GET HYPED.

NOT ONLY CAN TOKO CATCH THE BASKETBALL:

BUT HE CAN EXECUTE A SIMPLE DRIBBLE MOVE:

While these may seem like standard basketball maneuvers to some, given the inability of recent Nets players to successfully perform these feats, I implore that these actions not be taken for granted.

What's his contract situation? Are we able to sign him as early as next season?

Relatively small buyout (300K). If there's room on the roster he'll probably be here.

I don't know what his status for next year is but he has a buyout of roughly $300,000 for this year. Given that he begged the Nets to be on the Summer League team and has proven to have some talent / potential I would bring him over this year if possible... It seems like he genuinely wants "it" and is willing to put in the hard work to carve out a name for himself in the league.

I like the way he slashes to the basket. Seems like a solid passer and defender as well. Hope he makes the roster.

Not going to get too hyped over summer league, but he looks pretty good. He also made a few nice passes in the previous game vs Boston.

(I am really disappointed in you guys by the way... I thought that since the Nets have officially moved to New York we were all going to start hyping up all of our fringe NBA players / late draft picks to unreasonably homerific levels... :-( a la other New York fanbases)

embarrassed to admit ive watched the games and i think hes a good system player with some real talent. he makes quick, smart passes and hes constantly moving, cutting through, setting down screens, hitting the offensive glass. plus he sprints the floor every single time. and when he does have the ball, he shows some ball-handling ability and creative footwork. more than any of that though, he looks damn huge out there. theres something about his frame, broad shouldered, thick, whatever you wanna call it, despite being only 6'9, he looks WAY bigger than almost every 3 and 4 in the summer league. should definitely make the team. not so sure about marshon at this point though. :)

He's got the tools, he's just got to apply them at the NBA level. I think he can at least be a good bench player right now. He isn't going to have much pressure on him to perform and hopefully that gives him a chance to develop his game, while giving us a boost from a bench that looks pretty tame right now.

I haven't seen this guy play, how is he different from summer league standout Horner?

The Tornike Shengelia HYPE Thread.

He's only 20 years old and seems to be getting better every game.

I'm really impressed by his passing but he could be a very good defender. He moves his feet really well & stays in front of guards with ease, puts the body on the line for charges as well.

Looking more & more like Bogdanovic will be our back up SG of the future & Shengelia our back up SF. Not bad for 2nd round picks.

Did anyone see Shengelia in the first half yesterday grab the defensive rebound, then dribble the length, drive to the basket, the kick it out to to a wide open Net for the easy two pointer?

He looks like he has great tools but has a very poor jump shot. At the minute he's a hard working, good defender who slashes to the rim.

Would be solid depth and can only get better.

Shengelia again impresses for Nets

1:47 AM, July 12, 2012 ι By TIM BONTEMPS

Here are some thoughts from the Nets’ 79-71 loss to the 76ers Wednesday afternoon, dropping Brooklyn to 0-3 in this year’s Orlando Summer League play:

- Since practice for summer league began last Thursday, Tornike Shengelia has consistently been one of the team’s most impressive players. That trend didn’t change Wednesday, when Shengelia entered the starting lineup for the first time.

Inserted into the lineup at small forward, he had a terrific performance, finishing with 17 points, six rebounds and two assists and earning even more plaudits from Nets coach Avery Johnson.

“He was outstanding,” Johnson said. “He was really good. He’s having a good summer league, and he had a good camp. He’s getting better and better and we think he has a chance to be a really solid NBA three with versatility.”

The Nets were open about the fact that Shengelia was expected to spend next season, at least, overseas when they drafted him. But after he pushed to come over and prove himself to Johnson and the rest of the Nets hierarchy, he has a shot to make the roster.

“We’re gonna have that conversation,” Johnson said.

- Johnson was also pleased with how the entire starting five – Tyshawn Taylor, MarShon Brooks, Shengelia, Bryant Dunston and Jeff Foote – played during the first quarter, when the Nets jumped out to an early lead.

“I thought just our whole starting team [did well],” he said. “I thought Taylor did a nice job running the team, I thought MarShon did a nice job, Toko, Dunston and Foote. I thought that group did a good job.

“We lost a little bit of momentum in the third quarter, but, again, I thought that group did us a better chance. We’ll see what the group does tomorrow, but hopefully we’ll be able to start well and finish well.”

- After sitting out of Wednesday’s game as a maintenance day, Al Thornton will return to the starting lineup Thursday, and MarShon Brooks will get the day off.

It's clear Avery likes him and with the news of Green signing with the Pacers it looks like we is in with a real shot on our team as back up SF with limited minutes.

lol, commentator at the summer league game just said that Lebron James is the only other player Shengeila's size who has the offense skills he has...

they also said his crossover is reminiscent of allen iverson

lol yea, some of the stuff he was saying was just embarrassing.

Anyway, I'm still very impressed with Toko. Has a good feel and IQ for the game, does most of the important things right, and thats a huge plus. He needs to improve his jumper, and needs to cut down on the turnovers (a little too aggressive at times), but aside from that, I really don't see any big flaws in his game. Plays high energy D, plays hard at both ends of the floor, has very impressive handles for his size, very good passer, good drive to the basket, active on the glass and seems to be a versatile player overall. On the summer league commentary, they kept saying that he's 6' 9", but at draft combine, he was measured at 6' 9" 1/2. So he's almost 6' 10".

Shengelia's ceiling is Toni Kukoc with Gerald Wallace defense.
