Adam Silver is going to change the playoff format

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nba-ball- ... 35099.html

Basically, Silver wants:

The Six division winners get automatic bids.

Next 10 seeds determined by record.

So if playoffs started today under this format Atlanta, Golden State, Memphis, Portland, Cleveland, and Toronto would be seeds 1 thru 6, Houston, Clippers, Dallas, San Antonio, Washington, Chicago, Phoenix, Milwaukee, NO, and OKC would round out the field.

Atlanta vs. OKC in rd 1? Cavs vs. Bulls also? I think it's a great idea.

Regular season games would mean a lot more on both ends now because you can't skate by and take nights off(like we saw last year with our own Nets) because if everyone's record matters overall you're going to have to play your tail off to make it in.
I'm all for it. The teams that get shut out will be teams with inferior talent and poor management(like our team). It will be good for the overall product.

Thoughts?

I think he wants to do it next year I believe. Some owners will balk at it(teams that don't know how to build a roster properly...wink wink) and I don't think travel will be that big of a factor if you set the dates to where teams traveling a longer distance enough time to rest in between the trip and the 1st game. Just go to a 2-2-3 format so home court advantage really means something.

Plus, all of the best players in the league would be in the post season for the most part.

I like this idea a lot. Play everyone in your division 3 or 4 times, then everyone else in the league once or twice.

But I also think the season should be shortened too. Instead of 82 games from November-April, go with like 65 games and cut out a month and a half. Might cut down on the grind of the regular season and could mean less injuries and longer playing careers.

Also the playoffs need to be shortened too.

I don't see it happening until 2017 after the new CBA but I like it alot. It also makes it alot harder for all of these LeBron teams to cruise to the Finals.
