The Brooklyn Nets and Sacramento Kings are discussing a deal centered on former All-Star guard Deron Williams, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

The Nets have been shopping their high-priced star players, and the Kings have been probing the market for an impact point guard.

No deal is imminent, but the talks are ongoing, sources told Yahoo Sports.

The talks have centered on sending the Nets point guard Darren Collison and forwards Derrick Williams and Jason Thompson as part of a multi-player package for Williams, league sources said.

Sacramento has significant interest with Williams, but a hurdle to a possible deal is the Kings’ desire to have center Mason Plumlee included into the package, league sources said. Brooklyn has considered Plumlee a significant part of its future core.

The Kings have been thrilled with Collison, who has emerged as a strong leader and a popular teammate this season. There remains a reluctance for Sacramento to move him in a deal, sources said, but the Nets would need a point guard to replace Williams.

The combination of Williams' massive salary and declining health and production leave the Nets with little leverage to take back much more than spare parts for the one-time All-Star guard. Brooklyn is 10-15 and sitting ninth in the Eastern Conference.

Kings interim coach Tyrone Corbin and Williams have a solid relationship dating back to their several years together with the Utah Jazz. After consecutive seasons of ankle injuries limiting his effectiveness, Williams, 30, has played better this season – if not nearly back to his past All-Star level.

With the fragile nature of center Brook Lopez's chronic foot problems – as well as the organization's shopping of Lopez to teams in recent weeks – Plumlee becomes a more difficult young talent for the Nets to include into a trade. Essentially, the Kings would be looking for insurance that promises them productivity on the floor, if Williams becomes sidelined with injuries again.

The Nets' partnership with Williams has become increasingly fractured over the past two years, and the idea of a breakup has appeal for both sides, sources tell Yahoo.

Williams has two full years and $43 million-plus left on his contract through the end of the 2017 season. The Nets are motivated to shed salary and try to again reboot the franchise. Williams is averaging a career-low 15.6 points and 6.8 assists per game.

I get the hesitancy to include Mason, but if you can get Collison and Thompsan for Williams, that's awesome.

In a selfish Celtic way, I hope it doesn't happen.

Thank God!! I called this **** two days ago that the Kings would trade for him. Cap space in 2016 is the best thing that can happen to this franchise

Bingo. Give me a pick or McLemore if you want Plumlee.

I'm OK with the trade as long as Plumlee is not included.

But knowing BK, he might even throw a 1st round pick as a Christmas gift to Sactown...

I would send Teletovic they need a stretch 4.

Dwill. Teletovic, Brown goes to Sac.

We get back Collison, Thompson, Derrick Williams, Mclemore.

Collison
Mclemore
JJ
Kg
Plumlee

Collison/Jack/Morris
Mclemore/Karasev/Bojan
JJ/Anderson
Kg/Williams/Thompson/Jefferson/Davies
Plumlee/Lopez/Jordan

Still enough players to spin another deal using Lopez or JJ. Also improves cap and gets the team younger and more athletic. Getting Mclemore would kill any need to get Lance.

Pretty sure McLemore is a dealbreaker for Sacramento.

The best trade for both parties is Deron/Mirza for Landry, Williams, Thompson, Collison.

Good trade without Plumlee for sure. Williams is garbage and needs to be off the team.

We could def still make the playoffs with Collison.

You do the trade if we have another trade set up to move JJ or Lopez. We would have a glut of pf's. If we cant get Mclemore then you do the JJ to NO trade for Gordon/Rivers/Salmons and a pick. Pray Gordon can give you something while he plays out his contract but he'd be coming off the bench.

Or see if Cha wants Lopez.

If there is anyway this team can remain the 8th seed and get a 1st rnd pick while shedding salary you do it ASAP. Keep Plumlee though.

Haha yes I remember that... your drunk post lol.

This is a NO BRAINER!

- Collison and Williams are producing very similar numbers right now... and he's on a MUCH better deal.
- Der. Williams expires at the end of the season
- Don't know much about Thompson

And then we can try to swing the deal with Charlotte later... wow, solid moves I would be very happy with

However I agree that if we move Plumlee, they either need to add a first round pick or Mclemore

I would trade Plumlee only if we got Mclemore back and then got Lance and Biyombo later using JJ.

IMO no way Kings do Collison, JT, and D will for Deron Williams without Plumlee coming back. If Nets won't include him I'd imagine this deal is dead. No way McLemore is moved, and Bulls own Kings 1st

Strange for everyone to be reporting this when the deal isn't "close at all".

C'mon Ranadive...there's only one other team that's been doing things as irrational as the Nets have done in recent memory.

Fire Mike Malone after the best start in several years...

Take on D-Will's contract...

As long as Plumlee isn't moved I'm cool with whatever else gets shipped out.

Get it done.
