Is there anyway we can get kyrie Irving? I would think something like kyrie and jack (bad contract) for brook, rights to bojan and mirza would work. Any chance we could land kyrie? Ps; grew up a nets fan and I would love to have him)

Interesting you mention this because http://fansided.com/2014/06/01/nba-rumo ... ook-lopez/

That is correct, Amico is reporting on the Cavs end that Lopez is very available and Cavs seem interested. This could interesting this Summer. With rumors surfacing that Kyrie won't sign a max with the Cavs and now this, it may be the start of a potential deal occurring down the line.

I don't care, I'll take my chances with Kyrie. Kyrie is only 22 with LOADS of potential to grow and polish his game.

Please be informative; Your answer just shows you do not know how to evaluate any potential scenario. The point of these threads is to engage in discussion. Theoretical trades will pop up; for the record, please read the link I posted and understand that the Cavs are supposedly interested in Lopez and they have plenty of assets. Maybe the Cavs do not want to go into full rebuild mode and want to do something with those assets. They have plenty of talent and Kyrie and Waiters isn't working. It's definitely possible they pull something off to field a more competitive and balanced team. For the right price and deal, Lopez is available.

Even if we are to believe reports that Lopez is available, and that Kyrie is too...there is no reason for the Cavs to trade him to the Nets right now, with Lopez being a huge question mark and Kyrie sure to fetch a higher price tag than Brook.

It will take some ridiculously careful planning bordering on collusion (ala our Dwight Howard plan) to bring Kyrie to Brooklyn.

It's possible but It would take Kyrie demanding a trade specifically here for it to happen. Outside of that, our package is very weak unless somebody gives us an extra pick or two for Brook. So, it's a very slim chance we get a shot at him until he becomes a UFA or something.

As of right now, it is unlikely. Can it change? Yes; The Nets can not afford to throw seasons' away waiting for a chance at a superstar player when it is far from a guarantee. Market is there but personnel is not. The fact he has another rising star in Westbrook and a solid player in Ibaka will make it that much more difficult to acquire him. Can we acquire other player personnel to intrigue him? Yes, first step would be to get someone like a Kyrie who is still young.

What's my point you ask? Build a TEAM.

"throw away seasons" what exactly would we be throwing away?

we are a 5-8 seed team and first or second round team if all goes well.

if we do whast necessariy to have cap space for durant we are a 5-8 seed team and a first or second round team.

nothing changes. NOT going after durant would be the only disasterous thing... as it means adding mroe non-star players on long term deals to this team.

if you want to add the eric gordons and boozers and ilyasovas to this team to watch us fizzle out and then watching durant, lebron, howard, etc go to toher teams while we have no cap space, be my guest

We have been in this position before(2010) and you saw how well that bode for the Nets. It was a disaster; Morrow, Farmer, Outlaw and Petro were used with that 35 million cap space we had. That's why although in two years we have a clear cap, you cannot be too excited nor have high expectations. You're right, why would we want to throw out money at players who might at best help us make it to the playoffs. With the possibility at a clean slate in 2016, you have to know how utilize that cap space to structure a winning team.

This position is nothing like 2010. in 2010 we had alot more then just cap room. we also had 2 solid young rookies(anderson, Lopez) a top 3 lottery pick, and 2 picks in the following draft.

in 2016, all we will have is plumlee, cap space, and a 30 year old anchor in dwill.

in 2010 we had a TON of options and other ways to go. right now, we have 2 options:

Option 1) dont add money, do anything to trade dwill and lopez, spend big in FA/Trades in '15 and '16

Option 2) Keep lopez, trade for non-allstars whose contracts run long, and remove any chance of signing a free agent in 2016.

option 1 = playoffs but no title until 2016, ton of caps space and shot at durant or other FA's

option 2 = playoffs but no title until 2016, 0 shot at durant or other FA's

anyone who takes option 2 is a moron. so i wouldnt put it past king to take option 2 :banghead:
