Nets speaking to Andrei Kirilenko

Billy King said the Nets have been talking with Andrei Kirilenko, who played last season for CSKA Moscow.

“He still can play,” King said of Kirilenko during a recent radio interview. “He would be a great piece to add to us, and give us more depth at the forward spot.”

The Nets only can offer Kirilenko the veteran’s minimum, while Kirilenko’s three-year pact with CSKA pays him $4 million per year.

Kirilenko’s existing deal includes an opt-out clause at the end of each season.

He's only 30 or 31 years old, so if he's healthy, he would be a steal of a pick-up IMO.

Be a superstar in your home country while making $4m per year, or be a role player and make $1.3m? Weird that that's really a choice for AK but here's hoping it is.

Not really.

For some players like Teletovic, they consider the NBA to be the best basketball league in the world and will take less money to play their and prove that they can succeed. For many players, the honor of being able to say that you competed and were successful in the NBA is greater than making more money in (what they believe to be) a lesser league.

Having AK47 on this team would be simply amazing.

I would use him at SF and PF. And then just move Humphries and Teletovic to C when Lopez is out.
But he would make our bench substantially better.

I think if we were fortunate enough to sign Kirilenko, I believe we would rotate AK47 & Wallace throughout the season to keep them both fresh.

They both play hard and pick up injuries easily so being able to limit their minutes is a huge blessing.

AK47 signing on the vet min would be one of the biggest signings of the summer.

He's going to star at the Olympics

sources say this is no go... but we will find out tomorrow. no question this would be huge. I like AK more than Wallace. And if we get Howard, he becomes even more useful. A Teletovic, Howard, AK47, BIG BABY?), frontcourt rotation is scary as hell.

nah he's a bad contract but if we're taking those back we might as well get some depth up front.

AK is not coming here, he's going to the Timberwolves.

Were there people who actually believed he'd accept the veteran's minimum?

Not sure how ND got such a definitive title out of "Several league executives believe Minnesota is pursuing free agent Andrei Kirilenko. He's no longer considering Brooklyn, sources say."

NI has his own sources within the Nets organization (and they're legit), and he said we're not getting AK-47. He has chosen Minnesota instead.

I have never rooted harder for illegal cash under the table before to be the great equalizer. AK47 would be such a phenomenal bench addition. Him and Crash on the same team in role player roles? Love it.

Oh well...time to talk to Delfino. But...I am guessing it will be James.

I'm sure Delfino can get more than the vet min, if not here but overseas. Same with Darko. It's time to start thinking....lower in the totem pole.

Come on now, roughly $1.4m versus $9m?!?

How do you compete with that?

Rubio
Roy / Shved
Kirilenko / Budinger
Love
Pekovic

That's a very good line up that could make noise in the West and clinch a playoff spot.

I'm not mad at all at Kirilenko. It will be interesting to see how long of a deal he gets because if we get Howard & it's only a 1 year AK deal, better believe he's coming to BK next year.
