Who would you rather see traded?

Just a friendly poll. I wanted to get a read on everyone now in regards to Brooklyn's Backcourt.

It really appears that this highly touted backcourt tandem just isn't working out. Yet there's still glimpses of hope from each one of these guys, usually when the other is out with an injury or having a bad game. Both of these guys have had issues since they've been here, in addition to their massive contracts. They can be wildly inconsistent even though each is supposed to be a franchise player. It seems like they just can't play together and each might be better off with a new guard partner.

Putting Deron next to more of a pure shooter SG (Like when we had Morrow, or even Korver) he looked way better. He knew he had to create more shots for himself since Morrow never could and could really only spot up. And I'm sure having Johnson next to a "game managing" PG like Livingston would continue to highlight his strength of ball dominance.

If given the opportunity to trade one of them right now (for whatever), who would it be?

I would rather trade JJ. As much as Deron is a massive disappointment and probably deserves to go as well, remove JJ from this team and we instantly insert ourselves into the Kevin Love sweepstakes in 2015 and give ourselves more freedom to build a proper roster foundation going into 2016. I would do ANYTHING to see his contract removed from this team.

Joe Johnson obviously. Anyone who answers Deron needs to have their brain checked.

This is easily Joe. Deron despite his mediocre year is still moveable... the same can't be said about Joe who's owed more money the next 2 years AND is older than Deron.

I still think Deron can and will tun it around and start averaging closer to his career averages the rest of the way. Joe is on the downside of his career and will only get worse from here on out.

Kevin Love is signing with the Lakers. It's pretty much a forgone conclusion. The Knicks will have space too and can pair him with Melo.
Why would he come join an underachieving, and injury prone DWill and and Brook Lopez with all the question marks around him?

If you trade DWill the books are clean for the summer of 2016 where the big prize is to be had.

I'd imagine the Nets pitch to Kevin Love would be to pair him up with Durant in 2016. Love and Durant are friends. Love is definitely opting out in 2015 so he won't be a FA in the same year.

Also, it would take some major cap space maneuvering on the Nets' part to even make something like that possible.

i dont see how trading one or the other makes us more or less of a player for Love.

Deron is due 21M in 2015
Joe is due 24M in 2015

we are at 59M total cap that season. if we moved either one of them we could be players for love. if anything, moving deron helps us more cap wise since his contract runs longer

i'd move deron over joe and it isnt really close. Joe's contract runs shorter and it doesnt run into 2016. he is also the healthier player who is going to stay on the court and he isnt a player whose attitude will ever become a problem.

I think it also makes it much more possible for us to build a defensive minded team with deron gone, and PG is a much deeper position and it would be easier to find a replacement for him.

i also think we would get more in return for dwill

there is no way to sign both love AND durant if dwill is on the team. love and dwill would combine to make 40-42M with cap holds in there no way we would have enough to also give durant the max.

You're assuming that D-Will wouldn't agree to a smaller extension or already have a less lucrative deal hammered out so that he could sign at 12:01am, which would take away the massive cap hold and just leave the value of whatever his contract is.

how much small of an extension is williams going to take on his last big payday? is he going to opt out of a deal that would pay him 23M in order to take a 4 year deal that pays him less then twice that at say 11M per? i dont see it. i can see him opting out and signing for like 4 years 64M. but even then you have Dwill at 16M love at around 18M and a ton cap holds coming to about 44M. likely a tad more since i'd have to think you keep bogs or some value contract around. that isnt enough to also give durant the max.

it makes life a whole lot easier if you trade dwill. JJ expires a year earlier. you could give love the full max give the durant the full max and have no issues with it at all.

The only way i see that scenario working is if we trade JJ, sign love, and then do a sign and trade with dwill for durant.

Joe is older. Deron is not useless and JJ's contract/production is completely useless. Deron atleast can compliment Love and be his first scoring PG that he's ever played with even if it's just for 2 seasons. If it's strictly which bad contract would you rather move first, It's easily JJ.

1) it doesnt matter if JJ is useless or not because he wont be here in '16

2) it doesnt really matter if he is older, he is/has been more durable, i think the age/injuries kind of cancel each other out. Johnson is also more of a 2 way player

3) if we are strictly going on contract, it is EASILY dwill who you move first. 3 years @ 21.5M vs. 2 Years @23.5M

And why would Kevin Love want to sign here, especially if there's no one else on the roster who's even friends with or would want to play with?

This is why I've always said that if you really want Kevin Love (and in my opinion use him to attract Durant, you need to trade for Love using assets acquired from trading Lopez as well as the rights to Bogs and minor stuff.

It's not unreasonable to think that D Will would take opt out and take a paycut in 2016. Sure the last year is worth a lot of money and a lot to pass up on. But not only do players tend to seek long term security (especially if they're injury prone), they can also take a discount so other free agents can sign.

interesting landslide in favor of moving JJ....

I would've said Dwill though... hmmm

we would have to sell him on the plan to bring in durant. i dont see him want to pair up with dwill and a bunch of filler. he isnt going to pin his hopes on a then 32 year old with an injury history who couldnt come close to competing with lopez.

i agree on the part were us trading for one of those guys is the best option. personally, id do whatever it takes to trade BOTH of dwill and lopez for expirings/picks and then trade those picks and lopez for love or durant

im not ruling out him opting out and signing an extension. im ruling out him taking what would have to be a 10+ million dollar pay cut in order to have enough to fit love and durant on this team with him.

he would need to sign for like 11-12 million. he is due 23M
