I was wondering, who exactly are the nets fans? is it still just New Jersey people driving up or are there new new york fans? weren't brooklyn fans fans of the knicks? thanks

Left over New Jersey fans, new fans from New York that weren't Knick fans, general Brooklyn people that weren't big fans of basketball before, fans of Jay Z, and corporations.

I can only speak for myself and what I've seen, but I've been a NEW JERSEY Nets fan my whole life, and continued to follow them to Brooklyn. It seems to me as if the majority of fans are Brooklyn fans, and not really Nets fans.....yet. People in NY and Brooklyn specifically have this deep love/loyalty/passion for Brooklyn and I think the Nets marketed themselves perfectly towards those people as it seems everything is about Brooklyn Brooklyn Brooklyn, not really the Nets. I am a Nets fan, and will always be a Nets fan. The move to Brooklyn gave this team some legitimacy that we never had in NJ, and I'm glad to finally see it. Although, I hate that tickets are ridiculously expensive. For the $40 I'm paying to sit all the way up top, I would be sitting 10 rows from the bench in NJ with some money left over. It's all good though, as we've really started to grow a fan base and a identity.

I gotta say, it's weird seeing people wearing Nets gear, even at games. I always thought being a Nets fan was more of a cult/community feeling because there weren't many of us at all.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'm from Toronto so have no idea about these things. Are there not many knick fans in brooklyn? or did they change over to nets fans, which would be weird...

you cant think of new york and new jersey as 2 completely different places....

Northern New Jersey (bergen country, hudson county, essex county) and the 5 buroughs are really one large area seperated only by 1 mile of bridge. most people who work in manhattan live out of state in NJ, CT, PA and commute. you also have alot of NJ/PA/CT transplants living in the buroughs....

its much more of a tri state area as opposed to "here is NY" "here is NJ" like they are completely different areas. this isnt like baltimore and philly.

Yankee Stadium, Citi field(mets), Metlife Stadium(home jets/giants is actually in NJ) , MSG(knicks and rangers), Barclays(nets) and the prudential center(Devils) are all within 10-15 minutes of eachother. alliances are less about geography and more about cirucmstances. There are probably more knick fans in new jersey then nets fans and there are a ton of nets fans in NY.

CT representing here.

Also keep in mind that the Knicks never really had a stranglehold on the NY market. They're arguably the most unsuccessful franchise in the NBA (taking into account length of time and success). Recently, the New Jersey Nets had been more successful over the last decade +.

It's easy for people from Brooklyn to hop on the bandwagon.
