Paul Pierce Out 2-4 Weeks

Post#1 » by Rich Rane » Mon Dec 2, 2013 4:44 pm

Brooklyn Nets forward Paul Pierce has been diagnosed with a non-displaced fracture of the third metacarpal of the right hand, Nets General Manager Billy King announced today. The injury occurred during the first half of the November 29 game at Houston. Pierce is expected to miss the next 2-4 weeks.

I hope that explains his shooting.

Of course it does. He'll be back and will be significantly better. He hasn't been himself.

Yep, a guy like Paul, one of the best shooters in the history of the game, doesn't forget how to do that all of a sudden.

good on several accounts

-possibly explains his poor shooting
-allows a high energy guy to start
-takes one less high usage guy out/remove some clutter from the starting lineup

it also would make a transition for pierce from the starting lineup to 6th man alot easier and more natural. hope ak is back soon and can start in his place. also dont mind anderson getting some burn with the starters.

Even with Pierce being crap lately, this is still bad news. Nets can't catch a break, dealing with way too many injuries at this part of the season. It's like the team is cursed.

There is still no timetable for AK's return so who knows when he'll be back.

perhaps it explains his shooting woes....

but it still doesn't cover his poor defense though....

Still, find this quite odd.... I believe he was visited by...a...russian... .

Really? We are 5-12. And Pierce has been awful, not played very well, and not had any chemistry with the other starters. It should be pretty obvious why people view him being out having some silver lining.

it is clear that his replacement, whoever it ends up being, can and likely will play with more energy, be more athletic, play better defense, and not require the ball at high volume to be successful, and also not make johnson and lopez and the other starters gun shy or worry about them getting their touches.

Pierce was really giving us nothing. not on offense, not on defense, and not with intangables or leadership. There are countless times in the past, in all sports, where a good player goes down for a struggling team and the guy behind him steps up and provides a a spark

hardly and idiotic thought

Playing poorly or not, there is nothing good about this. We could lose AA tomorrow and Kirilenko might not return for another few weeks.

It's one thing to joke about being better without him but to be serious? come on now.

Hopefully we get Deron back soon and hopefully Pierce is back after two weeks.

Alan Anderson and Teletovic will have to step up and I feel they will.

What's going on with AK?!? I read a little over a week back that he had an injection for his back a week prior to that and it takes 10-14 days from then. It's been 3 weeks no and no table, or anything. He said he was pain free at the point. What's going on? We are worse than the Knocks when it comes to this.

Also why didn't AK have the injection in the preseason when the spasms flared? Why didn't DWill have surgery in the offseason? Why hasn't Prokorhov bought out the PHX medical staff?

is it really that big of a stretch to think we will be better without him for the 2-4 weeks? I mean lets put things in perspective:

- we are 5-12, its hard to be worse
- Toko and Anderson are both high energy guys, and more athletic. thats something we are really missing from out starting unit
- We clearly were overpassing, and worried about stars getting shots. with 1 less mouth to feed that should be a bit better

what are we really losing? he wasnt hitting open 3's and he wasnt defending. can we really get worse in those regards?

i EXPECT we get better in his absence.

Paul Pierce Out 2-4 Weeks

Post#17 » by exculpatory » Mon Dec 2, 2013 7:58 pm

I have been posting for days & days in other threads that THERE HAD TO BE AN UNREVEALED/HIDDEN INJURY. Paul is STILL at age 36 one of the most elite SFs in the NBA. After the ASG last season, he put up literally All Pro numbers: 19 - 48.5% - 42.5% - TS % 61% - PER 23-24 - 6.2R - 5.6A. His numbers this season are a dismal 36.8% & 26.8% with TS% 50%. Without a significant underlying injury, it is INCONCEIVABLE that his shooting %s would drop a CATASTROPHIC ELEVEN TO SIXTEEN POINTS - simply because he is 6 months older. FREAKING IMPOSSIBLE.

And I guarantee you something else right now - which will gradually become public knowledge. This fracture in his right hand did NOT first occur last week VS Minny. It occurred on or about 11/18 - 7 games ago. During his first 8 games, Paul put up a very solid line in limited minutes on 9 FGA/game: 14 - 6 - 3 on 46% overall shooting & his PER was ~19. During the last 7 games, the drop-off in his shooting has been CATACLYSMIC.

I can understand the frustration of Nets fans. I empathize. I totally want you guys to win a freaking banner THIS SEASON with Paul a major contributor. But some of the disrespectful posts I have read are over the top & totally ridiculous.

Paul will return with a healthy hand & will produce excellent/efficient numbers - & some people will have to eat their words.

I hope that explains his shooting.

If he injured it on the 29th, how does it explain his shooting?

what disrespectful posts?

saying paul has played poorly, and that we have been awful as a team thus far are really just facts. to speculate that one of the high energy guys that would replace him could provide a spark over a 8-12 game span or resolve some of the issues we were having with pierce in the lineup is also FAR from disrespectful.

you have to remember, we are nets fans. we want all nets players to do well but we could really care less who contributes as long as we start winning. no one really has any kind of investment in pierce here.

to dismiss that we could, and likely should see a boost in the short term with him sidelined is kind of off base. the outrage over net fans not bowing at pierces greateness and excusing away non-elite play as if there is no chance the mighty pierce could possibly decline is tired

Well, its not like Paul Pierce wasn't garbage during the playoffs, and Iman made him his B. but i remember when Rondo got injured Pual Pierce was playing at elite level, is weird, lets not forget PP is a big time pot head.

Sometimes he goes through weird stretches during the season and i just wonder if hes kicking it.
