Love the job Hollins has done with this team so far. All his talk early is proving not to be just lip service. And he is really making all the moves id be hoping he would make and create an atmosphere of accountability and treats all 15 guys the same.... so far in the early going:

1) Screamed at plumlee after we went on a 5-0 run where plumlee scored all 5 points because plumlee put up a bad shot after an offensive rebound. he doesnt care about the good if you making mistakes he is going to let you know.

2) Called out lopez after the wolves game. He had every excuse available to let brook off the hook "he's rusty" or "brook will be ok" or "you have to credit those guys". Nope, he basically just said pek took his lunch and whipped his backside. Lopez took notice as well, and according to reports was visibly upset. thats something brook needs if he is going to get better

3) He called a timout with a 17 point lead against the knicks because we started to play lackidasical. thats something you would have never seen under kidd, pj, or avery. it is something you see from the better coaches like pop and thibs. those guys never stop coaching and neither does hollins. he has a high standard of accountabiltiy that is there no matter the score.

4) Sat lopez vs the magic in the 4th when he was getting beat by vucevic. not everyone will sit their stars if they arent playing up to bar but hollins did it without a second thought and it may have been what won us the game.

Couldnt be happier with him so far.

He's done a very good job.... I see the difference in quality(I didn't see the Celtics or Wolves games though(interesting we lost those))....

I like it if he calls you out... that's needed to toughen our guys up and focus on playing ball...

but there might be a time during the season where he'll need to tone it a bit... at least hopefully our guys will understand and not overreact to his methods.

i actually think he needs to ramp it up and not tone it down. we lost the celtics game almost purely on effort.

if a player cant handle being held accountable and being called out then he needs to sit or find another team. we too long have catered to these players. if players play with the proper effort and focus there wont be an issue.

My observation is that while fans may appreciate comments like these, today's athletes will mutiny against these guys. He would be wise to pick his spots a bit better.

True but the Nets and guys like Plumlee and Lopez NEED the discipline that Hollins brings now, and when hes gone it will serve them well. Its a good hire regardless of how long Hollins can last.

That opening game was probably one of the saddest efforts i've seen watching the Nets play. That's even during the losing days in the 90's.

Just jumping in that I am SO in love with his coaching. Sitting Lopez in the 4th and making the tough choice to play small because people weren't stepping up.

I could Go on forever I just can't say how important that he's making everyone responsible for every single play. Doesn't matter if they got that sick 3, If you don't switch fast enough on D you're getting a mouthful.

We're already playing a LOT more aggressive and I'm enjoying it much more

Loved the hire, love what I've seen so far.

Hollins has been fantastic so far. He's backed up everything he said. Gone against some of what were known as his weaknesses in Memphis - slow pace, no 3s, young player development. Love what I've seen with him. Want to see how our guys respond to him by mid-season and end of season.

My favorite thing about Hollins has always been if you show improvement, he will play you. He doesn't put you in the doghouse if you still are playing your hardest. Gotta respect that. Man is a good coach. And the Nets have better offensive players than Memphis does (for the most part), so at least he's flexible.

i think it depends on the situation and the coach. if you are a respected coach like thibs or pop who has a philosiphy of team d and toughness you can get away with a bit more.

it also depends on the players. really WTF cares if lopez or dwill get mad? those guys are out the door first chance we can get rid of them anyway. you think if lopez makes a stink king is gonna ditch hollins and hand lopez a big extension? nope.

also depends on the track record. we have a team whose biggest issues have been heart, toughness, accountability and players with poor reputations as far as work ethic.

Yeah but that's the thing. There are no coaches like Popovich. There's Popovich and then there's everyone else. And that was my point. That the days of that style of coaching died years ago. Popovich is the last of an era. 

And I'm not criticizing Hollins in anyway or saying that he's in trouble. What I'm saying is behind the scenes that gets old very quickly in this league. So I will repeat fans may love it but that can hurt your reputation and have a groundswell of players either pushing you out or an organization hearing they will not be able to attract other players because of their coach. 

Like it or not these players will protect their brand and not give you the back in the day I so appreciate the way you stayed on my ass mantra. They're going to talk to their agent, their PR team and text all the players that have played for a guy and it can end up hurting you. 

Look at other coaches who formerly have just said whatever they wanted. They are either sitting with a microphone in front of them, back coaching college, out of the league or they have magically become softer and kinder when speaking to the media about their players.

I am simply spelling out the reality of the league. He should pick his spots. Otherwise he will end up being that coach you are shocked got fired.

For now, as long as he's telling Brook all this before and after talking with the media along with getting on him during practices, I have no problem with this. Who knows, maybe the other guys will be of support to Brook to get tougher.

I hear all of what E says, and there is alot of truth in it. the way i look at it is like this... really... what is there to lose?

This is pretty much the last year with this core. KG is gone after this year. Brook and Joe are in walk years. This is really the year we need to maximize everyones talent and effort levels. worst case the players dont like hollins methods and tune him out. well if they dont take what he has to say to hear we arent going anywhere anyways.... and lopez in johnson and KG are all gone soon anyways.

upside is this team finally plays like they care. so far we have Joe Johnson demanding a higher standard and lopez at the very least feeling a bit ashamed of his play. 2 things that would have seemed absurd if i told you that last week

I like Hollins a lot so far. My only point of complaint would be that I'd like to see Karasev, Brown, and Jefferson get some burn. That was one thing that Kidd was good at, giving the back of the bench meaningful minutes to show what they can do. We could see for ourselves who had promise and who didn't.

karasev is scared, rather let ak47 try to work back into form and hopefully markel or cory plays if injuries,

hollins was great, i remember people calling for george karl or messina, someone who can push lopez and players to higher goals
