxes out, and can't catch the ball), and is really just an average defender at best. He does well man to man, but his help defense is quite poor, and he frequently gives up dumb and-1s.

If he makes us worse then why would you be OK with having him on the team in any way? I don't follow the logic?

what back up center can defense, rebound, score, finish, has great hands plays excellent man to man and help defense and makes his team better?
if that player exsisted, he wouldnt be a backup. these guys are role players for a reason

Is Hilton Armstrong part of our SL team? I know he was trying out at one point. I know they have Foote in there, but that dude is terrible.

I like Shelden. Solid defender, takes a charge, good screener, can hit his FT's. Occasionally hits a jump shot. Intelligent and hard working. Could do a lot worse than him as a backup.

^He's a 10th/11th man kind of guy. Shouldn't go for him if we can find someone better for a similar price. By saying that, I don't even think there's anybody out there
