Do you guys think the Nets can overtake the Knicks in popularity in the other parts of the NYC area besides BK?

Depends on the product. If they are the better team, I can see many bandwagon fans (NY area is full of them) jumping on the BK bandwagon.

Maybe not right away, but it's destined to happen by next decade.

It would also depend on how good the Knicks are as well. If both of them are regular championship contenders then it will probably remian the same.

I am not sure about destined. True the Knicks have the Dolan albatross on them but I do not know how good of an owner Prokharov and/or his staff are. Though I will say that I am admiring Prokharov's way of handling himself over Dolan who just seems more and more like an ass who doesn't give a damn as long as he plays with his band and writes romantic letters to Isiah.

Hey anything is possible...but it always depends on how good your team is and the support the team has in its own market...We took a major step in the right direction moving to Brooklyn...now its time to continue to build that fan base...Our first step is to develop the hardcore Brooklyn Nets fan...I always felt we had sort of a cult following in Jersey, which never really amounted to anything significant as far as numbers...We only hope the majority of the NJ fans follow the team to Brooklyn...
I just hope no matter what happens this year there is the same carry over to next year and so on...There is a lot of aspects that go into building a fan base and it starts and ends with our front office and how willing they are to reach all fans and potential fans...
Considering how well constructed our front office is from top to bottom, the effort that was made to put the current team together along with the coaching staff, the future is very promising...

I think your biggest helper in building that fan base will be James Dolan for the forseeable future, because IMO the Knicks and Nets appear evenly matched in the short run (I have a weird feeling of a 4-5 matchup in the playoffs between them) but what may get some fans other than the casual wanting to look good in the gear is being the alternative to a team ran by a guy that bitchslaps his fans in the face on a constant basis.

Not speaking for New York...but I saw someone with a Brooklyn Nets hat here in Jacksonville the other night. Prior to that, I'm the only one who wears any kind of Nets gear around here.

Its all depends on the next generation. If Brooklyn plays at a high level...if their appeal to young fans...the Nets can absolutely be the team here. Its not an easy task...and there is no shot they convert life long die hard Nix fans 30 years and up.
Initially they will appeal to casual fans who will root for all things NY. But building a core in a shared market comes from success and from those who are still impressionable.

I have only seen one person using NJN gear in my lifetime. Ever since the Brooklyn clothing have been available I've seen a TON of people wearing them here in the heights, downtown, bronx etc... which prompts me to say do/say this:
