hey have you guys heard anything on a possible backup center? obviously we need someone like reggie evans but closer to 7 foot. any rumors? suggestions?
as our roster stands right now though we already have 12 under contract. are we just planning on rolling with an undersized 2nd unit?

Washington Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld announced today that the team has waived forward Andray Blatche and has designated him as the team's amnesty player. NBA.com
If Blatche clears waivers....Brooklyn please sign him up! He is only 25 years old. His numbers were good in 2010-2011 17pts 8rebs 1.5 stls. He had too much pressure to be the go to guy in 2011-2012. The Wiz were hoping for him to step up to be the main guy on the team. He would be great off the bench for us. We could use him at 4 and 5.
Marc Stein: In other waiver-wire news, NBA teams notified this evening that Josh Childress has cleared waivers and is now an unrestricted free agent Twitter
Childress cleared waivers. I dont really like him. I think he is a bum and needs to go back to Europe.

@ecentric
Well we've been hoping Dwight would make a fuss and scare everyone off + forcs the magics hand.
Now that they spurned us(possibly into forcing Dwight for Bynum) they might be stuck with the rental offers because Dwight is such a headache.
Apparently someone leaked some Dwight DM's and he hasn't even started running yet. Getting some extra rest isn't out of the question and that way he can stay away. However if all signs are pointing to a dec/jan 15 trade then I hope Lopez can focus and play his game

So far we've only heard Darko, Ryan Hollins and Nazr Mohammed come up. I figured they may be thinking about Jeff Foote too but I think they'll keep him with the Armor one more season and wait for an injury. If we ended up adding 2 of those names above I'm cool. That or 1 of those names plus Shengalia.
To be honest, we need a back up C then I say just sign the BPA that will take a minimum. Based on this roster, I can see us going with a small unit while Brook is on the bench an awful lot.

Trust me, you guys don't want Blatche. He's a lazy POS.

What about Shelden Williams? Think Deron said "absolutely do not resign stone-hands"?
I really think the Nets will resign DJames at this point b/c we haven't heard much about the SF shuffle, more about backup center. Nazr Mohammad will probably be my guess, and if something happens to Lopez I don't think Mohammad will see those minutes; I can see Kin pulling off another Okur type trade.

They are stuck with rental offers (if there really are ones) so long as D12 doesnt agree to extend anywhere else. And honestly...i could care less if Orlando trades his for one of those deal if Dwight sticks to his guns. In other words he could end up in Brooklyn by way of....LA? Hou? Other?
I would prefer it happen sooner rather than later though.
LA scares me most. I feel like they WANT to dump Bynum. For all the fan love he is getting in Orlando...I think the only reason you give up a player like that without an assurance from Dwight is because you value the guy you are giving up a whole lot less than everyone else does. You know just how bad his knees are and a giant contract going forward is foolish. Trading for Dwight as bold a move as it is...perhaps they are thinking so what? We dont want to sign Bynum anyway to his next contract...this gamble will be seen as a save face move and its Dwight who will be the bad guy if he bolts next summer so lets take a shot. best case he extends...worst case we get screwed but we dont have to suffer the PR hit when we let Bynum walk away.
Another angle that concerns me is...what if LA extends Bynum now for the purpose of giving him no choice where he gets dealt in season. Again, his value is high after his best season...sign him to sell him. If they do that...then we still have to compete with them in January.
No matter what happens here...we remain alive in the conversation until Dwight extends with another team.

Great answer Brook!
Legion Sports @MySportsLegion
Brook Lopez when asked about all the trade rumors: "I read a lot of comic books, and they don't mention Dwight Howard"

Re: The Official 2012 Nets Offseason Thread (Part 2)
I fear Orlando trying to soften up Dwight on LAL.
But I don't think la would ruin Kobe's last chances at a ring by trading for a possible rental or a player not ready to start the season.
Bynum would have to agree to the extension and isn't there a moratorium on a trade after an extension anyway? Also Bynum is probably testing the market like everyone else does to maximize his contract .
Does la and orl swap rental centers? Seems kind of silly, theese are monster assets here.
If I'm LA I'm trying for Dwight but if I don't like what I hear I move on. Why get greedy they are a top 3 contender. You slip up and youre going nowhere

Re: The Official 2012 Nets Offseason Thread (Part 2)
Anyone think Kobe's comments at possibly retiring at 35 have some truth? This would definitely have to impact Dwight's decision too.
