Voting rules for non-Nets board posters:
Spoiler:
If you are not a regular on the Nets board or you don't post here often you need to vote for 3 rounds in a row in order for your votes to count.

I welcome outsiders to vote, but we don't want outsiders intentionally screwing up our rankings. No hard feelings but this is the most effective method I can use to make sure non-regular posters aren't sabotaging our system.

LMA is averaging 24 and 12 with a 23 PER on a team with a record insanely better then that of the wolves and knicks. his numbers are similar to blakes. i dont think tis some injustice putting him over any of those guys. there are FAR worst picks on this list, like for instance geroge being #4.

Cousins 23/12 - 26 PER 56 TS

Dirk 21/6 - 24 PER 60 TS

i dont think thats some injustice either

George at #4 is pretty bad too.

But you're using team success to point out why LMA is better than Melo and Love...and then ignoring that when talking about Dirk and Cousins. Dirk's supporting cast isn't all that great this year. His 2nd best player is Monta Ellis. He's got them in the playoffs, and he's having a great season. Cousins is putting up big numbers on a bad team, like he's done his entire career.

PER is also biased towards volume scorers, so guys like LMA, who don't score efficiently, but shoot a lot anyway and score a lot of points, will have a good PER. Furthermore, he's got a great team around him. And Griffin, Love, and Melo all have a superior PER than LMA anyway.

How about Griffin carrying the Clippers and putting up even better numbers when CP3 was out? Minnesota outside of Kevin Love isn't good at all. Ditto with Melo on the Knicks. They're still putting up far better offensive production. LMA is a good defensive player...he's not so good that he surpasses far superior offensive players like Griffin, Love, and Melo.

thast fair, although id counter by saying LMA numbers are alot closer to love and melo then Dirks are to Cousins. I mean cousins is putting up 23/12 on 26 PER. This isnt a great year for dirk.

carmello and love have the same/more usage then LMA. they may not have as much help, but when your a top 10 players, especially in the east like carmello, your team cant be 12 games under .500 or whatever it is. if you said love or griffin were better then LMA id have no issue with that(and id agree). but its no injustice to say LMA is better then those guys right now either.

i dont see how you can say they are far superior offensively with similar output on the same volume. and i dont care what help you do/dont have. no top 10 player should be 19-32 in the east. thats a show that you arent doing much besides scoring. wolves are different, at least they are almost .500 in the west. and like i said id take love over LMA personally, but i can see giving LMA the nod without it being some crime. griffin as well.

I think that's a cop-out, or it's just Melo hate that all Nets fans seem to have. He's legit got a D-League roster around him. Chandler has fallen off, and he's missed a ton of games anyway. Outside of Chandler, what players can you honestly point to on the Knicks supporting cast and say "Yeah, that's a good player"?

You could put a prime Jordan out there in the current East, with 11 D-League players, and they would lose A LOT of games. Sometimes, good players are on bad teams. It happens.

BTW, I do want to say one thing about Melo: I've started to like him now. I used to hate on him like crazy, but he's an offensive force, and the thing I can say about him that I can't say about D-Will: he's at least trying. He goes out and gives 100% effort every night, even though his team blows. Could we really say that about Deron during the lockout-shortened season, when he was playing on a bad team? Or was he busy getting himself ejected so that he wouldn't have to play some nights, or blatantly dogging it other nights, or busy sulking and acting moody and calling out teammates and coaches...and when he wasn't doing that, constantly talking about how bad the team was?

Melo's a good leader, a likable guy, and he's a great player. He's just stuck on a bad team, and he's handling that with as much class as you could expect.

yea... im the same. Melo is a competitor and he wants to win. he has his own issues, he doesnt always play hard on D and sometimes goes into hero mode. but ill take that over what dwill does anyday. williams has no drive to win and never plays defense.

This is hard to do when we rank the players over such a long period of time. Their ranks should be different over the weeks IMO.

Why can't we each rank the players 1-10 or 1-20 once a week? Then at the end of the week calculate the average position of each player.

A guy who might have been ranked high early on should be lower after a month (Paul George), and likewise a guy who won't crack the top 10 might be playing like a top 5 player at a later point and make us all look like fools (Griffin).

I tried to defend Melo last year in the last top 25 players ranking because he was a beast for the most part.

But of course, there will always be Nets fans who don't want to see past the orange & blue and just look at him from a talent perspective.

Yeah, the guy has his flaws but if last year's Melo and this year's Melo actually had some good talent around him like PDX-level of talent (especially a good PG), his team would be a top-5 team in the West and undoubtedly a top-3 team in the East this season.

That's way too much work for the person who manages the ranking threads (even if it wasn't me) and you'd get even less participation than you do now.

While I do agree that it takes a long time to get it done, one of the things people shouldn't be doing is just picking the hottest player of the week and buying into the idea that he somehow magically has vaulted himself to being better than KD or LBJ.

Tons of players have good weeks but one should be able to see past that and take note at improvements that a player is making that actually endure for the long run, not just a increased FG% or a spike in blocked shots.

With that said, Griffin wins this round.

I'll hold off on the nominees since there is only one vote for Lillard and one for Dirk.

Ok, so Lillard is the newest nominee.
