Ex-Kings forward Donte Greene has agreed in principle to sign a contract with the Brooklyn Nets, a source tells Yahoo! Sports.

How long 'til he becomes the leading scorer on this team? I say 2 weeks.

I've always hated this dude... Probably more so than anything else because Kings fans overrated every single player on their team (anyone remember the Hassan Whiteside has Dwight Howard potential style threads?) but this guy has always struck me as a major tweener...

He should inject some athleticism into the team but I'm not expecting much...

Also... No more Damion James? :-(

I know a lot of Nets fans have wanted Green over the years so now they got their wish.

I like the deal. Small investment that may pay decent dividends.

Although we lack true front court players, I do like how this roster is built. There is athleticism and leadership at every position. Lot of hard nosed, no BS players. I think we will be a very fun team to watch next year.

He's a 30.4% career three point shooter. Ladies and gentleman we have officially found our new scapegoat. Keith Bogans, you are off the hook.

I don't know Jeff... If we're going to be objective its Brook Lopez's fault. If only he averaged more rebounds...

I'll repost what I said in the thread made on the Kings board.

He has the talent to be a very good player, but so far, he hasn't shown the drive at all. At his best, he can defend very well, get on a hot streak shooting, and he's always a good finisher.

But his focus waivers a lot, meaning his shot is wildly inconsistent (and sometimes his shot selection is really bad), and his defense isn't always all that great. At that point he just kind of floats around in the game, getting a couple nice dunks in transition. Some here think he's ideal as a stretch 4. I think this is wrong because he has an inconsistent jumper, and if you put him as a stretch 4 next to Lopez, I'd guess your team will just never get any rebounds ever.

He's an extremely likable guy with a great personality, but probably to a fault. He has the talent to be a very good player, but seems to be happy just being in the league, cheering on teammates from the bench. Maybe a change of scenery and getting to play with an all-world PG will help him. I have real doubts though.

Thanks for your opinion on him. I can't judge him because ive never watched him properly so its good to get some information for fans who have watched him for years.

Well, he is a good bench cheerleader. A very likable dude by all accounts.

I think he is a the classic "I will get by just on my talent alone and won't work out as hard as I should" type of player.

The thing about Greene is that he doesn't have the fire or drive to be a great player. Physically, I think he is one of the most unique players in the L. He can guard 4 positions (PG, SG, SF, PF), run and shoot the ball (when he is on a tear). But he is erratically inconsistent. You may get 2-3 good games from him each month of the season. But other than that, you just have to scratch your head and say "what are you doing Donte? Why are you keep continuing shooting when you are a bad shooter? Why do you suck this much?"

In the past, he always wanted to pattern his game to Rashard Lewis. But I don't see it. Lewis, back in his hay day, was an elite shooter, can put his back behind the basket and rebound. Greene on the other hand, is an erratic shooter, not a good post game and is a horrific rebounder considering his size.

I guess he would be ok in a transition type of system with some stability. The Kings are an uptempo team but it lacks someone who can really direct a fast break. Maybe a guy like Williams can bring the best out of Donte. Who knows?

Good luck with him. Donte can make you smile in one minute but the other minute he will have you doing the opposite.

The guy clearly has talent. So for him to be invited to camp must mean that he must have some serious deficiencies with court awareness, BBIQ, or something, cuz it seems like his talent alone should at minimum warrant some small deals with teams for a number of years.

Well, as a 14th/15th man, we have nothing to lose here. Low risk/medium reward.

The guy who said the quote "Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard" was talking about Donte Greene

i love that we have one weak defensive center on the roster. cant wait till we try to play evans and mirza at the 5 and it turns into a **** layup line. hump better be prepared to spend a lot of time at that spot.

What centers in the East are you worried about? There's Bynum and then...?

Horford has power forward size. Hibbert is SOFT (when you have that kind of size advantage you can't let old crippled Shane Battier shut you down). The Celtics run KG at center who's strictly a jumpshooter at this point in his career. Tyson Chandler can't score on his own, and Evans is no rebounding slouch.

It's not ideal but the Nets can get by with either Humphries or Evans at the center spot when Brook is on the bench.

All I can say is that he is a great guy and will get involved in your community. Don't expect much impact on the floor tho.

So we're looking at....

PG - Deron Williams/C.J. Watson/Tyshawn Taylor

SG - Joe Johnson/Marshon Brooks/Keith Bogans/Jerry Stackhouse

SF - Gerald Wallace/Donte Green/Tornike Shengelia

PF - Kris Humphries/Mirza Teletovic/Reggie Evans

C - Brook Lopez

Correct me if I'm wrong.

there are about five post scorers left in the NBA, and one of them plays for us. its rim protection and rotational defense that matters. and you have none of it with 6'8 slow footed, no vert reggies evans and mirza, whose more of a 3 than a 5. were really, really **** if brook misses any games at all.

Meh, he's pretty athletic, so he can probably be that guy that runs the break and finishes Deron's lobs. But based on what I'm reading, he needs to improve his focus, and he needs to improve his jump shot. He sounds like Gerald Wallace kind of, in the sense that he can guard 4 positions pretty well.

Not really a fan of this move, we really needed a defensive-minded backup center.

If Lopez misses 10 games with any sort of injury, we are screwed. Bynum, Garnett, Chandler, Hibbert, Nene, Noah will either score inside or outrebound Humphries/Evans who cannot play 48 minutes at C either.

I don't understand why we aren't looking to sign Chris Anderson who is available, bring back Sheldon or something. This team needs to stockpile on bigs if they learned anything from the prior seasons.

That's a good point but there aren't exactly fleet of foot centers who are plus defenders sitting out there by the dozen in free agency...

There's Darko Milicic who would qualify if he's playing a backup role, but he's likely looking for more than the veteran's minimum, there's Chris Andersen who can block shots but is actually a very poor defender, who else is out there?

Shelden Williams isn't much of a rim protector or high flyer...

I'm not against bringing in any of the players mentioned above but I think we have to have realistic expectations.

It's weird to me, the FO has to realize that we're very weak defensively in the paint? Why are they not going for big men that can defend?

Lopez/Humphries/Evans/Teletovic is an epic fail for interior defense. And Humphries and Evans are both pretty much the same thing...super hustle players that stat pad their rebounding, even at the expense of teammates.

After initially being excited about this team's chances, I'm just not happy with how they've filled out the roster. We're in for a disappointing season if this is really how the team is going to look this year. On paper, our talent says we should win 50 games, but we really might miss the playoffs with interior defense like that. Doesn't matter how much we score if we give it right back on the other end.
