The 2016-17 Brooklyn Nets Regular Season thread (Pt.1)

Now that the cleanse of the previous regime has been completed, it's time to see whether Marks will fare any better.

With a new coaching staff, overhauled front office, and many new faces on the team, it's truly a new era of Nets management and basketball.

This is the thread for charting all of our hopes, fears, memes and gifs as traverse through the unknown waters of the Nets 2016-17 regular season. I hope we all make it to the other side (i.e. the 2017 offseason) in one piece.

Burning questions for the 16-17 Nets:

-Can Jeremy Lin be an average starting PG?
-Bojan: cash or trash?
-How good is Rondae's defense really?
-Who is Joe Harris?
-Will we see more Joel Embiid than Chris McCullough this season?
-Will Caris Levert become the first person to play in a bubble suit?
-Is that Anthony Bennett or a trash can?
-Will Brook Lopez finish the season in a Nets uniform?

Another burning question: Will Booker spread the floor by taking and making 3s?

With Bosh done in Miami, it looks like we can already name 1 team that'll likely finish with a worse record than the Nets - the Heat control their first round pick this year so they're definitely tanking the season

On a related note, I have 2 questions for everyone:

1) If Bosh continues to try to play the game, do you think the Nets would and/or should sign him?

2) Even though we don't have the assets, I've been pining for Nerlens Noel for a long time. He is the perfect complement to Brook Lopez and would basically be a younger Tyson Chandler but with him playing the 4 spot in name only alongside Brook.

Considering Philly's logjam at the big man rotation, do you think the Nets have any shot at even getting Philly on the phone for a potential deal. I think it's a pretty easy no, but hope springs eternal right lol?

Good point. I think the Heat will try to stay competitive with Dragic and Whiteside but if either get injured, it'll be a quick tank show. This being said, I think Dragic's numbers (and Winslow's) will go up considerably. I think we'll see a return of the All-Star Dragic from his Suns day rather than the sad person he's been on the Heat, deferring to Wade, Bosh, Whiteside, Deng, and Johnson.

1) I don't think Bosh is done playing basketball. Players who have performed at a high level, like he has, are usually determined to make a comeback, even in reduced roles. Shaun Livingston's sheer determination led him to come back from having his leg nearly amputated to become a role player. Even Baron Davis was in the D-League last season.

With that said, I'm not sure if we'll see Bosh return this season. Teams aren't going to trade assets for a player on a max contract if they're not sure Bosh can physically return to playing 30+ mins a night. With that in mind, I suspect Bosh sits out this season in accordance to the league's rules for medical retirement (which, if I'm not mistaken, stipulates that Bosh can still get paid his full contract if he sits out, and its won't count against Miami's cap), but returns to a team next year in a role off the bench in a capacity similar to KG in which he plays a part in mentoring a young big man. In that scenario, I think the Knicks would be the best possible destination - he can function off the bench as a backup to Noah, he can serve as a mentor to a young big man in Porzingis, and Bosh can make meaningful contributions to a playoff caliber roster.

2) There is no way Philadelphia is trading a Noel for a printer.

Lin + Lopez vs Dragic + Whiteside?

I see Bosh sitting out until February 9th so that Miami can waive him without his salary counting on their books.

If he is waived, I don't see him seeking to play on the Knicks of all teams. I can see Bosh being a mentor but he doesn't seem like a guy who wants to be in drama-filled situations.

If his medical situation was miraculously cleared up somehow, I see him either returning home to Dallas or going to a team that prioritizes maturity and high BBIQ a la San Antonio or any of the teams that have been largely influenced by the Spurs model such as Atlanta, Utah, and even Brooklyn.

I agree - don't know details but seems like Heat were concerned about a liability or PR problem if Bosh was hurt or worse while playing for them, this won't just be up to Bosh

Just as I kept telling folks. It's foolish to judge a prospect over their collegiate health. Now, Simmons joins the same list that LeVert has been on.
