We can only hope for the westBROOK-LIN backcourt

Best Fit IMO would be Ibaka and Haywood

Lopez
Ibaka - McCullough
Haywood - Bogs
RHJ - LeVert
Lin - Whitehead

Oladipo, McCullum or Giannis would be great too, but even at the max they all probably get matched.

I doubt there would be a Nets fan on all of Earth who would be disappointed with that outcome, unfortunately there is very little chance of that happening. We will only get major free agents like Haywood and Ibaka if we show remarkable improvement from last year.

Utah can offer Haywood more and have a team 2/3 years ahead of us in terms of development. If Orlando flame out this season, Ibaka could be a possibility.

I also think Ibaka is the most likely. If Haywood leaves Utah I think he would go to Boston. I do think he will want to go to a bigger market because he doesn't get any national exposure.

Ok lets stop right here. we're not getting Russel Westbrook, Serge Ibaka, or Gordon Hayward especially when other teams who are better and can contend will also have extra cap room next summer. lets just immediately start pruning this list of A and B tier players before expectations get unrealistic like you guys were being last year at this time.

I will list the names that are more feasible:

Zaza Pachulia
Tiago Spitter

Danilo Gallinari
Amir Johnson
Taj Gibson
Patrick Patterson

Tyreke Evans
Rudy Gay

JJ Reddick

Now. If somehow Kenny works a miracle and this team is more competitive than it looks on paper, we can expand this list. But for now, these are the only feasible names.

Pick your poison.

be realistic. remember...no one wants to play for the Nets. No one will play for the Nets just because they're our favorite team.

Most of the league have overspent their money in this off-season assuming the cap would rise to $110m. They were wrong. There isn't enough wealth for B-Tier FAs to get the same money as the free agents of this summer from contenders or better teams and some contenders could lose their own FAs due to the cap being $102m.

Ibaka, Gallinari and the other lengthy vets will be commanding a max contract that "better" teams/organizations cannot afford right now.

Hence why Marks is preserving our cap space for next summer. It's FAR less competition and a better class of free agents that will be looking to get paid. The GMs who went nuts dishing out these inflated cap contracts will be left out of the big names barring a higher cap increase or barring any unforeseen trades for cap space.

Another example as to Marks' IQ as a GM: Teams could become sellers at the deadline to gain cap space to make a run at Griffin, Paul, etc. Assuming, the Clippers do not improve.

So we're in a position to absorb contracts via trade or outright sign them with less competition due to a miscalculation of the cap.

Unlike this year, I see a lot of Unrestricted Free agents, I been preaching to you guys its a great thing we didn't go crazy and overspend on guys because next year is much better players and the cap is only going up to 102 million not 110 million like it was reported before... A lot of teams already capped out and now they are stuck with the players they over paid because not many teams will have a lot of cap room next year.

PG: I doubt we can get steph or Westbrook, we should go hard after any of Teague/Holiday/Lowry.
SG: Mccollum will be matched so I wouldn't mind JJ Reddick without overspending
SF: Would love Hayward, but if we dont have a decent SF by then I will settle for Iggy or Gay, which is why I think we should of traded for Gay now so we can see what he got but oh well
PF: I'll take any of the power forwards
C: Rudy Gobert will be maxed out and if Brook is still here and healthy, we will be looking at backups not starters

My prediction:
Holiday/Lin/Whitehead
Reddick/Whitehead/Levert
RHJ/backup
Gallinari/CMC
Lopez/bakcup

Unfortunately, we are the Nets, doubt we get any of the superstars like Blake,Curry,Westbrook or even the B tier players like Hayward, Ibaka, Lowry. Millsap, Wade, Paul, Iggy would be great to have but I'm sure they want big bucks and I'm sure Marks won't overspend on a player over 30 and I doubt they think about us anyway. This is probably the best we can do in FA being a Nets fan :/ Hopefully we find some luck in our swap pick next year that will end up being the 28th pick in the draft.

I'd be happy with some combination of Gallo, Milsap, Hayward, Iggy and Reddick.

The restricted ones are even better, but hard to get.

Greek Freak, KCP, Dipo, Gobert, very nice.

so Marks' failures might be a blessing in disguise.

The differences between this year and next year are as follows:

1) There is a much deeper pool of higher end FAs.
2) Fewer teams will have crazy cap room after this year's FA spending spree.
3) We are currently in one of the best, if not the best position of any team to be able to free up space for 2 max contracts.
4) There's a deep enough pool of FAs where guys teaming up somewhere is potentially enticing to players.

While we'll attempt to talk to others, I'd expect the push to be at the forward positions. 2 of Hayward/Ibaka/Millsap is the likely goal from a culture perspective.

won't mean a thing if we are a bottom 2 team

this roster will need to overachieve in order for us to have a shot. cap space means ****

Hayward, CP3, Griffin, Westbrook, and to a lesser extent Ibaka interest me from that list of UFA.

For RFAs I like Adams, Giannis, KCP and CJ.

i'll bet anyone here that NONE of those names are in a Nets uni next season.

Less competition matters too though IMO. A lot of teams used up their space this summer... we will be one of the few teams with a LOT of cap space next summer. You can offer 2 star free agents a chance to pair up in NY plus add in Lopez or Lin to the mix.. I understand where you're coming from but I think we have a better chance next summer than this one to nab a really good player.

I can definitely see the Nets making a strong push for Hayward. He checks the high character and hard working boxes. He's also a baller lol.
