Nets will be opening Training Camp at Duke University. NBA TV will be airing a Live 2 hour broadcast of Training Camp: Day 3 on Thursday at 11am.

Some quotes going into tomorrow at Training Camp

The Brooklyn Nets' team motto this season?

"Whatever it takes," new acquisition Jason Terry said Monday at the team's media day availability at Barclays Center.

D-Will:
"Personally, I just want to get better overall," Williams said. "The last couple years have not been my greatest, so I just want to get back to the way I'm playing and get my confidence back to the way it should to be."

"I just think that if you look at Game 7, we kind of were soft," Williams said of the team's identity. "That's the only way to put it. [But with the additions of Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett], I don't see that being a problem this year."

He said Nets trainer Tim Walsh wants him to take it slow, but he expects to be healthy by the start of the regular season Oct. 30 against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Reggie:
“It’s really gonna be tough for our starting unit in practice, to be honest with you,” Evans continued. “Because, like, our main thing is to go hard in practice so playing in the game will be a lot easier. So like I told Paul, I told Paul, ‘Ya’ll better be ready that first practice, because we can give it to y’all.’ But it’s all positive energy.”

Joe is ready to lay "Iso Joe" to rest:
“I’m looking forward to it,” Johnson said Monday of playing in first-year coach Jason Kidd’s offense, which is expected to be predicated more on ball movement and spacing than isolation sets.

“I think we’re all at a point in our careers where (wanting to be the No. 1 option) is all behind us and we’re all a lot older and later in our careers to the point where statistically guys will check their egos at the door,” he said.

Terry describes Jason Kidds defense as "Gumbo" a little bit of everything in it from his days with Dallas, Phx, and even a little bit from Coach Frank. I'm so excited to see what we look like!

Haven't even seen Garnett play 1 second in a Nets uniform and already love this guy.

"You cheat the drill, you cheat yourself."

Setting the right tone for this team.

Defense will be the key this season:
Brooklyn opened its first practice at 9:45 a.m. Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski spoke to the Nets, who are holding training camp in Durham this week. And soon after, Garnett began doing what he does best -- communicating and quarterbacking the defense on the court.

"(Garnett) has a huge impact, he has everyone talking (on the court)," Kidd said. "He's a guy that only knows one way, he's a professional. And you saw that this morning, from the time he touched the floor to the time he walked off."

Williams and Lopez said the team's defensive foundation had already begun to change from last season.

"We have to be able to limit teams to, (as) KG said, under 80 points," Williams said. "That is definitely tough to do but that is what you want to strive for."

Personally I think it's very telling that several media reporters and a person I talked to who is at the camp, have said that it's obvious how much more depth and detail that Frank is going into on the defensive end compared to past coaches and sessions anyone have watched with the Nets in the past.

Add in the KG "hard work" ethos on the defensive end and I believe we will have a very good defense this season.

Our height is going to cause real problems for teams on both ends of the floor this year. We got a hell of a lot of trees around the basket this year.

This team will be built on defense, or at least effort on it. People use the argument all the time on how Kidd's teams have traditionally been not top 10 offense. Well, the flip-side is that those teams are traditionally top 10 on defense.

A lot of people focus on the Lakers offense as the key to their success when they went to three straight finals between 08-10.

But the the Lakers height really killed a lot of offenses from attacking the basket and shooting close the basket.

In 07-08, Lakers opponents shot 39.4% between 3-9ft (which was tied for the 4th best defensive FG% for the range between 3-9ft; league average: 42.3 FG%)
In 08-09, Lakers opp. shot 39.4%. (2nd best def. FG% in that range; league average: 42.7 FG%).
In 09-10, Lakers opp. shot 40.8%. (5th best; league average: 44.1 FG%)

I'm not even worried about our offense, because it should be extremely potent. Our offense should be close to, if not on par with those LA teams.

We just need our defense to control the paint. I love the fact that KG has put goal of limiting teams to 80 points per game. That means that we should never let up on our defense throughout a game because even the scrub teams reach 80 points on a consistent basis.

the other thing i like about our defensive potential is how we can match up vs both big and small looks... and we have a great lineup to closeout games with dwill/anderson/Pierce or JJ/AK/KG

@NYDNInterNets: How difficult will it be to rest Garnett? A staff member had to physically impede him from running the last wind sprint today
