8th seed/Playoff Picture Thread

Post#1 » by Prokorov » Mon Jan 19, 2015 4:16 pm

Figured its going to be a dogfight for that 8th seed the rest of the way so we should have some discussion on it. Currently we are at:

1 game up on: charlotte/Detroit
2 games up on: Detroit
3 games up on: Indiana

1.5 games behind: Miami

We have a 3 game trip up, with 2 winnable games vs sacramento and utah. taking 2 of 3 would be enormous for us.

It going to go down to the wire, but im quite confident that we are able to pick up the pace and secure a playoff spot. Probably climbing to 7th seed and I can see Miami dropping out in favor of Detroit.
Detroit and Charlotte have a lot of momentum right now, having found winning ways just recently. We need to clear this slump we are in and start clicking like the first Wizards game showed we are capable of.

i dont like our chances if we dont move lopez. We need to get some talent at SG and PF. especially since Joe has clearly worn down and not going to get much more rest if he doesnt get help.

8th seed/Playoff Picture Thread

Yeah at this point out playoff picture really rides on two things, Getting a real starting SG/SF to let Joe relax and then regain Joe Jesus form (which is all contingent on moving Lopez). The second, as painful as it is, is DWills health... With him out its just been pure death. I hate to admit it, but like it's been said, we only go as far as he'll take us.

Who can really tell... this team of ours has no automatic wins to their name going forward, their split personality is unpredicatable but their loser side is more frequent...

Won't know til we know the severity behind Dwill's injury

Got to move Lopez for Lance IMO for that explosive scorer that we are lacking. Trust that PLums, KG can pick up the pts inside...

Need to get so much more from Bojan and an improved consistent play from Karasev....

Right now, I think we miss the playoffs... hopefully I can change tunes come the all star break

I just dont see how we make the playoffs if....

1) Joe is forced to play 35-40 minutes. he isnt going to get better without help and opportunities to rest.

2) Bogs/Karasev have to start/play big roles

3) Mirza has a big role

there are other issues, but unless those 3 are addressed i dont like our chances. Dwill back helps. Brook being here isnt a complete disaster with hollins yanking him when he sucks.

we need to address our SG/SF/PF issues

I honestly think there's a very high chance that Detroit passes us and we fall out of the playoff picture. We're not very good, our schedule is brutal, and Detroit looks like a legitimately good team ever since they got rid of Josh Smith.

If we do not make a trade within the next two weeks you can forget about this stuff. Detroit is a better team than we are.

He isnt a star, but he is an excellent 2 way player. and 2 way players who dont need the ball to make an impact are great additons to teams hopeful to make the playoffs.

He is athletic, he can score. he can gaurd 3's and 4's. he moves well without the ball.

he isnt a go to scorer, he isnt a great mid range shooter. but he is an outstanding role player who is a positive on the floor for 30+ minutes. for a team desperate for a PF, he would be a great addition.

I truly believe Mirza will break out of his slump within next 2 weeks. Same with Bogs, he really came back more aggressive after being re-inserted into the lineup. Thats his game I have known for years ( he is notorious for his efficiency when he played in europe, his classic stat line was around 16-18 points on around 7-8 shots, getting to the line at will and shooting percentages of 50-40-90) . He can really help us, but he is learning the NBA game the hard way with Hollins playing hardball with him. But I admit, that he cant have much bigger role than bench player, this year.
That should fix 2 of our problems.
Main problem during our losing streak I belive has been D-Will, who has been out, and Jack and Morris just CAN NOT hold up the PG position and kill our floor spacing. Jack did have a huge game against wizards, but thats the best he can do: 1 game huge flash in 10 game span. I know you guys truly hate D-Will on this board, but we do need him, especially this year. Even at his worst, he is still better than Jack on most nights. And when Jack is here, he needs to be 25 minute sub off the bench ( or vice versa with D-Will, dont care).

We dont need to get rid of Brook, but when there is a right deal, I wouldnt mind dealing him. Just because of Mason, his bodylanguage and confidence has taken a huge leap forward and has made Brook kind of a luxury. If we could bag a deal like I proposed in the other thread ( giving up Brook and Jack, getting back Lance, Reggie Jackson and Perkins), I would be ok with it, helping our depth and SG position.

D-Will not being there is a big part of the problem but that still doesn't address the fact that Johnson is out of gas and we are getting nothing from the SG and reserve SF/PF spots.

We need a trade NOW.

In as much as I acknowledge the fact the our FO is holding on to potential trade due to the idea of not getting enough, It's a known fact that we have to do the trade NOW...

Why? If we wait longer and we continue to slump which would mean out of playoffs contention, then I think a trade at the deadline would not benefit us this season. We'll painfully watch Atlanta get a lottery pick while we again embrace mediocrity.

There should be a sense of urgency in these things, the home Wizards game was a trap game. Let's not make a fool of ourselves thinking that's how we'll be playing the rest of the way...

If we make it into the playoffs, we will surely be a first round exit. Our team hasn't proven anything and their most glaring issue is lack of consistency. There's no way they could win a series with how they're constructed now.
