Would You Trade Lopez for Cousins?

Post#1 » by Trader_Joe » Fri Oct 25, 2013 1:42 pm

Simple straight up question.

Technically other pieces would have to be involved, but if they were not (or meaningless) would you do a straight up swap of the two if offered?

I ask, based upon this head scratcher of a trade:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1279341&p=37212599#p37212599

Lopez, Bogdanovic and Teletovic
for
Cousins and Landry

I was told 50% of Nets fans would.
Very curious the actual percentage.. I was thinking 20% at absolute best.

Drazenforthree will be voting yes, if he hasn't already.

Edit: Didn't even realize the original trade was proposed by him. That's embarrassing as a Nets fan.

As an all around player cousins has more potential. Put I'd rather take Lopez now.

Hell no.

He's been in the league for a few years now and nothing to show for it. All potential, no substance.

"years now"

he has been in the league 3 years and is 22 years old.

As far as the "nothing" to show for it

14/8/2.5/1 - 14.6 PER as a rookie
18/11/2/1 - 21.7 PER in his 2nd year
17/10/3/1 - 20.3 PER last year

Thats as good as lopez in his first 3 seasons, arguably better in some of those depending on where you stand on on def/reb vs. fg%

We were worse then the kings when we had lopez + horrible cast. hell we lost 70 games. lopez really didint take off until you put good veteran players around him like deron williams and joe johnson. You put cousins on a team like this and he would see an equal or greater improvement just like brook did. Hell look at Blatche as a good comparison of what a change of scenery to this orgainzation and with these vets can do for you.

Cousins efficiency would skyrocket here. i see no reason he wouldnt be top 5 in PER here making the same jump lopez did once playing with dwill. likewise put lopez back on a kings-like team and he'd go back to being what he was, struggling with those constant hard double teams, and getting bullied with no one to have his back

Plus, if you look at who we need to go through to win it all (Miami, Bulls) id much rather go to war with cousins against those teams. he isnt going to turtle and be timid vs. miami and he isnt going to be intimidated by a 1 legged noah

I guess we must be as bad as the homers on ND.
Where would I find a set of Nets fans where 50% would agree to this trade, like I was told I would?

BTW.. where is VC4P?
Haven't seen him in ages seemingly.

No, they would just get in his head and he'd either commit a flagrant or get T'd up and end up getting himself tossed out of the game, as well as spotting the other team points.

But let me guess, you'd rather have that than Lopez playing soft, because it shows fire and passion...

yes, they have gotten in his head last season to the tune of 0 technicals and 0 flagrants while posting:

24/15/5/2
29/9/4/1

I rather have Favors than Cousins.

Are Drazen and PetroNet the same person?

id take both over lopez, given our current team. all things equal id take lopez over favors though. favors would fit great with this team, you can slide KG back to the 5 and we get a super athlete and defender/rebounder in the lineup

Wasn't that second game a huge blowout loss for the Kings?

its his fault he is on an awful team? do you really expect any one player to beat miami all by themselves?

the point was made that cousins would have no impact/negative impact vs. miami. i was pointing out he has had some outstanding output against them last season. clearly his size is more effective against them then ours has recently.

No it's not as good or better than Lopez' first three years... are you kidding me? His rookie year was historically bad efficiency wise. He posted a below average PER despite having a Usage rate close to 30. He was a negative in offensive rating. He was 5th overall in turnovers. He was first in fouls given, he shot under 70% from the FT line.

Through out his first three years he has fouled more than any other player in the league. He averages more turnovers than most starting PG's. He's been a REALLY bad and Lazy defender. How he has a lower TS% than Rajon Rondo and Brandon jennings.

But fine, he rebounds the ball better than lopez, apparently thats all it takes for you to prefer Cousins. Why not propose a Lopez for Hickson or Okafor trade while you're at it?

We were worse then the kings when we had lopez + horrible cast. hell we lost 70 games. lopez really didint take off until you put good veteran players around him like deron williams and joe johnson. Cousins has played with talented/useful players who didn't fit in with each other (Thornton, Thomas, Evans, hickson, landry, thompson etc) but were average/above average at least. Lopez played with VC his first year and only counted on Devin harris the other two. Who else did he play with? Courtney Lee? Kris Humphries? Yeah ok...

In the 70 loss season: Lopez had a TS% of .570. Just to put that in perspective, Lopez' lowest TS% in his first three seasons is .549, Cousins career high in his first three seasons .524. So no, Lopez wouldn't "go back to being what he was" because he's never been inefficient. His "teammates" aren't the reason he's an efficient player... and the fact that that's your argument despite watching him for 5 years is really puzzling.
