WT: D-Will Asked King To Stop Waiting For Dwight

Post#1 » by NyCeEvO » Wed Oct 10, 2012 8:27 pm

Deron Williams advised general manager Billy King not to wait for Dwight Howard as the Brooklyn Nets approached the 2012 offseason.

"One thing Deron did say to me, he said, 'Please, just don't wait on Dwight. We can't wait and not have a team,'" King said during the premiere of NBA TV's "The Association: Brooklyn Nets," which will air on Oct. 16.

"The team of Brooklyn is bigger than one person. I owed it to the organization, I owed it to our fans, I owed it to Deron and the players that we have to build for Brooklyn, and we went forward and built our team."

The Nets had struggled to surround Williams with complementary pieces to remain competitive as they attempted to acquire Howard.

In the offseason, the Nets re-signed Brook Lopez, Gerald Wallace and Kris Humphries, while trading for Joe Johnson.

The Magic eventually traded Howard to the Lakers.

Makes him seem like a drama queen in that case, with how he's been going on about how hard of a decision it was and how close he was to going to Dallas...everything he did leading up to re-signing pointed to Brooklyn, and now we find out that he called JJ before he signed and asked about him coming to Brooklyn and that he was the one who told Billy King to go after other players and stop waiting for Dwight.

It's pretty obvious that he decided on re-signing for a while...unless he really is that big of a d-bag that would be prepared to make King forget about Dwight and trade for Johnson's contract, and then still leave.

I disagree therealbig3. It makes him like every other star player in the league.

Deron didn't want to wait another year to field a competitive team, the way I read it is that Deron simply didn't want to go through what he did last year.

We as fans could have put up with it if it meant getting Dwight, but with no guarantee, and from a player's perspective the win-now-at-all-costs mentality is perfectly understandable.

From what I've been able to gather Deron wanted the Brooklyn market, but not if it meant playing for a piece of outlaw team.

In general, I never think that an organization should bow down to it's star player. It seems like it always backfires.
