All Time Nets NBA team

Post#1 » by MrDollarBills » Fri Aug 26, 2016 2:24 pm

Talking about Derrick Coleman in another thread had me thinking, who is your All Time NBA Nets team? Keep it NBA, meaning NO Dr. J :-? 12 man roster.

C: Brook Lopez, Jayson Williams
PF: Derrick Coleman, Buck Williams, Kenyon Martin
SF: Vince Carter, Kendall Gill, Richard Jefferson
SG: Drazen Petrovic, Kerry Kittles
PG: Jason Kidd, Stephon Marbury

Honorable mention: Sam Cassel, Joe Johnson

For fun i dare someone to name the 12 worst players to ever wear this team's uniform  that in alone would make for a months worth of conversation

This thread can also be a good way to educate our newbie fans on our glorious history  welcome to HELL.

PG: Kidd, Michael ray richardson, Cassell (no way marbury was better while here), Marbury, Kenny anderson
SG: Petrovic, Super John Williamson, Kittles
SF: Vince, Chris Morris, Van Horn
PF: Buck Williams, DC, Kenyon Martin, Armon Gilliam
C: Jayson Williams, Brook, Giminski

RJ doesnt make the cut for me... he was here for a while and solid but never and all star and never more then a role player.

cant put DC ahead of buck... bucks my favorite net of all time and when you factoring in him having the intensity and hard work of like noah on steroids combined with DC being an alltime dog the impact was probably more buck then DC anyhow.

yeah I put DC there because i didn't become a Net fan until 1991 but i acknowledge buck.

I put Steph over Sam talent wise, but Sam was a much better leader (and person). I was going moreso by talent/skill than anything but you have a point.

Who are your 5 worst players you've ever see come through here?

I have to take RJ over Keith. RJ was never an all star but he's 4th in franchise history in scoring. I have to take him over Morris as well.

I forgot about THE HAMMER. That was my dude back in the day. I loved the old days when the Nets games were on Sportschannel being called by Ian Eagle and Bill Raftery, Raftery used to go nuts after a Gilliam hustle play.

Its kind of crazy looking at the franchise leaderboards to see how Brook is climbing up there. He's cruising towards becoming 3rd all time in rebounds on the team which is amazing considering how bad he's been on the glass

you would have loved buck... he was an intimidator... like that dude at the Y who is jacked and plays hard who no one wants to get close to. super unselfish... hustle points all over.

yeah steph was more talented. sam was a winner though... i hate that team got blown up but it led to kidd so i guess it worked out

5 worst.... sheesh, thats a tough one. but Yinka dare is surely on that list :)

whats the criteria? contract vs. output? straight low talent? worst guys to start?

Oh yeah I know I would have loved him here, I remember him on the blazers moreso than our team.

Steph was super talented but selfish as they come and a headcase. Sam was a pro and Kendall Gill from that team was also my guy. I loved that 97 team. Chris Gatling is one of the most underrated players in the league's history, that guy was a baller.

hm...i'm just thinking there is no criteria, just the scrubbiest dudes that you can recall. I mean its a lot of trash to sift through just to narrow down 5 guys

Are we asking who are the players who had the best careers playing with a Nets jersey 1-5? Or which players would make the most dominant team? Two very different questions, as building a team of Nets All-Stars wouldn't necessarily equate to a team that could go toe to toe against Cleveland or the Warriros

that nets team gave jordans bulls one of the toughest goes at it of any team during that era... 3-0 sweep doesnt tell the story. 2 overtime games that required jordan late take overs to seal it for the bulls and the 3rd game was close as well

Just your all time team. your criteria.

also, Vince Carter should have his number retired by this team. I'm sorry, he's one of the best players in the team's history. look at the numbers.

There are 4 Nets teams I loved, the DC/Petro/KA squad, the Kidd Finals squad, the Kidd/VC squad, and Calipari squad. Elizabeth, New Jersey's own Chris Gatling posted a 20 PER rating vs the Bulls in that 1st round off of the bench. There was no shame in getting beat by that Bulls team. They competed. Michael Jordan was playing above A tier basketball at that time. There was no way you can beat two A+ tier wings surrounded with shooters and defenders.

The younger Net fans should not look at the last 4 years in Brooklyn as anything respectable. In fact, all of the Brooklyn teams are embarrassing. Dogs.

Look at how Kendall Gill ran down the floor, and knowing that he faced certain doom, still jumped chest to chest with Michael Jordan off of a steal fast break. Most men would have stopped and let him get the dunk clean. Gill put his pride and ego aside and went for the block and got destroyed.

I respect that. The cowards we've had on this team in years past would not have the balls to do what Kendall Gill did. I respect someone who tries hard in the face of failure more than someone who cowers.

Surprised Darryl Dawkins hasn't got some kind of mention so far. I think that I'd put him ahead of Gminski.
