Barclays To Share 2015 All-Star Weekend with MSG

The 2015 NBA All-Star Game almost certainly will be played in New York. The key stumbling block will be which state-of-the-art arena — the Nets’ new Barclays Center or the Knicks’ refurbished Madison Square Garden — will host the game.

It’s likely the solution will feature one building playing host to the Saturday night festivities, including the 3-point and Slam Dunk contests, while the other will host the game Sunday night.

“There is progress in that the teams are working together ... recognizing that it’s in both of their interests to create a basketball festival-type atmosphere around All-Star in New York, and so things are going well,” NBA deputy commissioner Adam Silver said this week.

Silver said the NBA still has to figure out where to hold its Jam Session. The venue best suited for it, the Javits Center, is already booked.

“We’ll work around it because we want to find a way for the most people possible to touch our All-Star Weekend, recognizing there is a capped limit on the number of people who can be in the arena,” Silver said. “We’re looking to work our way to build other events and to find a different way, a unique way to build Jam Session in New York.”

I find it hard to imagine they will have Jam Session in lower Manhattan then having fans and players travel to Barclays for All-Star Saturday Night festivities.

^Doesn't it take like 10 minutes by subway to get to Barclays from MSG? Why would that be a problem?

I do think the NBA is being pretty pussy about this though. Pick one team's arena, piss off the other team, and get over it. Give All-Star weekend to the team that's not picked next year.

They should just hold it in NYC for the next two years. Heck, it's back in New Orleans again this year and we just re did Houston again last season..

If you take the 2/3 line from Penn Station or walk to the N line from MSG, it's going to take a good 20 minutes (if there's no train trouble).

Agreed.

If the Yankees and Mets can have their own ASG in separate years, why can't the Knicks and Nets?

**UPDATE**

MSG will host the game itself, and the Barclays center will host the Dunk Contest, 3 point competition, etc.

But why can't they give it to one in 2015 and the other the next? It's not like NYC will stop being a major market in that time.
