Bojan Bogdanovic Signs With Nets (Or Not Yet)

Post#1 » by Da_Kidd » Fri Jul 5, 2013 8:10 am

Peter Vecsey [HEAVY CHECK MARK] @PeterVecsey1

Nets now focused on signing Bogandovic. Contrary to reports(wishful thinking?) BK never targeted Marco or Barnes

With Korver signing in Atlanta, it seems like we're intent on bringing this guy over. I haven't followed the guy ever since we drafted him but can anyone shed light on how he is both offensively and defensively?

Personally, I'm very leery about signing another guy who needs a year or two to get acclimated to the NBA. We already have that in Mirza and Toko. And for a team who has a window of two years to win, I just can't see us sacrificing winning games to accommodate the development of all 3 foreign players.

Does anyone here follow Fenerbahce? Is all the hype on Bojan for real?

With who is left available, I no longer have any problems using the mmle on Bojan. He's worth the risk at this point.

1) You know this is going to be merged with the Offseason thread, right? Mods have been pretty clear that until we officially sign/bring over whichever player we talk about, all discussion of these players go into the Offseason thread.

2) North Ireland Nets has the best knowledge of Euro players. He watches them a lot and does a lot of solid research on them. If there's any one who's watched Fenerbahce, it's probably him.

What exactly is the reasoning behind merging everything into a megathread? We actually seem to generate more discussion when we have individual threads. I know that this policy has discouraged me from posting more in the past.

Idk lol.

I don't mind individual threads but there are times when people will create multiple threads about the topics that are very similar and therefore the topics will be merged.

You should PM one of the mods (JerseyJac or RichRane) and ask them.

Did not know about this. Obviously I've been gone for too long. Feel free to merge it to the offseason thread.

From what we've read...

Bojan is a leading scorer in Europe, a good shooter(including 3pt range) but lacks athleticism and defensive abilities even at the "euro level"

double edge sword IMO... take the good with the bad.

Bojan does not lack athleticism and could be good (not very good or great) defensive player.

I'd like to keep new threads this offseason on Nets moves to confirmed moves. Everything else can stay in the offseason thread until then.

If anything, I'll open this one back up if they sign him.

Thread unlocked!

Nets reach agreement to sign Bojan Bogdanovic

By Adrian Wojnarowski | Yahoo! Sports – 28 minutes ago
The Brooklyn Nets have reached agreement to sign 2011 draft pick Bojan Bogdanovic to a three-year contract, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
The contract will have a player option in the third season, sources said.
Bogdanovic, 24, was the 31st overall pick in the 2011 draft. The Nets acquired his rights in a draft-night trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Bogdanovic played in Turkey the past two seasons. A Croatian small forward, he will likely be the back up to Paul Pierce with the Nets.

I'm kinda wondering who's paying the last million of his buyout since the Nets can only chip in with 575k $ of the reported 1.5 million .

i believe the nets can pay more then 575K... i think 575K is the most they can pay without it counting against their cap figure. i believe anything beyond that would go towards their cap and they would pay tax on.

not sure exactly

Bojan vs Korver:

Korver - 30 mins: 10.9ppg, 3.9 rebs, 1.9 asts, 46.1% FG, 45.7% 3PT, 85% FT (1.1 attempts), 63.7% TS.

Bojan - 28 mins: 15.9ppg, 2.1 rebs, 1.2 asts, 48% FG, 40.5% 3PT, 53% 2PT, 83.5% FT (4 attempts), 61.7% TS.

Both different leagues with different styles and defenses obviously but we aren't going to lose much but NBA experience between both. This is a very good move. Only thing is, his defense is worse than Korver but I'd imagine he should know he has to improve it or else.

This move is just ok. No doubt Bogs has the potential to be a good NBA player, even in his rookie season, but his D will take longer than two years to come together. Still play him a lot, up his trade value, and then swing him at the deadline to get the experienced wing player that we need.

I like the fact that he is a good ball handler and can create his own shot or get to the line.

I don't get the point of comparing the two.

One has excelled as a sharpshooter in the world's best league for many years.

The other is a very good player overseas but has yet to play a single minute in the NBA.

Let's not act like Bogs is Korver, especially considering how different the NBA style is from the European style, as well as the fact that the International 3pt line is a foot closer than the NBA 3pt line. That makes a TON of difference.

There really is no comparison yet. We have no idea what Bogs will be like when he gets here and even after playing a year or two over here. Let him get a season under his belt before we anoint him the next Korver.

Who's anointing him the next Korver? Point is, his ceiling off the bench can be that of what we needed out of Korver.

I follw him trogh whole carer. He is much more complete ofensive scorer then last sucsesfull Croatian guard in NBA, Giricek. however he has biger questionmarks.

questionmarks are...defense, position, ability to create, finishing with right hand, mental toughnes

defenetly translates...shooting, low post game against shorter defenders, stright lane drives

I'd be fine with Bojan if his offensive game translates. As a backup, we really just need him to be competent enough to enable us to control Pierce's minutes. We don't need him to create offense, we'll likely have JJ or Pierce on the court most of the game and they can both handle the ball. If Bojan can hit open shots and finish inside he will be fine.

I still preferred Corey Brewer, but I'm cautiously optimistic with BoBo.

I'd like to see what kind of contract Brewer gets before my statement holds any weight though. Nets didn't even give him a look though, seems like more in the long line of King shenanigans.
