Its kind of funny to watch the lead the at the bottom of ESPN and see in order:
Pistons fire Lawrence Frank/Cavs fire Byron Scott/Rutgers hires Eddie Jordan

I was incredibly hard on Opie when he was here...but I love his work ethic. If there is one of the two I would bet has learned from his experiences its him over Byron. Each has their issues as a coach...but I think more of his game knowledge. Byron however would take crap from no one. If they bought into him for as year or two he could change the culture. The thing is though...I dont know if we have the personalities on this team to buy into a guy like Byron. You cant pout working for him. You have to man up.

I'm ok with bringing Frank back as an assistant coach. I still think there's someone else out there better for the head coach position.

I think it's evident that people will tune out Frank if he's the head coach. For whatever reason, he doesn't really command respect from his players.

Like E, I was very hard on him, but from what I remember he studies the game and stats all day long.

I'd give him a shot at being an assistant coach who'd primarily focus on defense. I know he can (and would be able to) learn the defensive principles from a guy like Thibs and really teach us how to play team defense. We don't know how to play defense as a unit and that's really the key to success.

I'll take Lawrence Frank as assistant coach.

I know not everyone likes this, but I think it is possible maybe we get JVG and Frank as ast. coach...would love to see Phil take over basketball operations, I'm not so sure he will coach again...and have him work with the aforementioned...

That's an interesting combination. I saw JVG's comments sticking up for Frank. Maybe it is possible they link up and come to the Nets....?

JVG always sticks up for coaches because he believes problems with team performance usually lie with the players, not the coaches.

While that's not always true, I do think he's right about the Detroit situation.

To be honest, I'm really lukewarm on JVG as a HC. I don't know if its just the kind of players he had in NY/HOU, but his offensive systems in those teams were very much grind-it-out and ISO based, something that we all wish we'd do away with here.

I personally would like to get Frank here as an assistant here again. Liked him as a person, and quite frankly (heh) he was really "green" when he got the job here. I still think he's not quite ready to be a head man yet, but he could be a bonus as an assistant coach here.

A JVG/Frank pairing could be great if the players buy in. I think personality/belief/scheme wise, both guys are very similar. So as far as what the players will hear inside, there will be cohesion most of the time between him and JVG. The problem is...what if the players don't buy? Or what if both implement an ISO based offense?

JVG's track record in NY/Hou is ISO-based. When Frank became our HC, he moved away from our Princeton based offense despite having the best playmaking PG in the game, a SG who can score anywhere on the floor, and a C who can play in the high-post and moved towards an ISO-based offense.

I think best case scenario would be Phil comes back and becomes our HC, with someone like Frank or Shaw coming along with him "in training wheels". Eventually, Phil does more and more in the FO and whoever he brings in as assistant (Shaw, Frank, Elie, etc) would start getting more and more responsibility as a HC, eventually taking over for Phil when he completely moves to the FO.
