If he can stay away from injuries, can he be a 15-8 kind of PG?

Im sure that he'll never be that old allstar player again. But I'm not sure that he cant be good with a full season with a good coach and if he can awoid big injuries.

If Lopez can be the man (not good) and they can get another quality player, then I think DWill can be good as the point man and the teams third option.

Am I CRAZY that I still have a little fate in him?

He has a good coach, and he has had stretches of being healthy where he hasnt played well. neither is an excuse in my mind.

Dwill isnt good enough to be the 3rd option a good team. especially if that teams #1 option is lopez. Dwill-Lopez isnt going to get it done. not unless that third guys is an MVP like Lebron or Durant. Lopez needs to be a #2 or #3 as is. dwill could MAYBE be the 5th option/best player on a contender. certainly not top 3

Am I CRAZY that I still have a little fate in him?

yes. he is 30+, declining, and not a top 15 PG.

D-Will is a legit bottom 30 PG.

Give me a Darren Collison or Ricky Rubio over this dog any day of the week. If we had one of those two players we could have beaten Atlanta

Derron Williams?

I fully expect him to be as effective as when he was younger...say, like grammar school younger.

Seriously, don't have much hope for him. He's declined.

Yes about Rubio, but I'll have to say no about Collison.

The thing that give me fate are the fact that DWill never were a athletic Beast. He was a PG with a strong body and a high IQ.

These things cant be gone when you "only" are 30.

collison is much better and it would be crazy not to prefer him over williams

Williams isnt very good at this point. he was never a hard worker and now that he is older even more work is required. he plays with little passion. he will likely get (much) worse, not better.

Nope. hopefully he can average that for the first half of next season so we can trade him but he wont't average that by the end of the year, those days are long gone

Nope. He will average another subpar 14/5 on inconsistent efficiency with a couple big 20-25 performances per month and his usual turnover fest in a close game.

Regardless of who we draft...I don't care if it's Wright or Rozier. Deron no longer needs to start for this franchise.

Deron Williams himself doesn't even want to be DWill again.

I'm hopeful his quick demise pushes him far off the roster into obscurity.

I hope that he never plays in the NBA again, that's how much I hate this dude.

He needs to use some kind of a mental coach. If he could get the motivation back, I still think he could be a good starting PG.

its far beyond mental....

it physical, its an effort thing, its a charecter thing. he is simply no longer a good player by any measure and there is no fix.

According to Pierce, its a mental thing. He doesn't thrive in the spotlight. He collapses and chokes under pressure.

But then I dont understand his big game on the biggest stage in PO.

He really confuses me!

i dont see what is so confusing. he is a 30 year old point gaurd with poor condition, work ethic, lacks competitiveness, and can no longer rely on physical skill.

he got hot from 3, when that happens he will have some decent games. outside of that he is a below average starting point gaurd who is a lock to get worse not better

If his problems were only mental, I'd have some faith. But they're not.

He's dealing with all the issues in the book that an aging player can deal with.

Injury prone + can't play EFFECTIVELY through any sort of injury.

Jump shot form that requires a ton of lift - but he can't get that lift with any sort of consistency. If he shot like very natural shooters do (guys like CP3, KD) - he'd be much more effective. When CP3 is wide open, he barely jumps. When he's contested, he jumps just as high as he needs to. This is a huge reason he's taken a huge dive in 3pt percentage as he's aged.

Whether this is coaching or not, he refuses to use his strength consistently as a PG. Rarely posts up even though he can get deep position on any PG not named Westbrook.

No ability to finish through any type of traffic at all. This obviously has to do with lack of lift but I think my last point is the biggest issue.

Whether he has to take breaks due to injury or rest or because he's a vet and takes the summers off - it's obvious he doesn't practice as much as he should. His ball handling gets really loose and sloppy - this is true for most of the season. Unacceptable considering he used to be an elite ball handler. You can also see this in the fact that he has 0 touch around the rim.

He's still a solid NBA starter due to his BBIQ, his passing and unselfishness. He does good things. It's not a coincidence our offense has been much better with him on the floor the last two years. But until he can consistently hit jump shots, finish at the rim, and tighten his handles - he's not going to be "D-Will" or even close. He's going to be a game manager. Tough to swallow when the roster isn't full of talent.

We can get really complicated and analyze everything but bottom line is NO.

He's content where he is. He got paid and let go of the ropes IMO.

It really doesnt matter.

Unfortunately DWill is hurting this team financially. He is over paid for his production.

IMO all we can hope for is either another team takes Dwill's contract or we hope Dwill next year comes back healthier and somewhat contributes.

IMO with a young Back Up PG that can defend and run an offense Nets will be ok. We lost games early in the season because our Back up PG thought he was the Back up SG. Subtract JJ with young wing defenders, Nets will be better. Last year our perimeter defense was Terrible. Brown and AA were our only perimeter defenders.
