to a 1 year deal.
not really sure how i feel on this one. on one hand scola is washed up. on the other hand is a skilled vet who i think can help aid development. i just dont see how he gets on the court though, maybe backup C minutes?

this is a great signing, a veteran and mentor and great character guy. yeah he is at end of his career and declining . he will get on court cause the guy can score, he is more efficient than mccullough, hamilton and prob booker on offense.

Didn't realize he'd added a 3pt shot to his repertoire (40% last year on 161 attempts). Good positional player, fundamentally sound. Less upside, but likely safer/better fit than Sullinger or TJones.
Hopefully he's able to see his role reduced over the course of the year as CM develops.

I really like this signing. He's no defensive stopper but he's a starting caliber PF still.

He should be more than enough to be a stretch big on offense. He is not going to help on defense or rebounding though.

You're being nice. Dude is a turnstile on defense.
I like the fact that he helps spread the floor. We need desperately need shooters from all positions. The second he stops scoring, he needs to be placed on the bench.

he could always shoot and is skilled. but the guy is kind of a corpse. i wouldnt expect much and cant see him playing PF at all. id getting think backup center and plenty of DNPs to stay healthy mixing time with hamilton. is...
dont see him cutting into booker or CMCs minutes. id view it as
PG: Lin (34), Grevis (14)
SG: RHJ(30), Grevis (10), Skil (8)
SF: Bogs (34), Skil (14)
PF: Booker (32), CMC (16)
C: Lopez (32), Scola(8), hamilton (8)

I think you've got a decent enough mix at PF now though. Booker plays above the rim and plays D, Scola is skilled, and neither of them will hold CMac back from taking as many minutes as he can handle. RHJ for that matter too, if we decide to play smaller sometimes.

Depending on the number of 1-year deals we hand out, it looks like we may try the cap space angle again next year but with a full season of showing players that Atkinson is a good coach and still makes players better.
Scola is going to be that stretch 4 (maybe 5 at times). I don't think he can be your center because he is in no way an anchor or good rebounder. He needs to be paired with a defensive big who can clean up his mistakes. I guess Booker will help a bit with that.
He can shoot the 3 which is good but we're going to have to watch his defense because he can quickly go from being a positive to a negative.

Good signing. He was good enough as a backup C for strong team last season. We still have cap room for one starter level guy or two strong back up role players. Nets would aim 25-35 wins.

Alright... now the real question is going to be answered.... what are we going to do with the wing position....

you think scola may start over booker? he still can score. nets have 5 bigs now, do you think they will add more?

I dont think he is a PF... let alone a starting one. he played like 20 mpg last year and was abysmal on defense, pretty solid on offense.
he cant move anymore. still very skilled though. i see a move to backup center. think a poor mans version of blatche when we had him

i dont see any chance he plays PF, let alone starts.
we didnt give booker 10 million and a promise to come off the bench

I think the starter at PF will depend on who starts at the 2/3. If RHJ is in the lineup at the 3 you may want more shooting (Scola) if it's Bogs you may want more defense (Booker or maybe even RHJ against a smaller team). Scola seems like a piece that fits here, but everything's now setup to hopefully land a starting caliber player at the 2 spot. Worst case scenario they need to get someone with some upside that they think they can develop, like Lamb.

his defense is even worse at the 4 then it is the 5. he is a crafty pest, he can handle backup centers in 10-15 minutes a night

Interesting choice. It will be interesting to see who they start. I think Scola may be better utilized with that 2nd unit. I wonder if Scola is part of plan B.

Booker is starting. only thing that will change that is injury.

Yeah, I don't like Scola..the guy is 36 years old and I don't know how much he still has in the tank.
On the positive note, he shot 40% from 3ball..65 of 161...that actually looks very good for a PF...I guess no DMO which I preferred.
With Scola ability to at least be a respectable threat from the 3point arc, I'd rather start him than Booker..as long as he's not an inferior defender.
Any idea on Scola defense?
