ESPN has ranked owners, GMs & team executives, coaches, and the front office overall.
http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/10711 ... executivesKidd is ranked as the 18th in coaching.
Proky is ranked as the 8th best owner.
Billy King is ranked as the 28th "best" executive in the NBA.
We ought to applaud his efforts being ranked so high, because the higher your ranking the better you are as a GM, right?

If the survey were taken last summer King would have been ranked a lot hire. People didn't expect KG to deteriorate so quickly. But I don't think it is even KG. I think the problem is Kidd. Who are the 22 coachs that a worse than Kidd?
The Nets were considered a title contender going into Oct. Obvoiiusly King (not saying he is great, but he) is not the problem.
On second thought, I think you can blame the hiring of Kidd on King.

my immediate thoughts.... who the hell are the 2 worst GMs?
18 seems about right for kidd
8th seems low for proky

i dont think he would have been higher, and if he wasnt, not much higher. no one thinks king is a bad owner for the pierce/KG move.
people think king is a bad gm for the tons of horrific moves he made prior to that. which include arguably the worst trade in league history (lottery pick for a 3 month rental of gerald wallace on a team thats tanking) as well as a top 3 worst trade in team history (giving up 2 first rounders for the right to give atlanta 100% expiring money for joe johnson)
King is 99.9999% the problem.
He had the greatest group of assets in team history along with a move to brooklyn to work with. and he turned that into an old team with no top 15 player, no cap room, and no picks... oh and an underachieving 45 win team in the weak eastern conference.
even the 2nd worst GM in basketball would have done MUCH better. it is simply unfathomable the minimal return he got on such fantastic assets.

Dumars and Hammond being worse than King? I guess, it's fair. Prokhorov is too low at #8 though, cmon now. He should be top 3-5 at least. No owner in the league is as willing to spend as him, and that's the biggest factor in ownership.

How could Proky be anything but the best owner. He has put soo much money into this franchise with no results yet. It is a long term investment.

The fact that Prokhy has sunk millions into this franchise warrants his position.
Billy King is a god awful GM. I love the Thornton move and he should be lauded for the Plumlee pick and the Jorge pick up though,

The same could be said about Dolan with the Knicks. It's not only about being willing to spend the money (which I certainly appreciate, especially coming off the Ratner years), you also have to do it wisely, Prokhorov has trusted the wrong people and he's made some moves thinking more about getting the headlines rather than what's best for the team.

Prokorov has spend his money extremely wisely. in fact im not sure you could spend it much wiser. he invested at the perfect time, threw money into brooklyn. the new arena, the marketing, the global branding, the national branding.
the team went from 31st in merchandise sales (behind all 29 teams AND the sonics) to #2 in just 2 seasons in brooklyn. we have better attendance now then we did for NBA finals games in 00-01. forbes estimates the franchise to be worth 187 million dollars more then when prokorov purchased it.
id say he spend the money extremely wisely. it was billy king who didnt get the job done.

I was quite obviously referring to spending the money wisely on the on the floor product. The Nix also sell a lot of merchandise and sell out their arena, does that make Dolan a good owner- let alone a top one in the league-?
By putting the blame on King you're helping me make my case. Who hired him & re-signed him? This is exactly what I meant when I said Prokhrov's trusted the wrong people. And it's not only King, Prokhorov was also in love with Avery at the beginning of his tenure (with reports saying the Russians believed AJ "walked on water"), giving that clown way too much power, which led to disasters like the god awful 2010 offseason, with the team wasting a big chunk of its available cap space on stiffs like Outlaw & Petro.

Yes, when you poor a league high into team payroll you are spending it well. he isnt the GM, he just writes the checks. Its billy kings fault our on floor product isnt better. without proky there is no way pierce, garnett, and kirilenko are here, and we would look a hell of alot worse. not many if any owners are going to go that far into the tax to maximize and underachieving situation. if you want to knock proky cause he hired king, i guess thats valud, but prokorov isnt the GM.
There was also alot of pressure to be a playoff team immediately in brooklyn. and i think this is overlooked. it also isnt prokorov's fault that dwight howard is an idiot. if dwight doesnt wave his ETO there is no johnson trade, no wallace trade, and no giving brook lopez the max.
Either way prokorov has spent extremely wisely. the team has made tons of money, their image has done a complete 180 nationally and globally, the team has made the players both years in brooklyn, we probably make it next year as well, and in 2016 we are set up to make a run at top 10 players.
i dont see how you can say prokorov hasnt done an elite job. especially when you consider the mess he took over

Add on top of all this, does Pierce even re-sign and if he does, for how many years?
Also, does KG comeback for his last season under contract or does he retire?

i think we are the only team giving pierce 15M next year. so its either take the money for a similar season next year, go to the clippers for less since we can sign and trade, or go back to boston and play a year and retire.
KG i think is done.
