probably because the lakers prefer lin to dwill and didnt want to have dwills money on the cap in 15 and 16 when they can make a push for free agents

The Nets aren't shopping D-Will while trying to re-sign Pierce and keep KG. That simple.

The Lakers are also trying to remain financially flexible for 2016. They will be our biggest competition for KD.

Why in god's name would anyone trade for Deron Williams? He's arguably the worst contract in basketball and a bottom 4 starter at his position.

The Thunder will always be the favorite but specifically speaking on the other suitors that will offer pitches for KD, It's the Lakers and Wizards that will be our hardest competition.

If OKC keeps penny-pinching and doesn't add anyone of significance any time soon, and they don't end up winning a title in the next couple of years...I can easily see Durant bolting.

But definitely not to play here. He'd go to the Wizards, Raptors, or Lakers. Why would he want to play here with nobody instead of playing with Wall and Beal in Washington? Or Lowry and Derozan in Toronto? Or pretty much anyone in LA, since they would be free of Kobe's toxic contract by then?

So, he would definitely not come here to play with nobody but he would go to LA when they would have nobody either? I don't understand that logic.

LA is a better franchise with better management. And they actually have assets. And as of right now, they have NOBODY signed through 2017. We still have Deron's contract on the books through 2017. LA could potentially pair up Durant with 2 other star free agents. We'd be asking Durant to play with one star and a 33 year old Deron.

The Lakers are a much better free agent draw than we are.

And the Nets can easily use the stretch provision on Deron shedding 14 million off the cap and creating 59 million in cap room with only Plumlee and D-Will's cap hit left on the roster. The Lakers and Nets can both offer him a full max and a core of all-star pieces to surround him. Especially, Howard or Noah which we have the advantage to add.

I definitely agree that the Lakers obviously have a bigger pitch due to their franchise history but we have our own little advantages and I don't see how they have asset management. The Lakers will convey their 2015 draft picks to Phoenix and 2017 1st round pick to Orlando. It may not mean much of anything but we are definitely a viable option in a hypothetical scenario.

And you forgot to mention that it's L.A.

Good weather and women.

what is so hard to understand. all things being equal LA is 99.9% the choice. its LA.

toronto on the other hand is a joke. and washington seems like a stretch too. id think the knicks would be a better landing spot, at least its NY with a chance to play in MSG and if he won their it would be bigger then if he won anywhere else

it would be more then plumlee and dwill's cap hit. it was also be bogdanovic, and likely karasev. and also whoever we use the mmle on next year. and whoever we take in the first round next year.

either way, if he comes here, it would be with maybe 1 other max guy. and much less flexibility to build around with dwill being on the books for 3 years after being stretched.

i think there is a shot durant comes here, but i think dwill would likely need to be moved first. otherwise i think LA and the Knicks would be better options for him

First off, the salary cap is expected to increase by 5 to 7 million but I'm doing this under the regular rules of a 3 million increase at 69 million.

D-Will's cap hit would be 7.3 million and Kerasev's cap hit is still 2.4 million. I won't add in Bogdanovic until he is officially on the books. Now, If Durant were to take a max at 18-20 million, there is still 36 million in cap room remaining to add other significant pieces and again, depending on salary cap It could make get alot more interesting.

I never said that he would come here but to highlight every other team, some that can't even attract anybody but not include us into the mix as a strong option is totally ridiculous.

In order for us to be remotely considered the Nets will have to strike fast in free agency with impact signings before we even sit down with Durant.

You can't sell a guy on an empty roster. This is why I doubt we get him.

We will need to acquire another player beforehand.

what about plumlee?

and even if we dont get bogs, we are certainly still spending the mmle this and next year, so you need to account for them

you also need to account for our first round pick next season
