He is def not a defensive juggernot but with his length he blocks some shots and gets some steals. He is like one of those Jamal Crawford Oj Mayo Nick Young type guards. Those guys have value. He can be a guy who comes off the bench play 30 minutes and average 18 points. To start Evans over Blatche who is a free agent only caring about minutes and giving minutes to Stackhouse and Bogans over Brooks shows that last year the Nets had the worst coaching in the nba and the year before it was the Knicks with Mike whats D Antioni

I'd compare Brooks more to Young then Mayo and Crawford, because those two are quality players. Brooks is highly inefficient and has a pretty bad basketbal IQ. He is also a defensive liability when on the floor. He may come off the bench and score 18, but it will be on 14 shots. He is a pretty bad 3 point shooter, which also keeps him on the bench. He isn't somebody who can catch and shoot...he will catch, dribble for 8 seconds and then shoot allowing the defense to set up. That being said, I actually think he does have some talent, but he has a lot to work on. I'd much rather see him over Stackhouse no question. There are many MarShon haters on here, and I think they'd even rather see him over Stackhouse. He has length, but he is not athletic in the least bit. Hes very good at getting his own shot and getting to the rim, but he can't seem to finish. I still think there is potential there, and he can definitely score 10ppg off the bench in a smaller role.

Because he is a really bad NBA player. He isnt like crawford or those guys you mentioned. Mainly because those guys can shoot it from 3 and space the floor.

Brooks is a giant liability on BOTH ends. He is a ballstopper with a low bbiq who doesnt get to the FT line doesnt shoot it from 3 and does make good decisions and has likely reached his ceiling.

I'm willing to wager that another organization will get value out of Brooks. He isn't as bad as some Net fans makes him out to be, and rash judgements are being made about a player who wasn't remotely developed by the coaching staff.

Yeah, he needs to go to another organization where they can develop him and they can afford to tank and play through his mistakes while he's young.

I felt that people were expecting too much from him as a rookie and a 2nd year player who was jerked around by Avery and PJ for the entirety of his 2nd year.

I fully believe that other teams value him much more than this fanbase does. We can get something decent in return for him.

I'd still root for him if he went someplace else and I'd wish him the best. At the same time, I don't have to worry about his mistakes costing us valuable possessions, so it would be a win-win.

If he works on his defense and perimeter shot he can be a solid player off the bench. He never really got consistent enough minutes to get in the flow of the game so it was either flashes of a young fool or flashes of hm wow ok this kids got some talent attacking the basket.

But defensively he often has no clue where hes supposed to be on the floor but hopefully the coaching staff can work with him on that this season, i think he will have a solid season coming up.

He can't play without the ball and he's ineffective with it, why should he play? he belongs in dleague-china-turkey

He needed to go away last summer and work on his off the ball game which just didn't improve at all. We had and still have a glaring need for a spot up shooting wing player getting open looks off doubles on Williams but Brooks just is a poor shooter.

He is a rhythm shooter much like Johnson where he seems to need a dribble in between pulling up to shoot.

If we are signing Bogdanovic I'd use Brooks in a trade this summer either along with Hump or maybe to get a late 1st round pick in the draft off a team like OKC.

Im surprised nobody likes him. He has trade value. They should trade him for whoever drafts Jamal Franklyn. Guy averaged 9 boards and he is a 2.

does he have trade value? we couldnt find any team in the league to give us a first rounder for him last offseason when we needed one to add to a dwight howard package. at the deadline, there was 0 interest in him, and we were unable to make any move.

he really doesnt have any value. like him or hate him, the facts are there. while he is just a 2 year player, he isnt young. he isnt a 21 year old kid. he is 25. he doesnt have elite athleticism. he doesnt have a great shot. he doesnt have great NBA size. he doesnt compete at a high level on defense.

If there is one thing there is an abundance of in the NBA, and every year in the draft, its scorers at the 2 with limited shooting and defensive ability. brooks isnt special, and thats why his value is low. teams arent lining up for a 25 year old, without an elite skill or tangible, whose ceiling isnt all that high.

The kind of work he needs to put in to be a quality rserve in this league isnt something that happens overnight. he is going to need to become a 35% 3 point shooter. he is going to need to add some size. he is gioing to need to raise his bbiq and play without the ball and without overdribbling. these things take several seasons for most guys. and from what we have seen, he just wants to be more efficienct at what he currently does, not reinvent himself to be a great reserve or solid starter.

maybe there is a fit for him somewhere, but it isnt here. i think his best bet would be to land with an awful team that has a great teacher. like if hubie brown where to take another job with a bottom feeder

Marshoon Brooks's offense is completely polished. He can't be stopped one on one. He has a 7'1 wingspan and is fast so he clearly has defensive potential. Somebody just needs to teach him defense. Hopfully Kidd will get threw to him because he has so much potential. Could easily be a 20 5 5 guy.

Marshoon Brooks's offense is completely polished.

"completely polished" offensive players dont shoot 27% from 3 point range. They don't have an 1-to-1 assit to turnover ratio. They dont have a TS% of 50.9.

Brooks doesnt shoot it from 3, turns it over way to often given his usage, doesn't get to the FT line - especially for a guy who does most of his work in isolation, doesn't finish paricularly well and is awful in catch and shoot situations.

Actually, he can, and has, on a pretty regular basis. He gets to the line on 12.1% in isolation, and has a FG% of just 42.2% in isolation. He shot just 44% at the rim. I'd hardly say that is someone who isnt getting stopped one on one.

usane bolt is fast. doesnt mean he can gaurd dwayne wade or carmello anthony. it takes a ton more the measurables to be successful in the NBA on defense. also, i wouldnt call a guy who is going to turn 25 soon who has regressed someone with "defensive potential". Brooks has a really low BBIQ, its really his biggest flaw. defensively he makes a ton of bad decisions, and not even the gamble for a steal type, just a bad decisions. he also gets outmuscled regularly by larger players and struggles badly to get around screens... but hey, at least here you are acknowledging he is a bad defender.

Stop it. This is worse then you saying Blache is an All-star Top 5 power forward and losing him takes us from being a top 5 favorite to win the title to the 15th best team who is fighting to stay out of the lottery.

its unlikely brooks reaches ANY of 20, 5, or 5 let alone all 3. for him to reach thsoe numbers, his usage would have to be off the charts, and he would actually be killing you cause he'd have to take about 20-22 shots to get those points, would turn it over 5 or 6 times to go along with those assists and his ball stopping would bring your offense to a complete halt.

Again, Brooks doesnt have a ton of potential. He isnt that young, he is like 25. he isnt a great shooter. he isnt super athletic. he doesnt really have any great skill you can look at and say "well he does alot of thigns wrong but man can he knock down 3's or man can he block shots or man can he finish in traffic".

The bottom line is Brooks is a one way players whose ceiling is relatively low. Offensively, he really struggles without the ball in his hands, and with the ball he really overdribbles. when he scores, he doesnt do so with great efficiency, as even when his shots are going in he isnt hitting 3's and isnt going to the line.

Even when brooks isnt getting beat defensively, he really isnt helping you a ton. And he really isnt looking to change his game, he basically just wants to emulate kobe.

Brooks really would need a perfect fit to be a positive impact player. He'd to be like a second unit player on the bulls playing with 4 guys who do nothing but defend and crash the boards and dont have anyone else who can handle the ball giving him free rain to shot jack for 6 minutes clips. even then you are just getting a 8ppg 7th man who gives you enough scoring not to completely blow leads.
