All i can come up with on that one is that orlando regretted the contract on harris and wanted to get out from under it. get a couple guys who expire they can evaluate for 30 games or so. to me the last thing the magic needed was a 1 for 2 type trade. already a cluttered roster with a bunch of guys who need minutes

for the pistons it makes some sense. jennings was a glorified backup and ersan isnt the 2 way player harris is or a guy who can create his own offense

was just going to post this...

not sure for Orlando, Jennings expires though so I guess that's a relief for them...

I heard Oladipo was also made available but I think that discussion is served in the other thread.

Ilyasova's contract is not gauranteed so he basically expires too, similar to our situaiton with jack.

What does this say of thads value? Harris a similar talent, younger, and on a similar deal.

all 3 players expire. so no salary ramifications.

turns out this is a 3 team deal...roberts to miami... heat send a pair of second rounders to memphis

ho-hum trade. not sure whats in it for memphis unless lee wanted out?

That says to me that they cut bait on Harris with Aaron Gordon becoming a star overnight, and to also clear space to retain Fournier.

Good move for both teams. Harris fits in nicely with Van Gundy's system. Drummond/Harris/Morris is a nasty frontcourt trio

I think the Harris trade is good for both teams if the Magic created a plan this year and just needed to do a salary dump. Detroit has a pretty strong core now if developed. And not sure if Memphis is rebuilding or retooling.

i get why the magic did it. I was more suprised they couldnt get anything in return besides a straight salary dump. i like motivation for orlando. that cap space is more valuable to them then harris is. still think they should have been able to extract an asset.

I think they could have as well, Harris isn't a bum ( I think his consistency is questionable). I think that also aside from cap space, they wanted to ride Aaron Gordon's newfound popularity ASAP to drive up sales.

gordon being the starter and moving harris to do it doesnt really have anything to do with getting equal value for harris though. it makes sense to trade harris for those reasons, but that doesnt mean you sell him for 50 cents on the dollar 2 days from the deadline though, right?

harris isnt great, but i mean:

14/7 16 PER 55 TS% and a very good defender at both the 3 and 4 spots and is just 23 years old

i mean i can see alot of teams having interest in him. i know several were interested when he was a free agent.

to me a straight salary dump seems like orlando got hosed a bit

I do hate this trade for that reason.

It's unlikely they're going to let Fournier walk now, even if someone max's him out.

I feel like Fournier was our most realistic shot to acquire a young potential star this offseason.

Then again, his max will still start around $22 million...

I agree, they clearly wasted an asset here because they should have at least gotten a young player/non-lottery first/multiple seconds besides expirings. I really thought Orlando's next step would be flipping a couple of assets for a true star, not giving up one for more or less nothing.

But Skiles has history with both Jennings and Ilyasova and that could've led to giving up more than necessary to acquire them. I'm not sure Skiles is the right coach for this team. They have so many great young players but Skiles seems like a guy who is clearly intent to make the playoffs asap and even willing to sacrifice player development.
We should keep an eye on Elfrid Payton because if he gets dealt tomorrow, Orlando will invest heavily in keeping Jennings.

Tobias Harris will be the new Rudy Gay. Previous team gets better without him.

Really bizarre trade, it feels like yesterday, where Harris was so much talked about and now he's basically dumped for cap relief. You'd think considering his age, that'd he'd net them draft picks as well at least.

Agreed. I'm not a Harris fan, think dumping him will actually help develop their other young guys.

Randy Foye for DJ Augustin + Steve Novak

Very good for Thunder. Foye is a great catch-and-shoot player (going back to his Villanova days) who can dribble when needed. He should thrive in OKC as he's more mobile than Novak and more lethal than Augustin.

OKC didn't need Augustin's dribbling considering they have Westbrook and Durant to take care of those duties.

That's a backup plan in case Durant doesn't want to come. His contract is easily moveable in the event that he decides to go to Washington.

Makes sense for Washington.
