Cool unis! Can't wait to see Markel + Juan Pablo + McCullough + (hopefully) Baron Davis in a lineup together!

Is it a requirement that every D-League team must have a tiresome, played out logo?

I don't mind the colors but the logo just instantly brings back Continental Airlines Arena late-90s advertising lol.

Hey its our old New Jersey colors!!!

seems fitting.

So I have a question, how do we retain guys? Do they count against our roster space?

We only have exclusive rights to our guys on assignment and anybody who's draft rights we had. If we cut somebody during training camp but they accept the DLeague deal, then they'll play for the LI Nets, but they can still sign 10 day deals with any NBA team if they please.

Then we need to hope the NBA expands roster sizes in case we find a guy that is another gem like KILL

Absolutely. Also, I would love to grab late second round draft picks if we see guys are about to go undrafted. Like last year with Cliff Alexander, we wouldn't have had to let him go if we bought the 60th pick again to get Alexander's draft rights.

I agree with the concept but the reality is that if you aren't good enough to be drafted, you're most likely not an NBA level player.

Stories of undated players making it in the NBA are feel good stories because they are uncommon. Cliff Alexander was a super raw atheltic tweener with low BBIQ. I never saw him becoming a good player unless he completely revolutionized his approach to the game. Even at that, he doesn't possess otherworldly athleticism that would make up for his lack of size.

Yeah that's a good point about players going undrafted because they aren't NBA players, and i overlooked that in my post. I was thinking more about their potential and forgot reality for a second, my bad. I'm just thinking of ways to develop a player and not have another team swoop in and sign him out of the DLeague. I'm trying to figure out how you can develop young talent in the DLeague and still control them. It would really sting to develop a player to play for another team because with the lack of draft picks, the dleague is how we have to get our young talent and hope for a late bloomer.

He was showing flashes of a mid-range jump shot. Especially during SL.

I definitely noticed that wasn't as mobile to truly keep up at the PF position but I find it hard to believe he would've been any worse than Bargnani or Thomas Robinson.

well either way this is why have a dleague team. to see if you can find a decent player among the pile of undrafted scrubs.

Exactly.

I think too much is made of guys who will never pan out. Markel was getting a lot of praise for 2-3 week period and a bunch of people (including Bobby Marks) talked about how he is playing himself into a new big contract. Then he went back to playing poorly and now no one is pressing the need to sign him.

This is exactly the case for 95% of the prospects that are out there. Fans get overly excited about their potential and forget that the overwhelming majority of D-League players don't even become solid NBA players.

The reason why Prok and VC4P (and myself to a certain extent) don't place too much hype or attention into it. Similar to a casino, if someone created a game in which for every dollar given, you only had a 5% or less chance of getting a $20 return, most people would say "I'd rather keep my money and not play than throw it away by playing it."

Technically, you're not throwing your money away. There is a chance that you can get a return but people estimate that the chance is too low for them to risk it because they're pretty sure they won't win. So for the D-League, when 95+% of the players there don't become anything, the question becomes "How much attention and hype does it actually deserve considering its low return value?"

Well idk about you guys but I just like prospect hugging. It's more fun in baseball though.

I have no problem with people "prospect hugging". The problem is people not recognizing that they're overly attached to players who ultimately won't be that good. A guy playing well for a few weeks and then goes back to poor play aren't the type of players you build around.

Like I've said many times before, superstars are "super" primarily because they are consistently fantastic. If they weren't consistent and couldn't be relied upon, they wouldn't be that great and couldn't be a #1 option on a true contender.

Honestly I love it, immediately evoked an ABA Dr. J vibe to me.

And at least in the MLB, their minor league teams purposely always have that dated cheesy look.

The more I look at it, yeah I see where you're coming from and it's definitely growing on me.

I'm just generally annoyed that the D-League teams have to have either retro or just terrible looking logos. I'm pretty sure Steve Ballmer saved some money and hired some D-League level logo creator who just uses MS Paint to create logos to make the Clippers logo. It was a win-win for Ballmer.

Nets hire 25 Year Old, Ronald Nored as head coach.

Statement from Sean Marks:

We are excited to welcome Ronald as head coach of the Long Island Nets," said Sean Marks. "Ronald is a bright young mind in our game whose experience under Brad Stevens as both a player and a coach, as well as his ability to connect with today’s players, have prepared him for this role. His commitment to player development, along with his enthusiasm and passion for the game, are aligned with the vision we have for both the Brooklyn and Long Island Nets."

Remember that rant that Steven A went on about lack of minority hires and tried to use the Nets as an example because they went right for Sean Marks?

I know its the d league, but the Nets going right out and grabbing a 25 year old african american coaching prospect and giving him an opportunity speaks volumes about how the Nets under Mikhail Prokhorov continue to be a progressive organization when it comes to hiring minorities. There will be nothing said about this by the blowhards, but this is one area where the Nets deserve credit despite the on court product

I assume though that he will have to work with whoever we hire as coach because ideally you want your d league club to run the same exact system as the NBA team for continuity purposes.
